to think not having a toilet brush is weird?

I'm cleaning a house with no bog brushes. There are always streaks in the toilets. Confused

And several clients have those disposable head brush handles in stands next to the loo, but no heads for them. They just gather dust and get in my way and still nothing to scrub the bowl with!

I carry a designated washing up brush for these sorts of houses, and it requires much rinsing and bleaching before I wrap it backup up in its plastic bag. It's all very disgusting.

What's up with that??

Agree with cantspel flush power is not enough. And I thought toilets in the UK were weak, until I saw toilets in the US. Nightmare.

Headagainstwall · 04/07/2013 17:00

Umm... They just don't. That only happens if I have diarrhoea. Sorry tmi.

HeffalumpTheFlump · 04/07/2013 17:11

I really can't understand the logic behind a brush that is used with bleach and then rinsed being dirtier than using your bare hands and toilet roll to wipe up poo. I also can't see how my loo brush is harbouring this apparent army of germs when it's used with bleach every time! Then it sits in the pot in a bleach solution until the next time. Unless you are bleaching your hands after the toilet paper fandango, I would say my way is cleaner!!

Even if the brush is harbouring said germ army, so what? As far as I'm aware the germs will not be able to migrate to the rest of the bathroom and the only place the loo brush will be touching is the toilet. Why does it matter so much? Confused If you are licking or eating out of your toilet you have much bigger problems to deal with!

Sorry, but to expect a cleaner to clean your toilet without a loo brush is so gross. Ok if you want to do it that way yourself but don't put your cleaner through that!

IloveJudgeJudy · 04/07/2013 17:17

Live in a hardwater area. Have a brush next to every toilet in the house. I do sometimes leave skiddies under the waterline. I'm not going to put my hand into the water with toilet paper that disintegrates very easily. Yuk. Flush does not dislodge skiddies around here.

I did once go to a friend's house for the weekend and left skiddies. No loo brush. No bleach in the bathroom. Had to leave skiddy. Nothing mentioned. Loo did not have window to open, either. All in all, pretty grim.

Agree about poo particles flying around. Toilet seats get put down here, except when visitors come. Why don't they put down the seat if that's how they found it? Hey?

mummytolucas411 · 04/07/2013 17:34

A toilet brush has to be the oddest idea ever, to keep something absolutely covered in.. Toilet germs? Makes me shudder

flatmum · 04/07/2013 17:43

if I see any skids I chuck some bleach over them, close lid, leave. next time I am passing it is normally always gone. if not, I flush the chain and its gone. no need for mingling brush or pooey hands.

tbh I am a bit mystified to know what guest do as I have never seen one leave a skid. perhaps they don't dare crap at my house. or they use the bleach that is in the bathroom?

seventiesgirl · 04/07/2013 18:24

So, to clean skid marks off the loo you shove your hand in the water with a piece of bog roll?? WTF! Or do you have a special Marigold for such purpose?

EvenBetter · 04/07/2013 18:41

Put bleach under rim of the bog. Hey presto, no need to ever touch the inside of it with toilet roll or a filthy brush.

To the poster who asked about faeces infested toothbrushes (teethbrushes?), yeah, with the force of a flush, faeces particles are shot 14 feet into the air if you leave the lid up. This can spread things like the norovirus. BOKE!

HappyYoni · 04/07/2013 19:10

I heart toilet brushes :) I would never not have one, and if I went for a poo in someone else's house and it left brown marks under the waterline I would leave it for them to clear up and think that's what you get for not leaving a toilet brush out!

HappyYoni · 04/07/2013 19:10

Ps incidentally this is quite a momentous day, I have read and enjoyed so many toilet brush debates on MN but this is the first time I've joined in :)

HappyYoni · 04/07/2013 19:12

AND I prefer guests to take their shoes off. Check me out making a hardcore MN stance :)
I do not however give a shiny shite if other peoples kids drink fruit shoots.

Floppityflop · 04/07/2013 19:20

The way I was taught to clean toilets professionally was to spray the bowl with the Mr Muscle (or foreign equivalent actually, Meister Proper) scrub away with the brush and use the flush to clean the brush. Job done. This was in poo shelf land (aka Germany).

merrymouse · 04/07/2013 19:21

Can't see how putting your hand in a toilet to clean is any worse than clearing up after a nappy explosion.

On the other hand I wouldn't expect a cleaner to do anything more than squirt some loo cleaner down toilet. I would clear up skid marks before cleaner in the same way that I wouldn't leave toothpaste spit in the basin.

Chivetalking · 04/07/2013 19:23

Toilet brushes all the way chez Chive although after reading this thread I'm amazed I'm still here Grin

TheMagicKeyCanFuckOff · 04/07/2013 19:27

I prefer having a brush, it's easier for me and anyone using the toilet, like a friend, who might leave marks (and be too embarrassed or not know where to get cleaning stuff for it).

KitNCaboodle · 04/07/2013 19:34

No brush here. Squirt bleach on them straight away and they disappear with the flush. Easy.

HeffalumpTheFlump · 04/07/2013 19:38

Could someone please explain the German poo shelf situation to me please? It sounds like they must have a shelf that catches the poo, but that can't be right surely?? Then what do you do? Scoop the poo off the shelf? And if the shelf is out of the water, their poos must stink the place up much much more as I thought the water acts as a stink minimiser?? Please someone tell me I have got this completely wrong as I think I must have missed the original German poo shelf thread. Confused

Suzieismyname · 04/07/2013 19:59

Merrymouse you are so right. Can't believe so many posters are squeamish about a bit of poo when surely they've had to change countless nappies!

apollo1234 · 04/07/2013 20:01

I'd rather have a few streaks in the loo for an hour or two than keep a stick with shit on the end in the house at all times.

Suzieismyname · 04/07/2013 20:06

Heffalump I've not seen one in Germany but have experienced it in Holland. Poo shelf is above the water line, (I've always assumed so you can 'inspect' your poo à la Geraldine McKeith) but when you flush the loo it falls down into the water like a big poo niagra...

BadgersRetreat · 04/07/2013 20:13

I'm with kit if you leave a skid in the loo just squirt bleach at it and leave it for a bit....no need to get 'hands on'

TheCutOfYourJib · 04/07/2013 20:19

Every time you do a poo
Stick some bleach down the loo.

Problem solved, no skid marks and no disgusting, stinky, look horrible even if they were brand new, toilet brushes.

TheCutOfYourJib · 04/07/2013 20:21

Although I have stayed in houses where there is no bleach or loo brush in the guest bathroom.
That is gross, I want to be able to leave without leaving marks!

EleanorFarjeon · 04/07/2013 20:23

I think loo brushes are just foul.

I am very snobby about them.

apollo1234 · 04/07/2013 20:30

Just for clarity though a skid mark is not toxic waste, its actually less toxic than bleach.
