To think a lot of the women on The Apprentice look...

....a bit porn star-y? Masses of fake hair, nails, loads of make up, lip gloss. Yikes! I don't know any senior women at work who look remotely like that.

Oh, and Karen Brady has upgraded her hair stylist this season, no?

Um, I know it's all fairly contrived and the contestants are a bunch of pricks, but why do we have a thread devoted to ripping the women to shreds based on the way they look, with barely a comment on the men, who, lets face it, have no idea how to dress appropriately for the scenario either (sharp tailoring at a beer festival anyone?)

forkOff - because the women are more awful than the men.

If you read the live threads when it airs, ForkOff, I think you will find ample criticism of the male contestants' appearance Grin

Trewfact there Relaxed

The men are gold plated nobbers, but they generally aren't trying to win it by wearing their hooker heels in the boardroom.

TBH I really think the women's 'style' is far worse than the men's in this series.

And believe me I'm an equal opportunities slagger offer.

The men are not quite so.... well, looking as if they're trying quite as hard. I suppose its because they wear suits and not make up, don't dye their hair... (Pk so the weird eyebrows are a but hmmmm).

The women do seem to be very concerned with looking, well I'm not sure what. When I started working it was drummed into me that you wore a suit, didn't flash the flesh or wear too much make up or bling in business, or you wouldn't be taken seriously. One female boss sent her secretary home because she was wearing trousers!

I don't think that they have been chosen because they are serious contenders an business people or entrepreneurs. Most of them do not appear to be serious business people. There's a hell of a lot of difference between working for yourself and being a business person. They have been chosen because they are, mainly, pretty and have 'personality' (ie no listening skills, and the ability to start a fight in an empty room).

The blokes aren't much better to be honest.

I thought the secret task was who could look most like a blow up doll,

that guy was being a jolly good sport joining in.

you probably don't work in the right industry. Marketing and sales is all about image

That goes a long way to explain why we are in such a deep recession .

Oh, it's definitely no longer a serious attempt to find a good business person. It's about promoting business to young people (Lord Shuggar is big into this) through glamour and humour, by targeting reality tv viewers. So controversy and cock-ups are the order of the day, and eye candy is an essential element.

Maybe they look like that if they were marketing or selling cosmetics or plastic surgery! Not in my line...

Good grief, these women are absolutely ghastly, so cheap and utterly vulgar.
The only 'image' they convey are that of a £5 prostitute.

I think KB and rebecca both look particulary lovely. Francessca is really familiar- has she been on tv previously?

The Apprentics used to be a good programme way back when.

Uzma is unfortunately not someone who's a good advert for her make-up business, at all. Of course she's entitled to look however she likes, but the pale foundation, blonde hair, blue contacts look awfully like she's uncomfortable with her heritage?

Some of the women this year do have too much tan/foundation/fake hair this year, I think they'd look a lot better if they toned it down a bit but they all seem successful so whatever works for them.

Alex's eyebrows is all i'm going to say about the men.....

Rebecca looked so much nicer in the casual shot at the house right at the end last night, I think if she lost the harsh lip liner and eyeliner and perhaps softened the hair up a bit she'd be perfect.

She is very good at sales though from what i've seen so far

I really want to see their actual CVs. Their descriptions are so wooly on the website.

Kim247, have you forgotten that Katie Hopkins? Or the I e whose accent would go comedy Irish the minute she stepped into the boardroom?!

I can't recall a series where the men were quite so, er, groomed. It's all artful beards and hair.

It's not really about how they look - it's more that the way they've chosen to dress and make themselves up seems to be just part of a not-particularly-appealing package.

There's nothing wrong with choosing to wear makeup, or fashionable clothes.

But these women are painted up like clowns, trussed up in the tightest, shortest suits they can fit into, with the most impractical footwear known to man, and hair constantly flapping around their faces.
And shrieking at each other like a bunch of pre-schoolers.

They don't seem to have any respect for themselves, or confidence in their skills and abilities - it's all about dressing for the camera and out-screaming one another.

It's like they are trying to live up to every male stereotype of women in business.

They could do a lot worse than to look at Karren, and how she presents herself.

The dark-haired pharmacuetical saleswoman looked better after she had lost the eyemakeup to a bout of crying last week

But they were chosen by someone to fulfil the public's prejudices..

Report
kungfupannda · 16/05/2013 21:44

Of course, but they seem to be doing their best to live up to it.

Just a bit less clown-makeup, and a conscious effort to speak, rather than screech, would make a massive difference.

I would have the greatest of difficulty in taking any of them remotely seriously if they rocked up in our office to do work experience, or to present to us.
