To think that no one should be allowed to wear a sandal without some proper foot grooming?!

It's that time of year again... Ah summer and its long days of sunshine. I so love it but the one thing I fear most in this change of season? The sandalled "foot claw"!

Suddenly everyone is wearing heel, toe and full foot exposed foot-wear. And the exposed foot often is a scary site to behold: yellowed toe nails, bunions, fungus, severely cracked heels, dry skin. I am constantly shocked by how many people so casually don sandals with their feet looking a hot mess. Certainly not for public view.

AIBU to expect people to invest in a little foot grooming in the summer? Have people not heard of a podiatrist or a pedicure?

This is an honest question as the flagrant disregard for foot hygiene drives me nuts.. But I may be the only person who feels this way?!

Lol @ monet/money. Predictive text has totally changed written communications, often for the funnier.

Hats off to you infamouspoo - a person after my own heart! Grin

garlicgrump · 02/06/2013 21:03

I let my toenails do the typing, and this is what happens ...

chelsbells · 02/06/2013 21:03

It doesn't particularly bother me if other people's feet aren't well kept.. Unless someone were to shove their feet in my face.. Then I may have something to say about itShock

Personally though I do like to keep my feet soft, no cracked heels, moisturised and nails painted when I'm in open toes! Smile

williaminajetfighter · 02/06/2013 21:03

I'm so glad I started this thread. I clearly must be the most judges pants person in the world!

I don't stare at people's feet but when you walk behind people you notice their shoes or when you're standing in line. The world is clearly not going to end but I just feel its polite. What's the point of trying at all. Might as well go to work with dirty food stained clothes and a fleece....or maybe be that guy at work who never bathes.

"Shick" LOL!

TinBox · 02/06/2013 21:04

YABU - what's it to you?

People who hate on sandaled feet tend to have slight issues about feet in general, in my experience. Would you lecture people about other parts of their bodies in this way?

If someone turned up to work with highly visible pores on their face, would you call them 'unprofessional'? Would you find it unacceptable for a female colleague to display hairy forearms if she is 'on a fairly good salary'?

GlitteryShitandDanglyBaubles · 02/06/2013 21:04

I've shaved my toe knuckles, what more do you want? Grin

Salmotrutta · 02/06/2013 21:05

You actually really think its a point of politeness to groom your feet?

Are you quite mad?

SmiteYouWithThunderbolts · 02/06/2013 21:06

YABVVVU. I suppose women should only leave the house if their nails are immaculately manicured, hair neatly styled and with a full face of make-up too?

Off you fuck.

coffeeinbed · 02/06/2013 21:06

Oh FFS.

You seem easily offended.
Might be best to channel those energies into something worthy.

JollyShortGiant · 02/06/2013 21:06

Eh? I can't say I've ever noticed anyone else's feet. Very strange.

DM has psoriatic arthritis and the strange nails/swollen joints that go along with it. She wears comfy sandals all summer. I'm sure her feet would terrify you but there's not much she can do. If she could give up having psoriasis and arthritis then she would.

Talkinpeace · 02/06/2013 21:06

garlic
there HAS to be a reason for doing all that Yoga and fasting : chewing toenails is the best I've found yet
they are nicer than lentils ....

OP
If its any relief, many years ago DH and I were sitting on the sofa at a friend'd house and he saind
"gosh you have lovely feet"
He'd been working in a hospital pushing trolleys for a month and seen all sorts that were better covered up ....

then again, for the last 4 years I've had an infected foot so I have one pretty and one manky !!

GoblinGranny · 02/06/2013 21:07

I've been looking for sandals to replace those I got last year, whose strappy design concealed my unmanicured, unpampered and unpainted toes.
Can't find them.
I'll be wearing Crocs then.
Or wellies.

Salmotrutta · 02/06/2013 21:08

I think this has encouraging signs of being a prospective bunfighty thread...

weblette · 02/06/2013 21:08

Ooh my first ever ODFOD! Grin
I really don't give a flying whatever about my feet or anyone else's...

AMumInScotland · 02/06/2013 21:09

I either wear boots or sandals. Unless you think I should wear boots all summer, you're going to have to put up with my feet in whatever condition they happen to be in when a hot day happens.

I also "casually" go out without makeup. Tough shit if people think I should spend time and money "improving" on my natural state for their benefit.

I don't smell or look dirty. Beyond that, it's really none of your business.

ExitPursuedByABear · 02/06/2013 21:09

I move straight from wellies to sandals. You would hate my feet.

Do I care?

HesterShaw · 02/06/2013 21:09

Feet are for walking and running on, not for you to admire. So there.

Sallystyle · 02/06/2013 21:10

YANBU

If you have skanky feet please don't show them. Plenty of lovely summer shoes that are light but don't show off everything.

One person is on your side OP Grin

Salmotrutta · 02/06/2013 21:10

Remember wooden Scholls?

Practically killed you getting used to wearing them.

coffeeinbed · 02/06/2013 21:10

My feet are nice and soft though.
I did buy the Sholl thingy.
