To think that no one should be allowed to wear a sandal without some proper foot grooming?!

It's that time of year again... Ah summer and its long days of sunshine. I so love it but the one thing I fear most in this change of season? The sandalled "foot claw"!

Suddenly everyone is wearing heel, toe and full foot exposed foot-wear. And the exposed foot often is a scary site to behold: yellowed toe nails, bunions, fungus, severely cracked heels, dry skin. I am constantly shocked by how many people so casually don sandals with their feet looking a hot mess. Certainly not for public view.

AIBU to expect people to invest in a little foot grooming in the summer? Have people not heard of a podiatrist or a pedicure?

This is an honest question as the flagrant disregard for foot hygiene drives me nuts.. But I may be the only person who feels this way?!

Goodness I couldn't care less about the state of my feet. I'll wear sandals if its hot. It has never occurred to.net they might offend anyone.

lurkerspeaks · 02/06/2013 21:10

I am self concious about my unpainted toe nails (my pedicure is booked tomorrow so it seemed silly to do it myself on Friday) but I really wouldn't expect anyone else to judge me for the state of my unpainted toe nails.

Anyway you would really rather I bared my slightly dishevelled feet than continued to wear shoes. Hot feet make me grumpy. I must confess I do tend to wear sandals earlier / later in the season than most other people so think I must have unusually hot feet.

southeastastra · 02/06/2013 21:10

we have this thread yearly never seen it take quite so nastily! op next time post on style and you won't get the dry ugly feeters defending themselves quite so strongly Wink

williaminajetfighter · 02/06/2013 21:11

Is everyone feeling better now that you've barked at someone for being a 'snob'?

I honestly thought feet maintenance was a fairly basic part of grooming like washing your hair or cutting your finger nails. Or bathing. Or wearing clean clothes. That's what I was taught.

Apparently it appears to be some kind of elite treatment up there with luxury facials and laser hair removal.

So throw out the toe nail clippers people and rid yourself of the fungal cream! Release yourself from the shackles of personal grooming!! Sport those Birkenstocks with pride!! You win!

you might get different responses if you post your question in the Style & Beauty topic.

Sallystyle · 02/06/2013 21:12

BTW I have never had a pedicure in my life. I do it myself, doesn't take long.

HesterShaw · 02/06/2013 21:12

PS and I'm not sure you mean foot "hygiene". You mean food vanity.

coffeeinbed · 02/06/2013 21:12

No she won't.
At least not from me.

DH calls my feet The Griffin Feet

Salmotrutta · 02/06/2013 21:12

Don't you all realise its not polite to appear outside the home without being all smooth and glossy and shiny?

You will offend the OP and her delicate sensibilities.

Boomba · 02/06/2013 21:13

I don't stare at people's feet but when you walk behind people you notice their shoes or when you're standing in line

Confused

different dimension (again!)

Gardenofeden · 02/06/2013 21:13

I actually really really dislike nail polish on toes.... I think it's awful, tasteless tacky and soooo many other things... That's what I can't bear about sandals. And don't get me started on flip flops. They belong on the beach not the pavements.... My feet are fine so why make them groomed if that makes them horrible.....

Sallystyle · 02/06/2013 21:13

Yeah, try Style and Beauty.

I doubt many there would be seen out and about with horrid feet ;)

WTF is foot grooming?!

As if it isn't bad enough that we are supposed to shave our legs, slap on make-up, pluck eyebrows and wear the 'right' clothes (not that I do any of the aforementioned), we are now supposed to groom our feet Confused

I wash mine so they don't smell. If someone has a problem with their appearance, tough.

nenevomito · 02/06/2013 21:15

I have hairy toes, no varnish and a CBA attitude.

My feet are so sensitive to touch that the thought of a pedicure sounds utterly hellish and I'd probably involuntarily kick someone in the face if they tried.

crumblepie · 02/06/2013 21:15

im with the op , you notice the cracked heels on stairs and escalators , and standing in queues , it is horrible . yanbu.

dementedma · 02/06/2013 21:15

Never had a pedicure in my life but it is really not hard to tackle the dry scaly bits with a foot file whole in the bath/shower, and slap on a dollop of dry skin cream. I pay Ds 50p a foot to paint my toenails. Job done

dementedma · 02/06/2013 21:16

while

Chivetalking · 02/06/2013 21:16

You must be looking jolly closely to see some of those offences.

Who made you foot police?

Salmotrutta · 02/06/2013 21:16

Yeah, as long as feet are clean and the nails clipped I don't see what the hell it's got to do with anyone else!

lashingsofbingeinghere · 02/06/2013 21:17

YANBU Feet do need grooming imo. And it does not have to take hours or cost pounds.

I do my feet in the bath - a bit of a soak, a quick going over with a pumice, a trim with the nail scissors, a bit of foot cream, job done. I don't use polish but I think my toenails look ok without.

infamouspoo · 02/06/2013 21:17

I'd never heard of crached heels until MN. Then I examined my own. Thought about it it for 7.5 seconds. Then thought buggrit.
They get washed. They dont smell. I hate nail varnish. I dont have fungus. I think they are fine.
I dont moisterise anything to be honest.

Salmotrutta · 02/06/2013 21:18

Please tell me people don't actually wax or shave their toes too?!

It's bad enough having to faff about with the old legs and armpits!

squoosh · 02/06/2013 21:20

YADNBU

I'm sick of looking at people's gnarly hobbit feet. They have the right to keep their feet in whatever state of disrepair they so choose, I have the right to wrinkle my nose at the sight.
