to want to be called "samandi" not "sam" in posts

sam is not my name ... neither is samandi, but that's besides the point :-) but seriously, it's only seven letters, not twenty

OP posts:
Tallalime · 11/07/2013 19:00

I get called Talla, I don't mind.

Mine is a vague approximation of my actual name anyway, it's what DD called me before she could pronounce my name (I mean she usually called me Mummy but she had her moments)

She also referred to my friends as 'Tallalime's Friend' instead of there names.

I have gone off on one, i'll shut up now

Well in a minute I will, to summarise, it's just how it's done here innit isn't it?

*Their, ffs

That was a bit of a fail wasn't it Confused

SauvignonBlanche · 11/07/2013 19:05

YABU, unless of course it is your real name, then I can see it would be annoying.

JassyRadlett · 11/07/2013 19:07

I get referred to as Jessy fairly often which doesn't bother me (a) because people are talking to me and (b) they've taken the trouble to address me by name, rather than just 'someone up thread'. Grin

aldiwhore · 11/07/2013 19:08

Is it safer just to call you op?

Or does that prove I wasn't paying attention to your username?

YANBU to have preferences. YABU to expect me to care too much.

I suspect that, unless you change your name, I will always refer to you as Samandi now, because, well, I've been told.

MammaTJ · 11/07/2013 19:13

I do usually just copy and paste if I want to use someones name. Now, that's not difficult is it? Grin

aldiwhore · 11/07/2013 19:15

Difficult? No. More faff than I want in my life? Possibly Wink

SalIAm · 11/07/2013 19:35

YABU and should probably consider a one syllable name if this will always upset you.

I like being called Sal and throughout various namechanges have always included it. Surely it's as if someone knows your name vs being called Mrs IAm?

Mind you, I agree that the least someone could do is use my full name if the rest of the sentence is "is an idiot". In a friendly conversation, you can call me whatever you fancy. [not easily offended]

decaffwithcream · 11/07/2013 19:36

I had to change from claudialyman when a poster kindly let me know that at first glance it looked like it would be shortened clamydia.

GobTheGoblin · 11/07/2013 19:48

How about Andi?

I would like to be called "Ma'am" for future reference. Thank you kindly.

VinegarDrinker · 11/07/2013 20:13

I've only been here a few months, but mostly get called vinegar - obviously. One poster did shorten it to VD which made me giggle in a childish way.

NorksAreMessy · 11/07/2013 20:17

I love it when people 'Norks' me.

I don't think anyone has ever called me the full palaver, and even at MN meetups, I introduce myself as Norks. The 'Aremessy' is sort of my MN surname, and not really needed. (stupid NN anyway, but I can't seem to let go of it. Sort of like a tattoo that you don't really like anymore but reminds you of a brilliant weekend when you were 19)

I am rambling....

mrsjay · 11/07/2013 20:20

I get called mrsJ sometimes I am thinking of dropping the Mrs now tis less formal Grin I cant call ANYFUCKER ANYFUCKER i call her AF I blush saying her full name

mrsjay · 11/07/2013 20:21

oh yes I use MRSDV all the time cos i can never remember how to spell it and too lazy to scroll

BrianButterfield · 11/07/2013 20:22

I like being called Brian.

Brian is a sensible name. Also it's funny when people assume I am a man.

TiggyD · 11/07/2013 20:26

I get called Twiggy by mistake a lot. It's a very big mistake as you would realise if you ever saw me. Which you won't.

My friends call me Tigs, so everybody should feel free to call me Tiggy. You can drop the 'D'.

When somebody has a long name I usually go up to the second capital, unless the first bit isn't very namey. TheSeveredHeadOfJenniferAnniston would be Severed for short.

MrsKwazii · 11/07/2013 20:27

I always think of you as Norks, Norks. In a very fond way

MrsKwazii · 11/07/2013 20:28

I am having multiple Grin fails tonight. Apologies.

Gunznroses · 11/07/2013 20:30

I like being called Gunz Smile

ShowOfHands · 11/07/2013 20:31

You can't possibly choose your own nickname. Nicknames develop through fondness.

Yours,

Showy.

That's SHOWY

Hassled · 11/07/2013 20:33

Someone once shortened my name to H. It felt like an abbreviation too far.
