To leave DP over £2000 he 'accidently' threw away with the rubbish?

I think this has to be the final straw really.

We run a business. Its a struggle. Just when I think we're finally turning a corner I discover the DP had accidently thrown out an envelope with just over £2000 in it. We were paid by a customer on Friday, the money was due to go into the bank today and now its in a landfill somewhere.

Gutted is an understatement. Just another careless idiotic thing in a long line. I hate running this business, I've had enough and I just want to leave.

ParadiseChick, I have the feeling you're trying to tell us something. If only I could work out what it is.

McNewPants2013 · 04/06/2013 21:13

here is a £100 note of scotland

Talkinpeace · 04/06/2013 21:14

OP
Speaking as an auditor : of the type that the insurance company send in to assess such claims.
He's taken it.
You will not get a successful insurance claim as you did not take "due care"
and never in a million years will you be allowed to the council tip.

Perihelion · 04/06/2013 21:14

Back to the point though OP, your partner sounds like my brother....incapable of facing up to life and lying. Chances are he's taken the money and even if he has accidently thrown it out, I'd be out of there. I'd be looking over all finances and for any debt you aren't aware of and making arrangements to seperate.

Gruntfuttock · 04/06/2013 21:15

I think that we in England are gradually beginning to understand that you have £100 notes in Scotland.

AnyFucker · 04/06/2013 21:16

You wouldn't be leaving him over just this incident though, would you love ?

GoodbyePorkPie · 04/06/2013 21:16

So where can I get one of these £100 notes, anyone know?

FannyFifer · 04/06/2013 21:18

You could get one in Scotland Goodbyeporkpie Wink

ParadiseChick · 04/06/2013 21:19

Think Scotland has some, could be wrong though.

QueenStromba · 04/06/2013 21:19

I don't believe for a second that he could accidentally throw away an envelope with a minimum of 40 notes in it. Was it £50s OP?

apostropheuse · 04/06/2013 21:20

So where can I get one of these £100 notes, anyone know?

You could ask at the Royal Bank of Scotland, Goodbyporkpie.

I believe there are branches all over England. Wink

CreatureRetorts · 04/06/2013 21:21

What a lame arse excuse. He threw it away Hmm

What so he threw it away just before the rubbish was collected Hmm

He lies.

apostropheuse · 04/06/2013 21:22

Another useless piece of information here...

One of the founders of the Bank of England was Scottish.

Sorry for going even further off-topic there!

auntmargaret · 04/06/2013 21:27

Yes, the £100 notes were in Scotland Smile I didn't realise they were such a rarity. Having said that, I was terrified the whole time I was out that I would lose the money. Got myself home like a bat out of hell.Grin

JamNan · 04/06/2013 21:30

It's a long shot but get a credit report from a company such as Experian, to see if there are any bank accounts, credit cards or other debts that you don't know about registered at your address. If he's up to no good, and is as careless as you say he is, he might not have covered his tracks too well.

Is he adamant that he accidentally threw the money away? How do you know it wasn't stolen by someone else? I am very suspicious. Report it to the Police.

marriedinwhiteagain · 04/06/2013 21:31

I'm really sorry you are going thRough this OP. I am sorry you might have difficult times ahead.Holds hand xx:

Snazzywaitingforsummer · 04/06/2013 21:39

That's a good suggestion about getting the credit reports.

TiggyD · 04/06/2013 21:47

What a horrible thread. Mistrusting, quick to blame, assuming the worst...

'If a man loses money, he obviously has a gambling problem, has set up secret accounts, should be reported to the police for theft. etc'?

If you don't trust him, leave him. And if he hears you don't trust him, he should leave you.

ImperialBlether · 04/06/2013 21:47

No way has he lost this! Too much of a coincidence with him being the way he is. You're right though, you have had enough of his shit now. Time to act.

sarahtigh · 04/06/2013 21:48

if you draw out a large sum in cash in scotland you will automatically be given £100 notes last week I got paid in £50 notes as BACS had failed at work so as one off we got cash

i do not believe it is thrown out but no council will allow either you, your DH or even their own staff to search, it would only happen if a really really serious crime then by forensic police

WetDog · 04/06/2013 22:01

TiggyD there's a lot of other stuff OP has posted about that is leading people to the LTB opinion.

sarahtigh Councils can, will and do allow people to search for lost belongings at the tip.

QueenStromba · 04/06/2013 22:01

TiggyD - I didn't say there was no way he chucked it out because he's a man, I said it because £2k in an envelope is pretty chunky even if it's in £50s or these mythical £100 notes. You just don't pick up an envelope with a minimum of 20 notes (but more likely between 40 and 100 notes) in it and chuck it in the rubbish without checking what's inside because there is obviously something in there, especially when you know there is an envelope in the house with £2k in it.

MortifiedAdams · 04/06/2013 22:07

Grin Paradise

hippoherostandinghere · 04/06/2013 22:08

In case anyone can't get to Scotland we have them in Northern Ireland too Smile

Pooforbains · 04/06/2013 22:09

Rubbish doesn't go straight to land fill or tip it will go to a recycling centre depending on who your council has a contract with. It will be sorted either manually or mechanically for anything that can be recycled then the rest taken to landfill. If you can find out who your council has a contract with and speak to them they may have it or can keep an eye out for it.
My husband works in recycling and you'd be surprised what comes down the picking belt of what people have chucked out!!
