or is it just where I live? everyone is wandering around in pjs, go to the shop someone's there in pjs, bobbing out of each others houses in pjs, kids on the park not dressed. I don't even like putting the bin out in my pjsGrin am I missing a new craze or something

MrsDeVere. I think the point about the slogan t shirts was meant to mean, in the great scheme of things does wearing PJs really matter.

No it doesn't really. It's just another thing for Judgy McJudge to sneer at. All you have to do is look at the comments that say it is on a rough estate. Another judgement thing. W

KatieScarlett2833 · 12/06/2013 17:00

So what?
The world isn't going to end over someone wearing uggs and Jammies in Tesco.
Why does anyone even care? I don't do this because I am vain but couldn't care less what other people wear. It doesn't hurt me, them or anyone else.

I hanker after the days of wearing hats for all occasions. I love a nice hat but it's hard to wear one without looking like an affected twat.

Unless it's a woolly thing and it's snowing. Confused

marjproops · 12/06/2013 17:57

i also think its a moral decline and total disregard and decency. pjs were made for bed. clothes were made for daywear. i dont think the war ref was OTT, no one seems to give a fig any more about anything unless its for theit own self.

i wore slippers out once as a child and got such a hiding from mum who was a stickler for dressing properly.

even when DC and i have a lazy 'duvet' day and dont go out,, we still get into comfy trackies, how dirty and grubby if people wear pjs all day then go to bed in same ones?

and if they CAN change into fresh pjs for bed then they have time to wear proper clothes in the street too.

lazy.

ive evn seen people in job centre 'looking for job of course' in pjs.

I've put my clothes on the line in the back garden in the morning (6/7am, summer time) whilst in my jammies :D
They're quite short (not kinky or anything, there's a cartoon bulldog all over them) and if my neighbours don't like it they don't have to fecking look >:]
I hate Uggs and onesies so it's a moot point for me :)

OrangeLily · 12/06/2013 18:30

It's a bit daft that so many people moan about PJs. When 'getting dressed' can involve things like heels?! Have you actually thought of how ridiculous heels are?!

I wear PJs a lot because I'm more comfortable and warm in them. I don't wear them out of the house but will take a bin bag out, hang a washing up or nip out to the car.

TheRealFellatio · 12/06/2013 18:34

Yes MrsD- silk gloves and a dainty pillbox with a net is deffo the way forward around Aldi. Let's all channel Celia Johnson from now on. Grin

I went to see The Great Gatsby this week. My goodness they knew a thing or two about proper glamour then, those Between The Wars East Coast Socialites. I was jealous.

SanityClause · 12/06/2013 18:44

I have never seen this. Never!

DD1 is 14 and did once wear a onesie outside. It's one of those Kigu ones that's a sort of giraffe costume. She made the day of some little ones who saw her.

Ilovemyself · 12/06/2013 19:26

Pretty poor form.

Moral deine.

It gave one of the ladies at the bridge club palpitations. (I know - I added the last one).

There is so much more that is important in the world. People dieing of starvation in 3rd world countries. The persecution and rape of women in india. Terrorist attacks around the world. The current trouble in turkey.

But no, it's more important to gripe about someone's choice of clothing.

Get a grip people. I guess you would rather them go down in clothes that cover next to nothing as they are "outdoor clothes"

marjproops · 12/06/2013 19:47

Ilovemyself feel free to start threads on stuff going on in the world.im sure well all contribute to those too.

tTHIS thread's about this subject and people are free to give their opinions.

this is something happening in this country that irks people here.

no ones stupid or thick here we KNOW about stuff going on in the world, as I said, THIS thread is about this particular subject and we are all having a good chat/rant about it and giving our opinions.

superbadspeller · 12/06/2013 19:54

Peole in my area seem to love their jammies Hmm i've on occasion went to the local shop in joggys and sandshoes but any further i put real clothes on i'd feel ick being outside in 'house clothes'.

I'm usually very partially dressed as i despise clothes but i've always managed to put together a decent looking outfit to leave the house in.

LeGavrOrf · 12/06/2013 20:00

Someone on mumsnet said once about this, I think about popular this is in Liverpool.

Said it is a bit of a two fingered salute to people, and that the pyjama wearer was wealthy enough not to do anything important all day, so could just slob around in pyjamas and hair in rollers, as it showed people you were resting to get ready to get dressed up for a night out. Plus the pyjamas are not worn to bed, but are put clean on and are well groomed,

I don't know how true that is. The only ones I have seen locally are slobs in dirty pyjamas with grimy cuffs, and I judge those rampantly.

Haven't seen it very often though, so it is quite remarkable.

Ilovemyself · 12/06/2013 20:00

Marj. You are missing the point I am making.

All that you are doing is judging people for something that isn't important. And to make things worse comments are being made about the areas where it happens most are "rough".

It is the worst bit of blatant snobbery I have seen on here.

Does it affect anyone. No. Is it causing any harm. No. So how can people be offended or outraged by this?

Now of this was the Daily Mail I would expect this sort of article.......

LeGavrOrf · 12/06/2013 20:01

I would have really suited the clothes in the 30s and 40/.

I was born at the wrong time.

likesnowflakesinanocean · 12/06/2013 20:09

I live here, I know its rough there's no two ways about it there buy I wouldn't say everywhere it happens is rough.its hard not to notice it when people are on the park in theirs pjs and dressing gown I don't see any need to not get dressed if your shopping/at the park/visiting neighbours. in the grand scheme of things there are more important things going on but that could be said for most threads

OP posts:
MyThumbsHaveGoneWeird · 12/06/2013 20:17

Why do people bother posting on threads just to say "you shouldn't be talking about this"? If I find a thread boring or irrelevant I just go and find another one. Personally I find the discussion of changing social norms interesting, if you don't can I suggest you just don't waste your time reading it?

Pinkponiesrock · 12/06/2013 20:20

I absolutely love my pjs and wear them as much as I can :) thankfully we live on a farm and no neighbours so I can go outside in my jammies as much as I want. I often feed the horses, cats, chickens etc in the morn before I get dressed. I would wear them out and about if I could but being a person with some standards I don't!

Ilovemyself · 12/06/2013 20:21

Sorry. Forgot to add. Of course you are entitled to your view. But it does seem a trifle Judgy and snobby.

It's one of those I am better than though type threads

AwkwardSquad · 12/06/2013 20:23

I thought that the young ladies in pjs with the big hair etc were generally wearing their good clean pjs out, not their actual going to bed pjs? I think it is partly a fashion thing, for the young 'uns anyway. Not so much the older women down th corner shop buying their fags but hey ho.

For what it's worth, when I was a teenager there was a fad for wearing pyjama bottoms out and about. Flannel striped or print silky ones. Also old men's long johns dyed all sorts of colours. It's in the job description of teenagers to wear stuff that makes adults go Hmm

TenbyChristmas · 12/06/2013 20:25

Personally, I don't like it nor the whole sportswear thing either. And I think Uggs are the worst thing in the planet, especially when the wearer has the back all worn down or is extremely hen toed like someone I know. Not her fault obvs but yuk to look at! I think velour tracksuits should be made illegal though.....

LeGavrOrf · 12/06/2013 20:30

Aren't uggs worn as slippers in Australia? I am sure I have read of Australians being baffled by the British habit of wearing the things outside in deepest winter.

AwkwardSquad · 12/06/2013 20:33

With the Uggs, it's the shuffling I can't abide. Shuffle shuffle shuffle. Shoofle shoofle shuffle shoof. PICK YOUR FEET UP! God.
