I need to vent. Why does it seem the world and his wife has an opinion on your flippin buggy!!
I am looking to buy (from Gps as a present) 7 month old Dd a new buggy. I love the bugaboos but i just dont think i can afford a decent one so ive been looking at different styles for her.
No matter what i pick it seems to come under fire. So i thought sod it, im going with what WE like!!

WE like a Quinny Buzz 3, in black for £100. I think unpon research this is good?
Now ive just heard i will look chavvy, they are cheap and naff, common and nasty.
WELL im buying it arent i? Cant people just be nice and non judgey???

Please dont flame me for this because i do know peoples opinions get to me too much. Could you suggest a suitable response please? Also what you think of the Quinny!

AIBU to still even look at the Quinny?
or AIBU to give a shit on thoughts?

I have a Quinny Zapp and it's fantastic. So light and easy to steer. I have no frickin idea why other people are so judgmental about what brand of buggy you buy, I didn't even know it was a 'thing' until I had DS 3 months ago. It seems ridiculous and petty. Would they be that openly rude about your choice of car? Or shoes??
Sorry for rant, have just had someone (Bugaboo owner) be very rude about my lovely buggy, along the lines of, you're too stingy to buy your baby a decent buggyAngryAngryAngryAngry.
Buy the Quinny and save your back!

No I'm not. They are wholly uninteresting to me. I wasn't even that bothered about getting my ds1's. They're all much of a muchness tbh. Cheap ones, expensive ones. So long as the wheels go round eh?

Put it this way - I have never coveted a pushchair. Bugaboos look wanky, and all the others look the same.

Chavy really?!

I have a Cosatto Supa Cat Walk, I get nothing but nice comments about it but people know when I'm coming, but I wouldn't give a shit if people didn't like it. Plus it's fuffing hilarious to see my twat of an ex pushing her in it.

A pram is a pram. I bought mine because it had pictures of trees on it and I thought it looked pretty cool. Couldn't give a shit about the make or anything and always do a slow head tilt when people try to engage me in conversations about them.

DH has a friend who's partner harps on about her bugaboo being the rolls Royce of the pram world or something. Whatever, mines green and matches my lounge.

The only pram-related thing I get judgey about is when someone feels it necessary to spend £1000 plus on a buggy but doesn't seem capable of actually talking to the baby.

I couldn't give a shit about other people's buggies, so long as they're clean, safe and appropriate for the child.

Don't worry,go with your guts...
I've bought Baby StyleLux for 20 quid for my baby...
The reason was my baby's comfort not the look.I thought ab out Buzz, however after looking/touching/checking in the shops I really dislike the seat as it looks shallow and does not recline flat(legs go up as well)...
But it may be just me....;)

I've got a buzz, and a zapp. Both bought in 2007, both still being used for dc2.

Get some bike slime for the air tyres though, cuts down dramatically on the number of punctures!

I have a third hand, ancient bugaboo and it's heavy and unwieldy. The catches and wheels get stuck loads. I like it because it cost me £0 but I'd prefer a cheaper, newer pram.

I hope no-one judges me for it!

I spent £40 on an off roady type one with big comfy wheels. It lives in the boot of my car and is lucky to come out once a fortnight.

I use a sling, and no longer get road rage battling round stupid people in shops.

Dont worry what other people think its a mode of transport!! It doesn't make your baby happier, healthier or more intelligent!!
I do admit to laugh at teenage mums who always seem to have the most expensive buggies!!

The one and only time I have been judgy about a pram/buggy is my friends DP who is insisting that they spend nearly a grand on a ilollipop/sherbet/fuckknows.

He has just been made redundant and it will swallow up nearly all of his final wage.

He asked, I offered my opinion and there my interest ended

I have a Bugaboo Bee and I love it. It's light and easy to fold. I hate big, bulky plasticky prams and couldn't care less if anyone is bothered by that.

My ds used his buggy for 9 months, even then it was barely used only on a Sunday really. If i had bought a £1000 one I'd have been mortified at the lack of use for the money. As it turned out it was fab it fitted In my tiny boot was easy to put up and down and was £95.
So, buy the one you like, the one that does the job needed. Stuff everyone else. It's your pennies and your baby.

I'm old I wouldn't know a quinny bugaboo zapp if it ran me over.

I couldn't care less and know nothing about pushchairs. I plan to borrow one to start with and if it's too big/small/high/low/rough to push then I'll see about getting one more comfortable for me and the baby... otherwise, i'll be spending my money on tea and cake more important stuff.

You are being unreasonable not to provide a link to said buggy, so I can judge whether I would judge without having to Google it first. I have no idea what it looks like or what it does.

I would judge you if you were trying to get one of those massive carriage built Silver Crosses onto my bus. There my interest lives and dies in other people's buggies. Do what you want!

Needaholiday I was flabbergasted. The person in question said it to DH who told me...we have quite a nice car and the gist was, you buy yourselves a nice car but a crap buggy for your baby. Maybe I should start a AIBU thread about wanting to smash this person's head into a wall?!

Omnishambolic · 08/05/2013 16:21

I cannot imagine what a chavvy pram would look like btw. Does it have its ears pierced? Is it in fake Burburry check? Do you have to dress like Vicky Pollard to push one?

I had a £300 mountain buggy and a £15 Mothercare special with a damaged handle (thank you BA). The Mountain buggy had a cheep generic for muff and either a totally daft white parasol of a muslin square and safety pin sun visor depending on the wind.

Buggies aren't fashion accessories they are there to do a job. Ie survive the Cornish coast path and beaches and fit in the footwell on the odd days when I needed my entire boot. Or be chucked on a plain once DD was old enough to walk most of the time.

Having now looked up the buggy in question, it looks like a black buggy, no further thoughts than that. What do you have at present though? I would be wary of getting one that doesn't fold easily at this stage, or at least being aware that you will probably want to get a Maclaren type of thing at some point in the future for ease, and then you won't use this as much as you think you will.

I'm afraid you can't win. I have a Bugaboo Bee and didn't want to buy it because I didn't want people to think that I WAS the kind of person who cares about brands of prams.

Then I realised I was being an idiot and bought one because it was the best pram for our needs. It had fuck all to do with being trendy or what not.

And where I live everyone seems to have either a Bugaboo or a Maclaren as our train station has loads of stairs and both makes of these prams are easy and light enough to nip up and down stairs.

I couldn't give a crap what pram people have, so long as they don't run over my toes or anything like that. Grin
