sam is not my name ... neither is samandi, but that's besides the point :-) but seriously, it's only seven letters, not twenty

OP posts:
MardyBra · 11/07/2013 22:11

I get warm and fuzzy when I get a "Mards".

LuisSuarezTeeth · 11/07/2013 22:21

I am SO SORRY saman

Er, OP.

Hadn't realised just how important you are!

Sorreh! Grin

Blatherskite · 11/07/2013 22:22

MrsK! There you are! I've missed you.

I get called Blathers all the time. Blaths too. It's never occurred to me to be annoyed by it

HeffalumpTheFlump · 11/07/2013 22:25

People call me heffa, it makes me smile because I am currently the size of a house (26 weeks pg) so I think it's quite fitting!! Grin

DumSpiroSpero · 11/07/2013 22:26

I'm not wild about being abbreviated to 'Dum' (the MNetters that know me call me Spiro), but I can totally understand why people do shorten it to that.

Really not worth getting worked up about imho.

HildaOgden · 11/07/2013 22:27

I know I've never called you Sam anyway, because I've never noticed you before this thread.

I don't like my real name being shortened in real life, but I quite like it when I see a 'Hilda' namecheck. unless it's a nasty comment

MrsKwazii · 11/07/2013 22:38

Hello Blathers, lovely to "see" you Smile

ginhag · 12/07/2013 11:27

shlurp my friends' kids call me 'auntie gin' it's LOVELY.

BIWI · 12/07/2013 11:37

MrsK - I changed for two reasons. One, I couldn't be bothered to keep typing out BecauseImWorthIt all the time and two, there was an utterly twattish poster who used the posting name BecauseImPerfect, and I kept thinking "Surely I didn't post that? Was I pissed?", and I really, really, really didn't want people to think that I was him/her!

And BIWI was what people were using. I'd also started to think of myself as BIWI. [must get a life emoticon]

Much easier, and actually much more unique.

FeegleFion · 12/07/2013 11:41

YABU - and you bloody well know it Wink

I like being called Feegle, but don't even mind when I'm addressed as Feeble, or Freegal, etc.

Have a Kalms and chill OP. Smile

MeerkatMerkin · 12/07/2013 11:47

YABU.

I get called Meerkat. I would prefer Merkin.

I got therapy though, now things are looking up. I'm ok with Meerkat. Still get ruffled at being called Meercat though. That's NOT my name. Anyway, I found the therapist on Google. You should give him a call. I feel he could really help you.

Flibbertyjibbet · 12/07/2013 12:12

I am often called Flibberty.

Today I have been called Flib

Should I hold out for Bert?

Trills · 12/07/2013 12:14

When I was TrillianAstra I liked it when people shortened me to Trills - it felt friendly.

BIWI is "beewee" if you meet her in RL :o

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/07/2013 12:18

glad you dont mind mrs d - mrsdevere as thats what i call you on the returned :)

DameFanny · 12/07/2013 12:19

Wink
tinierclanger · 12/07/2013 12:23

On the rare occasion that anyone notices me, I'm usually addressed as tinier, but someone did call me Clanger once. It felt funny but nice, like having a proper nickname.

steppemum · 12/07/2013 12:23

well I get shortened to step, which makes me laugh, because it means something quite different Gin

but most people don't notice and don't care which is fine because it just amuses me

tinierclanger · 12/07/2013 12:24
steppemum · 12/07/2013 12:29

ha ha - that should be Grin but maybe Gin is more appropriate!

Fenton · 12/07/2013 12:30

A bit like Trills, I shortened mine to Fenton from OhChristFENTON as mostly people called me that anyway.

I only just recently 'got' MrsDeVere when I watched Little Britain for the first time.

I will never be able to see that name again without thinking of that character.

Grin
GibberTheMonkey · 12/07/2013 12:35

Calling me gibber makes sense.
The rest isn't actually my name.

I like gib though it makes me feel loved needy and --ignored

Having said all that, it's rare anyone says my name Sad

GibberTheMonkey · 12/07/2013 12:36

Maybe because I come across as crap at posting. I wonder why Grin

YippeeKiYayMakkaPakka · 12/07/2013 12:41

Presumably it's not the fact that people shorten her nn that the OP is bothered by, but the fact that her nn means "Sam and I", therefore Sam is someone else, not her? Like if your nn was "ZacsMummy" and people called you Zac, it'd feel a bit weird because Zac is your son's name, not yours.

You could change your name to MeandSam OP. Although then people would probably shorten it to Mean, which would possibly be worse Grin

BIWI · 12/07/2013 12:42

Oh yes, Trills. Anything else would just be wrong!

LtEveDallas · 12/07/2013 12:44

I get Eve, LtEve, Lt, LED and LtEveDallas. I don't mind any of them :)

I don't particularly like Dallas, as it's a surname and so it feels kinda rude - but the only people I've noticed doing it have been actively trying to be rude to me, so that's OK Smile Grin
