sam is not my name ... neither is samandi, but that's besides the point :-) but seriously, it's only seven letters, not twenty

OP posts:
southeastastra · 11/07/2013 20:33

who are sam and di anyway op?

RiotsNotDiets · 11/07/2013 20:37

I think it's nice when people shorten your nn, it's familiar and friendly.

Pascha · 11/07/2013 20:40

Sorry, SOH? Did you say something? Chao calls me Paschy. Which isn't any shorter but it sounds nice and friendly.

DearPrudence · 11/07/2013 20:45

Agree with Showy. You can't choose your nickname. I love it when I get shortened.

This reminds me of Ross in Friends when he tries to be called 'The Rossatron'

catgirl1976 · 11/07/2013 20:46

Meh I get called cat all the time. I like it

And my real name is Sam so YABU as it is a fine name :)

TheMagicKeyCanFuckOff · 11/07/2013 20:52

I often get called Magic (which I like), but have her surprised by an angry sounding FuckOff - from perfectly nice and friendly posters, but it gives me a shock.

mrsjay · 11/07/2013 21:09

@ the real sam Grin

DameFanny · 11/07/2013 21:23

You may call me Fanny [gracious]

PeazlyPops · 11/07/2013 21:28

YABU to care, let alone post about it.

NorksAreMessy · 11/07/2013 21:39

mrsK (see, that's just friendly, cuz you iz me mate, innit) thanks for being fond of the Norks :o

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 11/07/2013 21:41

Someone called me 'knickers' once. Blush

ThisReallyIsNotSPNopeNotAtAll · 11/07/2013 21:42

I would like people to use my full nickname too please

Sure its no hassle

ginhag · 11/07/2013 21:45

I am gin (hear me roar)

I'm known as gin in RL by those I met thru MN. Am as used to it as my real name. Think 'ginhag' would stand out as a bit weird in RL.

(I'm going to a wedding this summer where my place thingy at the table will just read 'gin' Grin )

ginhag · 11/07/2013 21:46

SP Grin [also fuck off]

AnyFucker · 11/07/2013 21:48

SP...STFU Grin

Sparklingbrook · 11/07/2013 21:50

ThisReallyIsNotSPNopeNotAtAll too much trouble. Soz.

ThePowerof3 · 11/07/2013 21:51

I wouldn't care if anyone shortened my user name as its not my real name..

BigW · 11/07/2013 21:53

I don't care too much what people call me - irl or on here. As long as it's not mean!

My actual name is pretty short so people normally add syllables onto the end rather than shorten it. I don't mind - though there have been some weird ones over the years- bugs me a little when perfect strangers call me lovey or sweetheart or the like.

MikeLitoris · 11/07/2013 21:54

brian people assume I'm a man too.

I'm always shortened to Mike which I prefer to my actual nn but MN wont let me have it Angry

Shlurpbop · 11/07/2013 22:00

gin I love thought of you at the wedding being known as gin and non-mumsnetters thinking ' what an unusual name'!
Also love the stories where mumsnet world meets real life :)

TheWoollybacksWife · 11/07/2013 22:01

I love people calling me Woolly. As previous posters have said I get a warm and fuzzy feeling that my contribution has been acknowledged - despite it probably being the usual drivel that I spout.

It's a bit like someone in real life calling me by my first name. If I'm called MrsDHSurname I still look behind me for my MIL - despite being married for over twenty years Grin

NorksAreMessy · 11/07/2013 22:04

mike I remember when you changed your name (although have forgotten what you were before) I LAUGHED OUT LOUD (properly, not pretenderly)

Yours is my second favorite MN name EVER (sorry, but to come second after AtYourCervix, is still BRILLIANT I hope you agree)

MikeLitoris · 11/07/2013 22:06

Why thank you Norks Blush

I'm bored of this one but hate the thought of not being me anymore iyswim

AnyFucker · 11/07/2013 22:09

Yours is a great name, Mike Smile

MardyBra · 11/07/2013 22:10

For some reason people call me mardy.
