to think not having a toilet brush is weird?

I'm cleaning a house with no bog brushes. There are always streaks in the toilets. Confused

And several clients have those disposable head brush handles in stands next to the loo, but no heads for them. They just gather dust and get in my way and still nothing to scrub the bowl with!

I carry a designated washing up brush for these sorts of houses, and it requires much rinsing and bleaching before I wrap it backup up in its plastic bag. It's all very disgusting.

What's up with that??

We don't have a toilet brush. I think they are gross.

If anyone 'skids' in the toilet they have to wipe up their own with a piece of toilet paper. They don't leave it.

KatyTheCleaningLady · 04/07/2013 14:52

Well, I will say that I removed ours when we had toddlers. I put it somewhere well out of reach, and retrieved it when necessary.

None of my brushless clients have small children.

Because toilet brushes are disgusting...

There have been many a thread condemning those who have them... Basically storing poo particles in a brush and pot ewww!!

I steam clean my toilet..

Szeli · 04/07/2013 14:56

How do you scrub under the rim off your toilet then and down the u bend bit?

I'm not a massive fan of loo brushes but they serve a purpose here

AKissIsNotAContract · 04/07/2013 14:56

I have one and I'm quite anal about poo germs on toothbrushes etc.

I don't see why people on MN think loo brushes are gross yet keep their toothbrushes in the bathroom. Would you keep your cutlery in the bathroom?

RobotBananas · 04/07/2013 14:56

Oh god... What have you started!

BackforGood · 04/07/2013 14:57

I agree with you Katy - but there's a big part of MN who think toilet brushes are somehow disgusting.... mind, there's a LOT of odd folk on MN Wink

KatyTheCleaningLady · 04/07/2013 14:57

If you rinse and bleach it after each use, it's probably cleaner than most doorknobs.

I do rinse an bleach mine a lot, though. I also buy the super cheap Asda ones and just toss them if they are really gross. They cost about 50p and I probably buy four a year.

For the U bend and rim my steam cleaner has a bendy pipe... Bend and spray... All clean...

Tooth brushes are kept inside the cabinet and go though the dish washer on a non soap very high temp wash...

Chattymummyhere · 04/07/2013 15:00

Too add those of you who just throw away toilet brushes or use massive amounts of bleach to keep them clean are not exactly helping the plastic issue or the issue of how damaging bleach is for the environment

HeadFairy · 04/07/2013 15:00

Toilet brushes are grim... I use disposable wipes to clean around the bowl and under the rim - not great for the planet I suppose. I'm currently working on training dh to clean his own skid marks up with loo paper rather than leaving them to dry. Seriously, he's a grown man I shouldn't have to tell him! What do their mothers teach them?

Tee2072 · 04/07/2013 15:00

And there are probably poo particles in your cutlery drawer...

Szeli · 04/07/2013 15:00

I don't get the poo bits either - you don't stick them in when there's poo floating and they live in a little pot filled with bleach and are thouroughly rinsed after scrubbing with bleach - I bet germ wise they aren't that bad...

Tee2072 · 04/07/2013 15:01

Also? It's a toilet. It's purpose is poo and skid marks. Get over it, everyone poos.

Szeli · 04/07/2013 15:02

Saying that they reckon on there's 10,000 times more germs under the average fingernail than there is the average toilet seat - but that could always be anti nail biting propaganda...

KatyTheCleaningLady · 04/07/2013 15:02

Bleach production is bad for environment. Using it is not.

And I don't care. I'm not going to buy a steam cleaner.

I have a toilet brush.. I know that the Mumsnet majority think they are gross, but I'm not putting my hands down the toilet to clean.

I have never thought of using a steam cleaner to clean the toilet. I might invest in one now though.

KatyTheCleaningLady · 04/07/2013 15:07

I guess they are gross. But I just bleach it and stop thinking about it.

It's far grosser to expect your cleaner to deal with the pebbledash bowl without a brush. That's what's really weird.

Tee2072 · 04/07/2013 15:10

I don't have a cleaner. I do have a loo brush.

AKissIsNotAContract · 04/07/2013 15:10

I think it's awful that people leave skids for their cleaner. I have a cleaner and I'd be ashamed if she saw my skids. There are some things a cleaner shouldn't be expected to do.

ilovexmastime · 04/07/2013 15:10

I cannot imagine leaving a poo streaked bowl for someone else to clean, even if I am paying them. Gross!

Even grosser? Sticking your hand down the toilet to clean skids with toilet roll.

Toilet brushes rule!

bankofmum · 04/07/2013 15:12

The thing is some people don't have a loo brush because they don't respect their cleaner. My partner used to clean, if they think it's someone elses job to clean up they would leave disgusting skids, also spilt milk, juice, dirty plates etc

Tee2072 · 04/07/2013 15:12

Don't you people flush? What's with all these poo streaked toilets?

bankofmum · 04/07/2013 15:15

Have you never flushed and some of it's still there? Blimey

Szeli · 04/07/2013 15:15

They might have those German poo shelf toilets!
