why in what way does state sanctioned torture make this right?whats the gain
a moderate, liberal society deals with dysfunction and deviancy without torture
applying torture as punishment makes state as bad as him

Catlike · 31/05/2013 14:13

Erm no catlike, we are so angry at what he did to that littl girl. I bet you would feel the same if te same If in Aprils parents position

I'm guessing you are not actually the bereaved mother or father of April Jones Hmm If not, then it's distasteful and inappropriate of you to presume to speak on their behalf.

pumpkinsweetie · 31/05/2013 14:14

Child murders are the worst type of murder suck, because children are tiny and innocent and me and most of society find it hard to accept that such evil excists to hurt a person which is a lot smaller than them and more vunerable. I cannot fathom how anyone could could hurt, let alone murder a child and i find it sad some people are comparing this as the same as murders to a adult.

suckmabigtoe · 31/05/2013 14:24

did i say it was the same pumpkin?

murder of an adult is murder- the same as murder of a child is murder- in a way that GBH is not murder. murder is murder- yes there are degrees to which one murder may be viewed as 'worse' than another by some or all but they all fall under the 'murder' description in a way that any other crime doesn't.

Catlike · 31/05/2013 14:25

Erm no catlike, we are so angry at what he did to that littl girl. I bet you would feel the same if te same If in Aprils parents position

Actually, you're not just presuming to speak for April's parents, you are saying that the emotions you feel about her murder are the same as theirs. That is beyond inappropriate. Can you really not see that?

Boomba · 31/05/2013 14:28

how on earth did you come up with that interpretation catlike?

Catlike · 31/05/2013 14:31

Boomba read the post I quoted again Hmm

MotherofDragons82 · 31/05/2013 14:31

YABU to think that any human being "deserves" to have part of their body chopped off.

YABU to use the word "parts" in inverted commas in such a ridiculous manner. Do you mean testicles? Say what you mean.

YABU to suggest that torture should be an accepted form of punishment in civilised society.

motherinferior · 31/05/2013 14:32

He'll be in solitary, I'd imagine, as other prisoners won't want to be friendly with him; people who've committed sexual offences against children are prime targets for attack in prison (yes, yes, I know the 'torture him' brigade will now say 'and a good thing too'...)

Yes, he's a despicable sub-human. But state-sanctioned murder is not, IMO, the right thing for anyone - and that does mean it has to include people like Bridger.

motherinferior · 31/05/2013 14:33

And wot MotherofDragons said. I don't want to live in a society of the lynch mob.

Boomba · 31/05/2013 14:34

i dont need to read the quote again thanks

maybe you do

lottieandmia · 31/05/2013 14:40

YABU - this is not the 16th century - we don't hang, draw and quarter people any more Hmm

I don't know why people start threads like this. Nothing can bring poor April back. And as a civilised society we need to rise above crimes like these and justice should be done in a dispassionate way.

You cannot defeat evil by evil means.

lottieandmia · 31/05/2013 14:42

I also disagree that people who commit horrendous crimes are monsters or sub human. They are not sub human. Humans are capable of doing dreadful things sometimes, hard though it is to accept.

suckmabigtoe · 31/05/2013 14:46

i agree lottie. as much as it is tempting to tell yourself people like bridger are 'other' than you- i know it somehow makes it easier to cope with what he has done- he isn't. he is human. an absolutely vile example of one but still human.

suckmabigtoe · 31/05/2013 14:47

because only a human mind could come up with what he did. no animal would ever be capable of it.

lottieandmia · 31/05/2013 14:48

For those of you moaning about human rights upthread, those are YOUR human rights too, you know? You can't have rights for some people and not others.

BridgetBidet · 31/05/2013 14:50

It must be very difficult for April's parents. Particularly her father. Your instinct in these situations would be completely primal and you would be desperate to get your hands on him and just make him feel a moment of the fear he made April feel.

I think there is an argument for perhaps facilitating a safe way for her parents to confront him without violence and tell him exactly what a worm and a bastard they think he is. I don't think he should be protected from that. But maybe he would get some kind of sick kick out of seeing it.

He is in for a long, humiliating and awful life though. From somebody who has been used to controlled and intimidating people he is now going to be the one controlled and intimidated. I doubt it will be long until someone gives him a good hiding or sticks a knife in him.

So many people will be after him - the people protecting him would need to be lucky all the time, the attackers only need to be lucky once.

suckmabigtoe · 31/05/2013 14:56

bridget i think it's far more important that april's parents are guided through their grief and anger away from bridger. i agree that it might seem like a good idea for them to be able to tell him what he is- in reality i honestly dont think it would help them heal or move forwards with the process. lets say for example they are given a visit and they say all the things you think they would want to... and then he laughs at them. no-one can control what comes out of his mouth- he could taunt them or refuse to give them an audience (so he is then in control again!)
i think their healing needs to be entirey about them with no oxygen at all given to that man so that he could have any further effect on their emotional wellbeing.

motherinferior · 31/05/2013 14:57

Totally take your point about sub-human, and I shouldn't have used the word.

pigletmania · 31/05/2013 14:59

Erm catlike get your head out from the clouds. Of course I have no idea what poor Aprils parents are going through, I never said that at all. But what I can do is try to empathise! I have a little girl of Aprils age and jst imagining wat I would feel like if tat had happened to,dd. how come your the only one who has misread my post

pigletmania · 31/05/2013 14:59

Or Misinterpreted it rather.

Boomba · 31/05/2013 15:01

i have read somewhere, that April's parents are not going to ask MB where he put April. They know he wont tell them and wont give him the satisfaction of asking

minouminou · 31/05/2013 15:01

That's great news, Boomba. Well, of sorts. Good for them.

suckmabigtoe · 31/05/2013 15:01

actually i completely see and agree with catlike comment. it does seem as though you were saying april's parents feel the same way you are feeling.

pigletmania · 31/05/2013 15:11

No suck I cannot imagine what they are feeling. Unless you have been in their position nobody can. Bu iam a parent, Ivan think what I would do to the person if that happened to dd. no I don't sit there ruminating about, just a fleeting thought after reading te media and on this thread
