or is it just where I live? everyone is wandering around in pjs, go to the shop someone's there in pjs, bobbing out of each others houses in pjs, kids on the park not dressed. I don't even like putting the bin out in my pjsGrin am I missing a new craze or something

I've read about this a lot, but only seen it once. There were two women and about five children all in PJs in Tesco (I know, it would never happen in Waitrose) at about 2pm, - I can only imagine they all just got back from holiday or something and were too jet-lagged get properly dressed.

Yes, I'm happy with that explanation. Wink

gaggiagirl · 12/06/2013 14:16

I normally put the rubbish out/milk bottles/recycling in my jarmas but no one is there to see it really but I did answer the door to postie in just a towel which is shameful! Poor poor postie

samandi · 12/06/2013 14:17

It's just where you live. I've never seen people outside in their pyjamas. I've heard of it happening, but never seen it. It seems extremely strange behaviour.

I would never go out in my pyjamas. Pyjamas are for wearing around the house.

ChairmanWow · 12/06/2013 14:19

I don't understand why people get so upset. It's not like they're shopping with bare arses. They are actually clothed. I love my pjs and if I thought I could get away with it I'd wear nothing else.

Orange faces and too much make-up, now that's something to get upset about.

Thumbwitch · 12/06/2013 14:20

I saw someone in our local supermarket in her PJs yesterday, around 4pm. No good reason for it that I could see, although of course she may have had mental health problems.
I live in Australia - in a not-particularly rough area - it's not a common sight, but does happen. We see a LOT of people in no shoes though - but I think that's an Aussie thing.

TheRealFellatio · 12/06/2013 14:22

I have never, ever witnessed this apparent PJ phenomenon. I think must just live in a considerably better area than all of youse. Grin

Mollydoggerson · 12/06/2013 14:22

Some people have day PJ's. Why don't they just buy a day time tracksuit? I don't get it.

They are putting the same effort in by changing from night pj's to day pj's, why not just get dressed?

TheRealFellatio · 12/06/2013 14:26

I think people must be doing it deliberately now, like some weird kind of ironic anti-fashion statement. I can't imagine there can be that many people who just genuinely cannot be bothered to get dressed? Confused

And let's face it, if they haven't bothered to get dressed they probably haven't washed or cleaned their teeth either. Shock

likesnowflakesinanocean · 12/06/2013 14:30

Grin I do wonder when I see the same people out In the same pjs on the estate how long they have been wearing them all day fell into bed then carried on regardless the next day.

I do not live in the UK, but I have never seen anyone here in their pyjamas. However, you do get quite a lot of people doing their shopping in track suits/t-shirts and track suit bottoms, which is funny because they do not look like they do a lot of sport (think beer belly/set of spare tyres for the car).
It would never occur to me to spend the entire day in nightwear, unless I were ill and in bed.

Ilovemyself · 12/06/2013 15:18

Lookalikeacoconut. Did those who gave their life for freedom do it so you could wear what you want.

It's all a bit judgemental really. Does it make a difference who people are dressed?

Ilovemyself · 12/06/2013 15:18

How, not who.

It's pure laziness and lack of self respect, thankfully I only have my eyes burned occasionally where I live but travelling through certain areas where it's more common really angers me to be honest. Frail elderly people manage to dress themselves properly before leaving the house despite the effort it requires given their physical state because they have self respect. Then you have these lazy idiots who just can't be arsed taking a few moments to put some clothes on because they have none.

squalorvictoria · 12/06/2013 15:27

Slatterns, the lot of 'em.

I have anxiety dreams about being out in public in my pyjamas (similar to the "naked in public" dream, but less mortifying) Grin

Mollydoggerson · 12/06/2013 15:27

How do people feel about odd socks.

Seems nearly trendy now to wear odd socks, my mother commented on it recently, how 30 years ago men used to wear socks that matched their tie/handkerchief.

TheRealFellatio · 12/06/2013 15:28

But I really can't get my head round people going out in their pjs and slippers and dressing gowns if they are not poorly.

But it's ok is you are poorly. Grin

My poor ol' Grandpa would be turning in his grave if he had to witness this lovely bit of UK subculture. Even up until he was too ill too leave the house at 86, he would wash, shave, comb his beautiful silver hair and put on a shirt and a tie EVERY DAY to walk into town and buy his newspaper everyday.

defineme · 12/06/2013 15:32

It's just fashion:not a moral decline.
It's not to my taste, I think they look like tits, but no harm in it When I was 12 I wore a VW sign around my neck in tribute to the beastie boys, when I was 15 I wore black lipstick everyday...There's alwas been stupid fashion.
My Grandad fought in WW2 and would have laughed, just like he did at the Rolling Stones, he had some tattoos that a lot of people would have sneered at as well! There are some younger people that will have fought for their country around too, can't imagine it bothers them.
Save the rage for young lads wearing rape slogan tshirts or ones with pornographic images on-that's worth ranting about.

SkinnybitchWannabe · 12/06/2013 15:37

I work evenings in a huge supermarket and we often get people in who think its hilarious to walk around in pjs or a onesie.
They just look like utter knobs tbh.
I wouldn't even take my dc out in nightwear!

noddyholder · 12/06/2013 15:40

There are war veterans who risked their lives and you can't be bothered to get dressed pmsl That is so OTT

I am not lazy nor do I lack self respect but what I do have is a real sense of myself and who I am and what suits me at any particular time and if I want to go out in my PJs I will. I often throw a coat on and nip out. It wouldn't be my first choice of outfit and I do have a lot of clothes but sometimes I don't feel the need to get dressed. When we had all that snow I went out in some crazy combinations and quite enjoyed it

noddyholder · 12/06/2013 15:45

Define I totally agree its fashion Models wander about sets liek that with the pjs and rollers and girls copy.

TheRealFellatio · 12/06/2013 16:09

Yes, it's silly bints copying Jordan, with her rollers and her fishlips set in an orange face.

CheapBread · 12/06/2013 16:17

I've rarely seen this but just this morning I saw a woman in her 'jamas and dressing gown on her phone AT THE SIDE OF A BUSY ROAD AS HER CAR HAD BROKEN DOWN HA HA HA. Made me think of that phrase about leaving the house with tidy underwear just incase you're run over by a bus...
