...to think people can type in full without needing so many Acronyms?

BestParentEver · 16/05/2013 20:16

Its taken me long enough to learn LMAO, LOL, WTF, FTW, BUTTHURT...

But this site has its own list of acronyms

SD
HD
DH
DS
PS3
DD
MIL/MILF?
TT
DP
DW
DK
CC
BCC
FU
SU
STI
PS
PPS
KK

Seriously is it too tough to type "my daughter is the devil re-incarnated" or "husband's snoring is frightening the cat" instead of:

"MD is the D re-incarnated"

"H's snoring is F'ing the cat"

Seriously? I'm sure there is a dictionary somewhere here that I can learn all these new acronyms... but I have enough problems remembering my frikking postcode.

AIBTUMDFFU?
(Am I being totally unreasonable, my dear fellow forum users?)

Shock oooooooh I NEVER did!

She's a potty mouth is LRD

LRDtheFeministDragon · 16/05/2013 21:15

Ahhh, but there is another LRD.

She's Little Red Dinosaur. I was on another thread with her a while back.

BlackeyedSusan · 16/05/2013 21:16

imo op yabvu.

Xiaoxiong · 16/05/2013 21:16

OP, you have hit upon the shared language that makes up part of the culture of Mumsnet.

Culture is defined as the shared patterns of behaviors and interactions, cognitive constructs, and affective understanding that are learned through a process of socialization. These shared patterns identify the members of a culture group while also distinguishing those of another group. (Definition from my language acquisition textbook from college).

The understanding of the nuances distinguishing "TTC" from "SWI", or saying "fanjo" rather than "vulva" or recognising that SAHD is the correct corollary to SAHM, for instance, and subsequent correct usage on threads, marks one out as a member of the shared culture of Mumsnet.

You're going through the process of socialization right now - embrace it! There are a lot more men here than you think as well.

KurriKurri · 16/05/2013 21:17

One of the acronyms/initialisms on the first post is of my posting name.

Why is there an acronym of me on here?

What have I done that people need to talk about me?

I'm feeling paranoid (can we have an acronym for that? IFP)

Or does it refer to Keira Knightly? (even worse - people are not talking about me, they are talking about Keira Knightly Shock)

LittleBearPad · 16/05/2013 21:17

You are male. You are also not half as amusing as you think you are.

meditrina · 16/05/2013 21:17

SALT (in capitals) isn't a seasoning, and for those who need it it is important therapy. It's also not a MN acronym (unless MNHQ has also been running the NHS for the last decade or two).

HoneyDragon · 16/05/2013 21:18

I did seen it was you LRD, with your flamey nose and scaley butt. You wait till Olivia's back, you're going dahn.

OliviaMMumsnet · 16/05/2013 21:20

Ahem.

Xiaoxiong · 16/05/2013 21:21

The need for socialization is also why a period of lurking to learn these things before posting is useful. I lurked for at least a few months so I knew what was expected (full sentences and correct spelling and grammar, apart from recognised misspellings eg. "luffly" and the many acronyms you've already identified).

HoneyDragon · 16/05/2013 21:23

Fishermans Friend FF, Olivia?

LRDtheFeministDragon · 16/05/2013 21:25
Sad

And all that olive oil the S&B ladies told me to rub into it.

At least I'm not reduced to wearing lederhosen.

HoneyDragon · 16/05/2013 21:26

Lederhosen are cool. Fact.

AvrilPoisson · 16/05/2013 21:27

Heheh- thanks boobies not been batted for ages (you changed the URL you pesky woman!)

BPE No, this doesn't bother us- if it did, I'm pretty sure we'd have lobbied MNHQ for changes before now!

I just get a little tired of people coming here and man splaining how we're doing it al wrong... Hmm

Please enjoy MN- it's a lot of fun here, very helpful, just don't go changing it.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 16/05/2013 21:27

Yes, dear.

Do we need an acronym for patronizing pat now?
Grin

HoneyDragon · 16/05/2013 21:29

Hmm grr.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 16/05/2013 21:30

olivia, can we please have a smile with a halo so I can better piss of honeydragon? Pretty please?

BestParentEver · 16/05/2013 21:34

Thanks Xiaoxiao (XX?) yeah definitely is an MN thing, annoyingly I'm getting the hang of the very thing I've just ranted BU about. lol "fanjo" that sounds too cheery to be what I just googled! :O

BearPad, I'm sorry if I've annoyed you in any way, that wasn't the intention of my posts or my profile.

You don't have to use them. I don't and I chat along just fine.

HoneyDragon · 16/05/2013 21:42
