was a lovely sunny day today so I went bike riding with my family, as we waited in the queue for an ice cream, this girl screams and flicks a bug off her shoulder (we're in a country park)

anyway after a couple of minutes she looks at the dragonfly that she flicked off and promptly stands on it.

I'm quite Angry at this and tell her so, there were a lot of kids around. My mum said I shouldn't have had a go at her so WIBU?

I remember as a chid being terrified of dragonflies because I as convinced they breathed fire like dragons.

I think stamping on a dragonfly is extraordinary, but I also think telling another adult off is rather unusual as well. I think I would have pursed my lips slightly at the pair of you Grin

AKissIsNotAContract · 28/05/2013 00:03

not a vegan, don't really see what that has to do with it?

You're crying over an insect yet happy for other animals to be killed for you to eat and wear.

MyShoofly · 28/05/2013 00:03

What a ridiculous thing to "tell someone off" for.

So she isn't you - she has a negative reaction to bugs. Hardly unusual nor the end of the world.

I didnt realise I had to agree with everyone, all the time.

LooseyMy · 28/05/2013 00:06

I'd have told you to do one! You risked getting a very negative reaction back! And while humans get slaughtered the world over, no I don't care about insects!

MyShoofly · 28/05/2013 00:08

Hmm at the number of comments about the girl being a stupid asshole.

She was startled by an insect and killed it end of.

emstats · 28/05/2013 00:08

If she'd done it for 'humane' reasons surely she would have said and not gone red and mumbled? Sounds like guilt to me. No reason to think its hurt beyond repair just because it didn't immediately fly off. I say good on you! Ime people like it when others stand up and say something wrong, people should do it more.

ImABadGirl · 28/05/2013 00:09

ahh but I didn't get a negative reaction, she was ashamed, maybe she'll think twice next time...

I knew someone would pipe up about humans being killed, not quite the same thing

MyShoofly · 28/05/2013 00:10

the OP didn't educate her on the Importance of insects....she told her off like a smug so and so. Okay. I'm done now.

emstats · 28/05/2013 00:10

What's wrong with telling of other adults?! If their being an ass don't just stand there with everyone thinking it, blooming say something!

FesterAddams · 28/05/2013 00:11

seriously, it's a bug.

Serously, have you ever seen a dragonfly? They are beautiful with iridescent bodies and gossamer wings. Also, completely harmless.

If this girl woman can't appreciate such a wonderful work of nature, why is she in a park in the first place?

ImABadGirl · 28/05/2013 00:13

my thoughts exactly fester and no I wasn't being smug I was genuinely angry as to why she thought she had the right to stamp on it

Shallistopnow · 28/05/2013 00:13

Pumpkinsweetie: it'd be better if it was a dog, could do with less of them around, shitting everywhere.

ImABadGirl · 28/05/2013 00:15

ok then, if this woman had kicked a dog, would you have said something or come on here and wrote a thread about cruelty to animals and how the woman was being an asshole, tis the same sort of thing only I said something to the asshole

IneedAsockamnesty · 28/05/2013 00:16

Stuff like this amuses me. And you may find her friends were laughing at you.

SPsCliffingAllOverMN · 28/05/2013 00:18

ImA I dont think kicking a dog and squishing a insect are the same.

I wouldn't go up and tell someone my age off for standing on an insect. They would think I was mental and probably tell me to fuck off. Rightfully so.

IneedAsockamnesty · 28/05/2013 00:18

Kicking a dog would be an actual crime.

I think you should report the incident to the RSPCA and see what they say.

ImABadGirl · 28/05/2013 00:21

nope, pretty sure they were laughing at her for being pathetic

OP posts:
wannabedomesticgoddess · 28/05/2013 00:22

:o

SPsCliffingAllOverMN · 28/05/2013 00:22

No they will have been laughing at you. Btw there's a thread in chat about someone killing insects. No joke!

IKnowWhat · 28/05/2013 00:23

I wouldn't hae said nothing, I would have thought the dragonfly would have flown off if it could. I would have guessed it was injured.

Its not the same as kicking a dog Shock Confused

IKnowWhat · 28/05/2013 00:24

Oh dear, Blush. Typos galore plus REALLY bad grammer Sad sorry.

WorraLiberty · 28/05/2013 00:24

I wouldn't have killed it

My kids wouldn't have killed it

But the woman killed it, just like a cat might have done if it had seen it.

I can't raise any anger or fuss about it to be honest.

AKissIsNotAContract · 28/05/2013 00:25

How do you get through life if you get this distraught over a fucking insect?

ImABadGirl · 28/05/2013 00:27

I manage quite well, just don't like it when people think it's ok to kill innocent creatures, there were a lot of kids around and didn't think it was right.
