to feel let down by mumsnet

A friend has been raving about mumsnet and said that i should join as it is "like talking to friends who are supportive, friendly and who give sound advice." I have been lurking on mn and have been reading lots of threads and have been put off from starting a thread myself because i found some of the replies really quite un friendly (to say the least) and some sound quite rude. I realize that mn prides its self on being a 'no nonsense' type of forum and life isnt all flowers and fluffy clouds, and that sometimes the truth isnt always 'nice' but i was quite shocked at some of the 'un sisterly' comments.

OP posts:

reeling. I have a horror of that as well.
They jump sometimes as someone walks past the tank.
I do a double back, to make sure they are all still in there!

usual. You said that if she had any of those problerms she would have got support. "And anyone saying she wouldnt, doesnt know MN".

But she said "have been put off from starting a thread myself..."
So we dont know, do we?
She never got past first base on here.

yamsareyammy · 22/06/2013 08:49

I realised I havent phrased that quite right.
Yes, I agree with you that she would have got that support, if she felt able to write about it in the first place.

[Yes, I realise she may have wanted to post about fish!]

famousblueraincoat · 22/06/2013 09:42

Haha, MN as Asda and Netmums as M&S. Grin Is that good or bad for the marketing strategy?

amazingmumof6 · 22/06/2013 10:18

I think OP is that hoor Sharon. stirring trouble.Wink

LittleMissGerardButlerfan · 22/06/2013 10:22

More like Nethuns = organic farmers market
Mumsnet = Waitrose (Pom bears and naice ham)
:o

I wonder what the Nethuns make of us?

famousblueraincoat · 22/06/2013 11:53

I dunno. In Waitrose you don't get fights in the checkout queues.

ClaraOswald · 22/06/2013 12:11

Going on past discussions seen on NM they think we a bunch of itches.

Leave the bastards Wink

(Just incase it hasn't been done)

yamsareyammy · 22/06/2013 12:23

Maryz, can I ask you a question.
Do you think that this op is a goady so and so
If you do what basis do you have for that?

Because, across the board, particularly in teenagers, you are v v helpful.
So how do you know, for instance, that this op was not going to ask for help about her teenager?

And lay off people's fish btw!

LittleMissGerardButlerfan · 22/06/2013 12:35

A bunch of itches yes they even banned the word bitch didn't they, along with cunt, fuck and all the other swear words!

I wonder if the word troll is banned Wink

yy Maryz

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 22/06/2013 12:42

if you have lurked and not posted before, and found MN to be too bracing, would you really post your first thread on AIBU, bitching about it?

I think not.

yamsareyammy · 22/06/2013 12:47

See, I read it differently.

I think that she is probably genuine, and feels intimidated to post about her teenager or whatever. Probably from being on some of the boards that are a bit, what shall we say, robust. [not meaning the teenager one at all].
Perhaps, for instance, she has seen Education, which, again, can sometimes not be for the faint hearted.

I could be wrong. I havent been on MN anywhere near the amount of time you have, and I suspect that your radar for this type of thing is better than mine.

And I am not going to tell you again about the fish!Hmm

yamsareyammy · 22/06/2013 12:48

Good point Jamie.
Depends how long you have lurked for though, I suppose.

As someone pointed out upthread, the OP has to be Holly Willoughby

Thumbwitch · 22/06/2013 13:29

Maryz is wise even if she's a bit insensitive about the fish

I like fish, in tanks and in my tum, although not the same fish, usually. Grin

Pimpf · 22/06/2013 13:44

Can I ask why the op has to be HW? Am I missing something? (I usually am!)

usualsuspect · 22/06/2013 13:46

Maryz is wise and clearly a MNHQ favourite as her posts have not been deleted.

Purlesque · 22/06/2013 13:47

Cantbedoingwithit I know what you mean (haven't read many replies btw) this is why I don't spend much time on the (school playground) AIBU forum.
I only pop over here once in a blue moon, when I do I am reminded why I don't bother.
I've been called a pervert on this thread by some mumsnetters (cyber bullies) on a thread I started a while back.

RiotsNotDiets · 22/06/2013 13:48

Pimpf she did a webchat and a few MNers asked some tricky questions

Which she dodged and instead talked about dresses and other yawn inducing stuff.
