To leave DP over £2000 he 'accidently' threw away with the rubbish?

I think this has to be the final straw really.

We run a business. Its a struggle. Just when I think we're finally turning a corner I discover the DP had accidently thrown out an envelope with just over £2000 in it. We were paid by a customer on Friday, the money was due to go into the bank today and now its in a landfill somewhere.

Gutted is an understatement. Just another careless idiotic thing in a long line. I hate running this business, I've had enough and I just want to leave.

You have a FT job.
Leave him and his business behind.
I spent 30 years working in a job (running X husband's business) that I didn't want to do, to support him.

When he was shagging around I thought I couldn't leave as I had no proper job.

I was wrong.

Many business people are incapable of working for any one else as they like to do everything their way, which maybe isn't the best way.
BUT that would be his problem.

You are slowly destroying your health by working so hard.
(sorry if that is harsh).

I can absolutely confirm that LaQ's husband lost a BMW..he has told me the storyhimself...(on the 8th of December 2003 in The Square, Golden Square, Aberdeen, at lunchtime).....

I know them both well, I stayed in the old house, I stayed in the new house...I've been in the bmw...

MrLaQ lost it...

Oblomov · 07/06/2013 08:07

Am laughing at the LeQueen BMW story being disputed!!
I banked 2k regularly for my old job. But now have read op latest, in pile of paperwork, comprehend how this may have happened.
Running a business is hard enough. Believe up will soon leave.

One of my patients neighbours tried to do the same thing to his car, he hadn't moved though so he got the letter from the dvla letting him know what was going on, he was old and couldn't drive anymore but didn't want to sell his car.

It was a loophole that I believe has been closed now.

Oblomov · 07/06/2013 08:29

Op opened mail to find unexpected invoice we didn't budget for?
Err, sorry ???
You did know it was coming. Or dp did?
You don't have unexpected invoices in business. You have unexpected costs. Called bad planning.
Unexpected inv's is bad forecasting and poor cashflow management.

CinnabarRed · 07/06/2013 08:45

Absolutely agree Oblomov - if you bought goods/used a service then expect an invoice! if you didn't know that the goods/service had been ordered then ask yourself why not....

lollylaughs · 07/06/2013 12:51

What role does dh play in the business if you are doing the lions share?

What is he doing all day while you are doing your other job?

So when you are working at night and weekends on this business, is dh also working with you?

There is a limit to how much can be expected from a person. You work f/t, have 3 dc and run the business after hours. When do you do things for you??

If you were thinking of leaving, he can still continue with his business and employ someone else to do what you are currently doing. You really shouldn't only stay because of the business...

laqueen i like your DH's style.............if he can afford it that is Grin

There is a house near me, I WANT IT, its been boarded up and overgrown for as long as i can remember. I don't see how anyone could live there, they couldn't get IN! There is a caravan in the front garden grown over with Ivy. For all i know there could be bodies! It would be my dream house and every time we drive past it i check for changes, there aren't any. If the house were done up it would £350K i reckon. So what loophole is there that i could just move in?? I am sure there was one, although i think it has been sewn up...................If anyone would care to correct me on that.......I mean, its sinful to leave it to rot. I'm not greedy, Im quite happy to move in and donate my house to the local authority for social housing, seems a fair bargain to me.

Oblomov: maybe the OP means unexpected cost, that resulted in an invoice.

Maybe you are splitting hairs.

TBH you sound incredibly smug about your amazing business knowledge.

Oblomov · 07/06/2013 15:20

FarBetterNow, do you call other posters smug when they post about something they know about, or is just me, that you're having a dig at?

I have/ had every sympathy with op, because she's got a ft job, yet running herself ragged, for dp, who she doesn't really seem to respect, because he doesn't pull his weight and she does all the donkey work of the business.
I suspect , and I posted that I wondered whether the invoice she knew nothing about, was just another sign of him, underestimating a job, then needing an emergency fix. No po raised? And bet he never even told her about it, because he didn't want to admit he had stuffed up,again. This, I am all surmising, because I don't know, why she got an invoice she knew nothing about. But I bet I'm not far off.

Quote, purchase order raised. Get invoice, you already know how much its for. No surprise.

Bet if op left him, she could run alot of the business herself. She does already.

I have every sympathy for op. I have no idea why she's trying so hard, running herself ragged, for what appears to be a twerp.

But you find my knowledge of business, smug? Nice.

Bathsheba · 07/06/2013 15:40

I was probably still going on about it that evening in the indoor trees restaurant...!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep - It was Simpsons and it is still there - a it of my other favourite places to go have closed but it is still there.

Will we have a party about half 10 which will be exactly 11 years since I heard your FIL and Big Grey Pants having their wonderful conversation. Is MrLaQ off out tonight to have 3 bottles of whisky. Is my DH even wearing pants (he isn;t here so I can't check)...

Portofino · 07/06/2013 22:14

LaQueen, taking a risk here as you tend to call conspiracy whenever I disagree with you, why are you going on about your Dhs BMW and ops "shambles"of a company? If you have really good experience of small businesses, should you not be giving op good advice on how to improve things here?
