...about wee in the kitchen sink?

Genuinely don't know who is being unreasonable in this situation! I was visiting neighbour. We all live in tall terraced houses, with no downstairs loo. Her DD is potty training, so there was a potty in the kitchen, on a mat. DD used the potty- then her Mum emptied it in the kitchen sink and washed it away with water.

I was a bit (shock). She saw my face, and explained that wee is actually sterile when it comes out, which explains why you can drink it (if you want!) and that she puts bleach down the sink every evening, and doesn't ever use the sink for anything except getting water, as all dirty pots go in dishwasher, and she doesn't do handwashing! Plus- it was only a little girl fairy wee....
I felt that although it's not something I would do, I could see her point. However, when I told DP he was appalled, and is now refusing to go round there next weekend for the BBQ we've been invited to. Says he wouldn't enjoy the food! I've pointed out that it's unlikely she'll marinade the sausages in the sink, but he won't be budged.
So- is she unreasonable for tipping wee in the sink?
Am I unreasonable really not to care?
Or is DP unreasonable for being horrified and refusing to go round?

DP has agrees to listen to Mumsnet jury!
Thanks for reading!

YANBU

The wee will splash when she empties the potty ffs. Why do you think man toilets smell?!

Disgusting lady.

limitedperiodonly · 25/06/2013 12:41

Wouldn't tip wee down the sink but I realised I was a minger when I said on here that I handwashed delicate things like tights and lace panties in the kitchen sink and was lectured about poo particles.

I deliberately called them lace panties btw because that disgusts people too Wink

IneedAyoniNickname · 25/06/2013 12:42

Where are you meant to pour meat juices if not the kitchen sink?

THERhubarb · 25/06/2013 12:45

EMBRACE YOUR INNER MINGER!

CreatureRetorts · 25/06/2013 12:45

So everyone saying it is ok, let's wee in the sink and shit in our saucepans then. As long as we wash it it will be fine Hmm

MildredIsMyAlterEgo · 25/06/2013 12:48

The wee in the sink wouldn't bother me

but please can we refrain from saying lace panties

Grin
THERhubarb · 25/06/2013 12:49

Yup, EVERYONE is saying that. I mean, you're in the minority here.

Did you not hear Mintyy saying that she tips up raw chickens and drinks their juices? Or bragmatic saying that she keeps her first aid box in a bucket full of piss?

Hang your head in shame CreatureRetorts for being so clean

Ew!

crumblepie · 25/06/2013 12:51

i agree with your dh if she does this in front of you i dread to think of other disgusting things shes does , can imagine her picking her nose or ears and scratching her head while getting the bbq stuff ready , wheres she going to rinse the lettuce and stuff in the toilet .

CreatureRetorts · 25/06/2013 12:52

I didn't say everyone, I said everyone who said it was ok...!

ArthurSixpence · 25/06/2013 12:52

I used to wee in the sink in my room when I was at university as they weren't en-suite and the toilets were at the end of a long, cold, noisy corridor - so if it was the middle of the night and I'd had a few I'd use the sink. Bleach once a term.

None of this fairy wee after a few pints either. Tell DP it will be fine.

THERhubarb · 25/06/2013 12:53

Oh sorry yes, everyone who said it was ok do in fact shit in their pans and piss in their sinks.

I've seen them.

Your statement is FACT.

EugenesAxe · 25/06/2013 12:57

I've done that. I don't make a habit of it though and generally use the utility sink, although I have once used the small 'side' sink in the kitchen.

To be honest I'm pretty casual about bacteria. Maybe we are brushing our teeth with shit, but since I've washed my teeth for years and never had e.coli poisoning, I'll take my chances. I clean my house adequately and encourage hand-washing etc. My BIL is obsessive about germs and yet DN has still been hospitalised twice with a stomach bug. I just don't think we should stress about low-level germs; they help us to build up our immune systems.

(Mumsnet teaching old ones swearing ways!)

jacks365 · 25/06/2013 13:01

If you can't handwash in the kitchen sink then where are you supposed to? Better grab a couple of rocks and head down to the stream then.

JazzDalek · 25/06/2013 13:01

I'm with EugenesAxe

This doesn't bother me at all, and I do find germ-paranoia a bit silly tbh.

limitedperiodonly · 25/06/2013 13:03

Does anyone else use the corner of their dressing gown to wipe dry coffee cups if they can't find a bacteria infested tea towel?

cozietoesie · 25/06/2013 13:03

Please let nobody explain to the OP (and her DH) what smells being particulate is all about.

Hmm
curlew · 25/06/2013 13:03

I am constantly amazed at the number of people who don't seem to think washing things makes them clean!

THERhubarb · 25/06/2013 13:05

Depends what you wash them in.....

Iseeall · 25/06/2013 13:08

This thread is making me laugh .
Many years ago when I had my last dc I would take my urine sample to the midwifes appt, she would test the wee and then tip the wee down the sink rinse it out and hand it back to me so I could reuse it.
I take it that doesn't happen any more in these hygiene obsessed days!

gotthemoononastick · 25/06/2013 13:08

Limitedperiodonly!!!!Surely you do not??Dirty tea towels are horrid though.I microwave dishcloths, sponges ,the brush and tea towels for a few minutes.

5madthings · 25/06/2013 13:09

It wouldn't particularly bother me. I tended to tip it down the outside drain if the potty was downstairs.

limitedperiodonly · 25/06/2013 13:09

Afraid so.
