...to think people can type in full without needing so many Acronyms?

BestParentEver · 16/05/2013 20:16

Its taken me long enough to learn LMAO, LOL, WTF, FTW, BUTTHURT...

But this site has its own list of acronyms

SD
HD
DH
DS
PS3
DD
MIL/MILF?
TT
DP
DW
DK
CC
BCC
FU
SU
STI
PS
PPS
KK

Seriously is it too tough to type "my daughter is the devil re-incarnated" or "husband's snoring is frightening the cat" instead of:

"MD is the D re-incarnated"

"H's snoring is F'ing the cat"

Seriously? I'm sure there is a dictionary somewhere here that I can learn all these new acronyms... but I have enough problems remembering my frikking postcode.

AIBTUMDFFU?
(Am I being totally unreasonable, my dear fellow forum users?)

You are being unreasonable.

Is anybody else getting PM'd to thank for posting?
VSB.
Very Strange Behaviour.

ClaraOswald · 16/05/2013 22:13

Yes, I did. :)

WilmaFingerdoo · 16/05/2013 22:16

Really? Have not seen half of those used on here.

Oh good Clara, I thought i was being stalked.

ShellyBoobs · 16/05/2013 22:27

YANBU.

It drives me round the fucking bend when people start with DF, DN and BF.

People then have to waste time working out if DF is father or fiance, DN is nephew or niece and BF is boyfriend or best friend.

squoosh · 16/05/2013 22:27

Maybe she's just PMing to be friendly?

ClaraOswald · 16/05/2013 22:32

sorry, my comment was to shaky. My inbox has had nowt.

WilsonFrickett · 16/05/2013 22:32

You know, for someone who doesn't like the site you've spent an awfully long time trolling round for acronyms.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/05/2013 22:49

BestParentEver - most of the acronyms you quoted are not core to posting on Mumsnet. If you start off knowing that dd is dear daughter, ds is dear son, dh is dear husband, dp, dear partner, MIL is mother in law, FIL is father in law and PIL is parents in law, the rest will just come. I found that most made sense in context, and if they didn't, I either asked or looked them up in the acronyms list.

You don't have to use the acronyms if you don't want to - but most people seem to find it easier, especially if they are posting from their phones, as many do.

Anyhow - this is a wonderful, caring, funny, supportive, acerbic and forthright site, and I have made some wonderful friends through here. I've had support with my depression issues, have been part of making blankets for mumsnetters who have suffered bereavement and for sick children in Yorkhill Hospital. I've had good advice, and have laughed until I have wept at some threads - go and check out some of the threads in Classics, there are some absolute blinders in there.

I can particularly recommend the spray painted pigeon, the unusual death of a spider, the itchy vagine with the best name-change fail, and I lied to my son and he has found out.

Shaky · 16/05/2013 22:51

Shock Shock Shock

REALLY?

OMG! Nobody disrespects Olivia round here. An "Ahem" from Olivia is equivalent to "gavel"

Shaky · 16/05/2013 22:52
WilmaFingerdoo · 16/05/2013 22:54

Oh the spray painted pigeon Grin

Bloody loved that one

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/05/2013 22:55

Oops - I forgot this one - if my 3 year old had access to AIBU, Ohh dear, and TheSecondComing's moment of shame at the swimming pool.

BrianCoxandTheTempleofDOOM · 16/05/2013 22:59

do you know what really gets on my tits?

Piss boring, pointless posts.

HTH.

sashh · 17/05/2013 07:42

None of those are acronyms though, apart from MIL and MILF so yes you are being unreasonable by not knowing the difference between an acronym an initialisation or an abbreviation.
