or is it just where I live? everyone is wandering around in pjs, go to the shop someone's there in pjs, bobbing out of each others houses in pjs, kids on the park not dressed. I don't even like putting the bin out in my pjsGrin am I missing a new craze or something

my parents promised me that they would get me a Chanel suit ... It was the nineties and was a shell suit.

Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Absolutely brilliant.

1970s - I wore these ...

I'm in Australia, and were I live it seems noone gives a shit about ANYTHING anymore. Anything goes it apparently. It makes me angry, and I bloody well DO judge. I'm not a snob at all but I despair at the lack of personal standards that people have. There are too many people that don't have enough respect for themselves or the general public that they go out looking like crap. Pyjamas, no shoes and filthy feet, no shirt, trackies, ugg boots or moccasin slippers, hair not done, filthy clothes and generally looking like homeless people. How hard is it to have a wash and put some clothes on? I'm not some old fuddy-duddy either, I'm a young mum. What sort of message is that sending out? Noone bloody cares. We definitely have some rougher areas around here where it's worse, but I see it in the more affluent areas too, so it's not even a case of money. It's standards, or a lack thereof. I have never gone out the front door with pjs on because I'd feel like a minging scruff. Apparently in my town if you dress nicely, you are looked at like you have two heads, or are percieved to be a "snob" or "up your own arse" because you took 5 minutes to put some actual clothes on and make yourself presentable to the world. It's not teaching our younger generations anything if they think it's ok to turn up to a job interview in a ripped tshirt, shorts and flipflops.

Oh my! What a great thread! I too do not get why people go out in their pjs. My dh is guilty of popping to the shop in his onesie (which he insisted on having for Christmas!) and I refuse point blank to go with him! It makes me cringe!

As for onesies being comfortable, has anyone ACTUALLY slept in one? They most definitely are NOT conducive to a good night sleep!

I ALWAYS dressed my babies for the day. I was guilty of frilly knickers over nappies, so shoot me now! Lol. In fact my first baby had 3 or 4 outfits a day. And two baths most days. But then I got many comments about how well turned out she was.

I also wore the kilts with a giant safety pin as a child. No idea why! And stripy jeans handed down via my aunt... I look at some of the outfits my children wear and whilst I love them I know when they are older they will more than likely cringe. It's the way life is!

AudrinaAdare · 13/06/2013 09:28

Fleecy onesies with zips are indeed very uncomfortable. I'd happily sleep in a cotton one though! Saved a fortune buying baby shoes and socks, which invariably get lost.

The only thing I don't like about them is when you can see that the baby has out-grown them and can't straighten their legs properly. Babies, being babies, seem to do this overnight so I'd have to cut the feet off for a few days until I could get to the shops for some more in the next size up.

Where do you live? I want to come observe the pj people

Sparklymommy · 13/06/2013 09:42

MrsDeVere I had one of those too! Will have to ask my mum what possessed her to think they were a good idea!

Me too. And nylon petticoats, all static-y

rootypig · 13/06/2013 09:48

I was in Sainsburys cafe the other days and there was a woman there in her dressing gown and slippers, having coffee with a friend. I kid you not!

Sparklymommy · 13/06/2013 09:51

Yeah, think I was a C and A girl :) or marks and spencer. I look back and cringe!

At primary school I remember the pe kit consisted of navy blue netball knickers and a white polo top. I cannot imagine my dds wearing that! Lol

AudrinaAdare · 13/06/2013 09:56

We did P.E and "Music and Movement" in our actual vests and knickers. Don't remember a P.E uniform although you could wear a leotard. That was scratchy too, but these were the days before lycra ones. Lycra leotards were the height of glamour.

I do this, only at weekends and only early in the morning (just PJ bottoms with a jumper on top - not full PJs Grin)to my local shop if I need some milk or a paper (DD comes in her PJs too). I have never gone to the supermarket in them or to the shop any time after about 9.30am in them.

KellyElly · 13/06/2013 11:14

Its about not understanding a fashion for wearing minging PJs outside the house. Can I just say MrsDrVere, my PJ's bottoms are actually very nice and by no way minging I'll have you know. And I was them daily Grin

KellyElly · 13/06/2013 11:14

Actually I did as a teenager sometimes wear a flowery, button down brushed cotton nightie with my Doctor Marten boots and my friend used to wear silk men's pj bottoms, rolled up also with dm's - we obviously thought we were so cool ha! That was about 24 years ago, just before my grunge days iirc....

No pj wearers in my neck of the woods, but it can get a bit chilly in the far NE of Scotland - maybe that is why people wear proper clothes?

ARealDame · 13/06/2013 11:57

One thought I have - isn't it all a bit, well, smelly, wearing your pyjamas day-and-night. If you never change, presumably you never wash or put clean knickers on.

nemno · 13/06/2013 12:15

I have conducted research amongst my offspring. University towns have sported bepajamaed gels for several years now. These are not necessarily nightware PJs but dayware ones (indistinguishable in style but possibly newer/less tatty). These are nice MC universities too :)

KellyElly · 13/06/2013 14:45

MrsDeVere Ah see I exercise at night so shower before bed so I still smell fresh when I get up (and I sleep in knickers and am slightly alarmed that someone upthread thought that was gross) Grin

TheNewson · 13/06/2013 17:36

It's slovenly! Had to chuckle at those of you who clearly haven't seen this. MY Nan's family were v poor yet always wore their Sunday best. Some Moms sport the look on the school run too. Classy!

marjproops · 13/06/2013 17:41

Johnny Fingers of the boomtown rats (showing my age) was the only person who was accepted by society wearing pjs in public Grin

Ilikethebreeze · 13/06/2013 17:53

I saw this for the first time this week. Gave me a bit of a jolt. Oddly, she was in the middle of the street, aged about 60, 9.30am, but looked all made up and hair styled - in pink pjs and pink slippers. Didnt quite know what to make of it.
