Any police or criminal lawyers out there? Wwyd?

Not name changed, maybe I should. Thinking about something horrible. Need advice of the MN kind.

Someone has screwed my family over in business. Been the worst kind of grasping self interested evil person. Taken everything they can then turned round and stabbed us all in the back.

The thing is I've found out this person has broken the law. They are a speed freak and given to driving too fast. Not just 35 in a 30 zone. Like over 100mph all the time. At least 3 times they have persuaded family members or paid friend's to take points for them. They'd have a licence ban by now if not.

I wondered if I could report this and if so to whom? I know that speed cameras take photos so they can prove who was speeding. I don't know if the record would still be kept. if we could tell the police would this person would get a licence ban & a criminal record?

Leaving aside the morality of this, which I'd still think hard about, is it even practical?

Is there any proof as I doubt police would go out of their way to find proof.

It's not really practical without proof. The photos don't really identify the driver.

The only proof I can think is the record of this persons mother and grandmother speeding - and the points they took on those dates. If the police looked back at speed camera photos they'd see it was this other person.

I don't know who out of friends has taken points for money but I might be able to find out.

I know the police won't really care. I am nervous about being on aibu with this. I'm more given to turning the other cheek. Its good to fantasise about 'getting' this person because they probably deserve it!

The mother in this example is as bad as the speeding person.

The mother has encouraged this person in their lying cheating behaviour & tried to cover for her in her lies.

I would report him next time you see him speeding and give the police his reg plate number.

Other proof we have really drags my family into it: in a fantasy world I can get testimony of her now ex boyfriend (she cheated on him too, as well as being a con artist in business). We also have the work cars tracked so we can show how she speeds. It verifiable by an outside company that runs the business car trackers.

I don't know that the police wouldn't take it seriously... In the light of the Chris Huhne/Vicky Pryce debacle, they might be more interested in bringing such cases to court than formerly.

I don't know how long the camera records are kept but I would think maybe 3-6 years to see out whatever statute of limitations may apply.

You could report it on 101 and they may make an appointment to see you. You'd have to be willing to provide a statement detailing all you know and be willing to attend court. I don't know if the speed cameras would be of any use due to when the offences were, without them the people who took the points would have to be persuaded to change their story now opening themselves to prosecution. You could go down the route of concerned company owner with the trackers on your vehicles but I don't know if that will work as everything for speed enforcement has to be (difficult word I can't remember before I finish my first tea of the day but its on the tip of my tongue)

I was under the impression that photo is taken from the number plate and not the driver but could be wrong.

I figured huhne/ price got made an example of. It's not like they can lock up everyone for doing this kind of thing. Mind you, the way she drives she could well kill herself or someone else. I would not want that.

Calibrated! That's the blinking word. I think you're right about huhne and price but it worked in that way because they were the only people involved. With the scenario you've explained it seems it would involve a few people bubbling themselves up

It depends on the camera which why they take the picture sometimes when you ask for evidence when you opt for court they can get hold of a picture of the front of the car which will show the driver

It's a photo of the car Mondrian. I've seen a pic from a speedcam, as hubby and I share driving duties and often swap on long journeys - I was clearly in the passenger seat at the time!

Wouldn't be much good in some cases, eg if the sun visor is down the face is not clearly identifiable. And the quality isn't fantastic.

Numberplate photo is for parking offences I think (that one WAS me, but overturned on appeal).

Hissy I know what you mean. I keep thinking about 'He who goes out to get revenge must first dig two graves, one for himself' I'm paraphrasing.

This thread is making me realise it's not something I can tip off police about. It would involve my family more. I don't know the family would do it if it came down to it. I'm wary that if the family did act then it would backfire on us.

This woman has already stabbed us in the back from us being lovely to her and giving her everything. I don't know how much worse she would be to us if we tried to get her in this way!

As much as this person my deserve to be reported, do you really want to get into something like this? You would probably end up feeling even worse if nothing came from your report, which may well happen.

Not becuase they fucked you over but becuase there is a moral obligation to get shitheads like that off the road before they maim or kill somebody due to their stupidity, ignorance, selfishness and question mark over their ability to understand basic physics cos they are just so in love with the immagined caperbilities of their reflexes.

If the police do nothing due to lack of evidence at the very least the driver will have a marked card due to a written complaint at an earlier date if anybody else comes forward. Alternatively they might be inclined to double check speed camera photos the next time a ticket is produced to make sure that the claimed driver really was behind the wheel.

I didn't really want to report her, have her know we've reported her then it fail anyway.

Turns out she's been bragging she should have lost her licence twice over. Her mum took 2 sets of points & her gran one set. All in last 2/2.5 years.
