I need to vent. Why does it seem the world and his wife has an opinion on your flippin buggy!!
I am looking to buy (from Gps as a present) 7 month old Dd a new buggy. I love the bugaboos but i just dont think i can afford a decent one so ive been looking at different styles for her.
No matter what i pick it seems to come under fire. So i thought sod it, im going with what WE like!!

WE like a Quinny Buzz 3, in black for £100. I think unpon research this is good?
Now ive just heard i will look chavvy, they are cheap and naff, common and nasty.
WELL im buying it arent i? Cant people just be nice and non judgey???

Please dont flame me for this because i do know peoples opinions get to me too much. Could you suggest a suitable response please? Also what you think of the Quinny!

AIBU to still even look at the Quinny?
or AIBU to give a shit on thoughts?

I had a carry cot on wheels, then a Maclaren from Argos.

Sparklingbrook · 08/05/2013 17:02

I had some travel system then a Maclaren from Argos usual. Grin Loved that Maclaren-so light.

DontmindifIdo · 08/05/2013 17:03

wishful - amongst my NCT group and 'mummy friends' it seems the norm has been for grandparents to buy the pram and want to buy a "proper one" - the iCandys tends to fit the bill as it you can get a "proper pram top" from newborn rather than just reclining a seat IYSWIM. My PIL bought ours, even though we culd afford to buy one, but it seemed important to MIL that they got a good pram/buggy that would last us so that's what we got.

However, now expecting DC2 and while the buggy is still going strong, i'm shamelessly going to ask if anyone can recommend anything other than a bugaboo bee that can be rear facing and fold in one piece. (Can't justify the cost of a bugaboo when I have a perfectly good iCandy Cherry from DC1, but would like something that folds in one piece for ease, also have a McClaren but barely used it because it's forward facing, DS didn't like being forward facing and I found it was too hard to walk long distances pushing it compared to the iCandy - it's noticably harder work to push)

KatieScarlett2833 · 08/05/2013 17:05

My mamas and papas pram had wicker sides. WTF was I thinking? Grin

Autumn12 · 08/05/2013 17:07

I have bought the Bugaboo Cameleon and have also been surprised at how "passionately" some people feel about it. One of my male colleagues is totally enraged that I would spend so much on something that just needs to get my baby from A to B.

It actually amuses me that he cares so much! I don't care what prams people have. We bought the one we liked, and because the crazy high resale value means that we will get a large chunk of money back when we come to sell it in a couple of years

diddl · 08/05/2013 17:15

I do find the small swivel wheels odd on pushchairs/prams.

But other than that I really couldn't care.

I picked a pram for me-big fixed wheels & suspension as I knew I would be walking everywhere.

MsJupiterJones · 08/05/2013 17:18

mytits I think we have the same pram. I thought the trees were cool too and they make DS go to sleep watching them.

DontmindifIdo · 08/05/2013 17:18

Autumn - If you use the bus or car to go most places, then the type of buggy isn't as important (beyond making sure it fits in the car), whereas if you are someone who walks a lot then it's worth it. If you walk alot, "cost per mile" your bugaboo could cost you about the same as someone who has a McClaren in the boot of a car and drives most places.

I also had to point out to a bloke who was going on about how much my buggy cost that it cost less than his DW's handbag and only twice the cost of the shoes he was wearing. It's interesting what other people think of as "investment" and "worth the money".

csmm · 08/05/2013 17:20

I'm an inverse snob so get judgy when I see babies being pushed in designer tanks that cost as much as my mortgage. I just think 'mug'. But, I will also add that that is only in certain areas near where I live where the most important thing to people seems to be their perceived status.

With our first DC we went with charity shop prams, but after the third fell apart my mum took us to buy a new Mclaren. This time I'm investing in a better from birth pram, but choice was based on weight, maneuvering ability and price.

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 08/05/2013 17:21

I love pushchairs....I like them to do a job well.

The buzz really isn't the best on the market in its price range,it's very heavy, unwieldy, has a large fold and is an absolute cow to steer.
I generally don't care or notice what other people are pushing, but whenever I see a buzz I wonder whether the owner ever looked at anything else first...

Look at a Babyjogger versa,if you want parent facing-best thing on the market ATM.
Or the uppababy vista
Or an icandy peach or cherry (I don't much like the look, but they do push very nicely and parent face.)
Or a bugaboo bee
Or a brio go
Or a britax vigour (v old model, much better than the new britax's IMO)

Or ignore me,buy your buzz and sod everyone else, because it really doesn't matter as long as you're happy with it
but you'll regret it when you can't push it once your baby turns 18 months

ChunkyPickle · 08/05/2013 17:25

Don't care about which buggy (I sling, GPs use an ancient, second hand Quinny something or other, and somewhere we have one of those folding deckchair things we used on a flight once)

BUT I would say that black buggies don't half get hot in the sun (the second hand Quinny was once black - now is a kind of faded charcoal grey). - a paler colour might be a better idea (although that brings it's own staining issues I suppose)

The Quinny (SX maybe?) is quite the workhorse though - solid, easy to push, looks comfortable for DS etc. so on that basis I would recommend it.

Autumn12 · 08/05/2013 17:30

DontmindifIdo - Exactly.

loofet · 08/05/2013 17:35

I haven't used a buggy for well over a year now, DC3 goes in the Ergo carrier. But when I did I always had a couple of requirements- baby had to face me, i'm too paranoid to have them facing away/I like to talk to them as we walk along and it had to have a carrycot option for small baby stage. The cheaper buggies don't have either ime. The cheaper ones tend to be the 'umbrella' style which I really don't like seeing small babies in. Personally I think small babies should be laid down in a carrycot SO I had to spend extra. I could justify the price I paid though because iCandy's sell on for a good price on ebay which ours did AND we don't drive so our buggy always got a lot of use.

I only judge if a buggy looks to be falling apart or if the kid in it is so big their feet are walking along the floor with it trying to keep up Grin I used to be a lot worse at judging buggy appearance but since I quit using one I don't really notice. Most people use Quinny's btw, seem to be the most common brand so you'd be in good company.

Floggingmolly · 08/05/2013 17:39

Through three children; nobody has ever commented on the buggies I used. I'd never notice anyone else's either. Who on earth is making all these judgey comments, and are you actually inviting them by discussing your choice with all and sundry? Confused
Buy the one you want; I'll bet nobody takes the slightest notice of it if it's not constantly brought to their attention.

KevinFoley · 08/05/2013 17:44

i would never think about judging a cheap pram. But...I do snigger a bit at those white leather and lace jobbies and the giant travel system tanks.

Wishfulmakeupping · 08/05/2013 17:45

Read the second post and you will see what I'm trying to say obviously not getting my point across very well- long and short of it is I really want a icandy too but I can't justify that kind of money on 1 item for baby when there are other necessary items to buy even though we have a good income. Again. Only talking about people I know personally not generalising!

jacks365 · 08/05/2013 17:58

I used a big coach built big wheeled tank when dd was a newborn but i walk everywhere. I then got a maclaren for convenience but realised i needed to replace my big one as the maclaren just doesn't carry enough shopping. I had a good look round and researched what i wanted and got a list of 3 that would suit me then it was a question of how much. I bought a Jane rider 2nd hand in perfect condition. All 3 were second hand and cost less than £200 in total. They are right for me, my daughter and my lifestyle and nothing else matters.

Sparklingbrook · 08/05/2013 18:00

I had a three wheeled pushchair at one point. Puncture after puncture. Sad

sweetestcup · 08/05/2013 18:10

Kevin I know the exact ones you mean! When I was pram shopping for DS who's now 5 they seemed to be really popular in a town near me, hence the pram shop must have old thewm by the pramload. I would never judge by reason of chaviness or anything like that, I just used to wonder why people could have such appalling taste, they were a hideous white ?leatherette? with very fancy frills.

HoneyDragon · 08/05/2013 18:14

I would not judge you for buying a buzz.

I judge the fuck of Quinny for designing a puchchair with a unnecessarily wide rear that turns it into an unwieldy inadvertently shop lifting bastard as soon as you take it into any kind of shop.

MakeItUpAsYouGoAlong · 08/05/2013 18:15

That's a great post honey Wink

Oh dear. I am obsessed with pushchairs. Everywhere we go it is a stealth buggy spotting exercise on my part.

I judge - yes I do. But not the (often very nice looking) people with naff buggies. Oh no. I judge the posers. And that's not based solely on their buggy.

You can see someone with a Joolz Day and think, ah, lovely people, friendly, smiley. They just want to best one they can find for their baby. And then you can see someone with an Icandy and think, Oh my God you're ignoring your baby, you're dressed in ridiculous high heels, are smoking, swearing...iyswim it ain't about the pram, it's about what you do wiv it Smile

And conversely you see someone with a Graco that's seen better years and they look nice, or they look horrid, but seriously OP - the Buzz is so ubiquitous t hat I assume it's a good'un and don't even blink.

From a distance though it does look blooming wide?

HoneyDragon · 08/05/2013 18:26

I borrowed my friends baby and it came with the buzz. Further baby stealing occurred without my stealing the pushchair too Grin

RooneyMara · 08/05/2013 18:27

Oh I saw a corker today though, I have to admit, and went Shock because it was one of those Eichorn copies wicker ones, in white, with pink frilly charms and ruffles and ribbons and stuff hanging all round the front.

It was, I have to say, hideous.

HoneyDragon · 08/05/2013 18:28

My favourite pushchair was my Britax Vigour as the basket underneath had a built in wine carrier. Clever pushchair.
