to have told this girl off today...

was a lovely sunny day today so I went bike riding with my family, as we waited in the queue for an ice cream, this girl screams and flicks a bug off her shoulder (we're in a country park)

anyway after a couple of minutes she looks at the dragonfly that she flicked off and promptly stands on it.

I'm quite Angry at this and tell her so, there were a lot of kids around. My mum said I shouldn't have had a go at her so WIBU?

Now who is getting hysterical.

AKissIsNotAContract · 27/05/2013 23:50

Does it really matter? (I say that as an animal loving vegetarian)

hiddenhome · 27/05/2013 23:50

Birds eat these insects so the bird population will decline too.

People are so stupid.

hiddenhome · 27/05/2013 23:51

Not hysterical just fed up that nobody even cares enough to understand why things need to be preserved Hmm

ImABadGirl · 27/05/2013 23:52

it matters to me, think of all 5he things that feed on bugs, hedgehogs etc, it's a sad state of affairs and no one seems to care

my middle daughter can't stand bugs of any description, she shrieks if she sees an ant. She'd have squished it, and I wouldn't have batted an eyelid. Call me a cruel insect murderer, go on!

ImABadGirl · 27/05/2013 23:55

do you take her to country parks?

OP posts:
stepawayfromthescreen · 27/05/2013 23:57

I take her all over the shop, including country parks, yes!
I find I can't get excited about insect rights however, they're right at the bottom of the food chain in my world.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 27/05/2013 23:57

But the point is, just because it matters to you, you dont have the right to have a go at a stranger over it.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 27/05/2013 23:58

People are so stupid.

Yes they really are. :)

BackOnlyBriefly · 27/05/2013 23:59

"Birds eat these insects" oh no! Maybe we should kill the birds to protect the insects.

Better still how about if everyone who cares adopts an insect and takes it home.

Shallistopnow · 27/05/2013 23:59

Perhaps once our food supply is threatened due to lack of insects to pollinate plants the ignorant people on here will care. Good on you OP for telling her, I hope I would do the same even though it would embarrass my daughter and make me feel like a grumbling old bag.

hiddenhome · 27/05/2013 23:59

You must be so proud of her neurosis. Did this take a lot of effort to cultivate? Hmm

I keep tarantulas and snakes and my dc are growing up to respect creatures not have screaming fits if they cop so much as a tiny ant Hmm

AKissIsNotAContract · 27/05/2013 23:59

Are you a vegan OP? If not then I really can't understand your argument.

hiddenhome · 28/05/2013 00:00

You should know wannabe

Sparklypinknails · 28/05/2013 00:00

This thread wins my award for lol-thread of the day.

BackOnlyBriefly · 28/05/2013 00:01

Neurosis? pot/kettle?

Sparklypinknails · 28/05/2013 00:01

Oh and you were definitely being unreasonable to call her a "girl". We aren't children in our twenties dontcha know!

ImABadGirl · 28/05/2013 00:01

not a vegan, don't really see what that has to do with it?

OP posts:
SPsCliffingAllOverMN · 28/05/2013 00:01

I helped a snail the other day if that balances out my ant mass murder.

Even the toddler stands on ants. Nothing else though. He had a spider that lived in his buzz Lightyear tent called Pedro.

stepawayfromthescreen · 28/05/2013 00:01

yes, I deliberately 'cultivated' her fear of insects! Because I have nothing better to do! Jeez, you couldn't make this shit up, you really couldn't...

wannabedomesticgoddess · 28/05/2013 00:01

So your only arguement is that I am stupid?

How mature and informed.

Shallistopnow · 28/05/2013 00:02

Wannabe'll argue over anything. Devil's advocate. Keeps the thread going I s'pose.

pumpkinsweetie · 28/05/2013 00:02

It was a dragonfly not a dog...

ImABadGirl · 28/05/2013 00:02
