I need to vent. Why does it seem the world and his wife has an opinion on your flippin buggy!!
I am looking to buy (from Gps as a present) 7 month old Dd a new buggy. I love the bugaboos but i just dont think i can afford a decent one so ive been looking at different styles for her.
No matter what i pick it seems to come under fire. So i thought sod it, im going with what WE like!!

WE like a Quinny Buzz 3, in black for £100. I think unpon research this is good?
Now ive just heard i will look chavvy, they are cheap and naff, common and nasty.
WELL im buying it arent i? Cant people just be nice and non judgey???

Please dont flame me for this because i do know peoples opinions get to me too much. Could you suggest a suitable response please? Also what you think of the Quinny!

AIBU to still even look at the Quinny?
or AIBU to give a shit on thoughts?

Christ alive.make a consumer choice of pram without needing your hand held
do you like the pram,is it on budget,s it safe
that's all.i had bugaboo and they're universally derided

MummySparkle · 10/05/2013 01:08

hands up I have to admit, I am judgey about buggys. Not cheap ones, but it really gets my goat when people have clearly got bugaboos for the status symbol. Or ones that just aren't fit for purpose (too big on the bus, going for a walk with something flimsy...)

When we chose ours for DS I spent ages looking at different types online and walking past on the street. We had a list of requirements for a pram that would suit our lifestyle: has a carry cot that converts into the actual seat, chunky back wheels, can be parent facing, can be pushed with one hand. Then I set about finding the cheapest one I could that did those things. We have an Obaby Zezu and I love it. I know people look at me because I have a 'cheap' pram, but I look at them because they have spent 4 times as much as us for something that does exactly the same! Fair enough some of them may have the spare cash to do so, but the people that flaunt their expensive pushchairs really irritate me, so what that you spent all of your money on a shiny pram. I saved mine to give to DS in the future and I'm very happy with my Zezu. It may not be the prettiest one around (DH wouldn't let me get the purple spotty version...) but it does what it says on the tin.

I don't like seeing tiny babies in car seats clipped onto the buggy gram either - we were told to have DS in the car seat for no more than 45mins to start with so it wouldn't hurt his back. 15mins driving somewhere, 15mins driving back, I'd put a lot of money that they are spending more than 15mins in town. I've seen tiny babies in non-parent-facing contraptions too which makes me sad, I love talking to DS when we're out and about.

So yes I do judge, but not on brand or expense, more on suitability for purpose / comfort of child.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 10/05/2013 07:17

How do you know the difference between people that flaunt their expensive pushchairs and the ones that bought them because it was the best pram for them?

I bought my Bugaboo as it was the most practical pram for us. But no, it must be because of the name...

RooneyMara · 10/05/2013 07:34

Because there are very few people who use them for posing, and those people are obviously posing to start with even without the pram.

I mean think dark glasses, high heels, orange makeup, hair extensions, cigarette, swearing and walking around in a little 'gang' like a proper queen bee...and very unfriendly, and laughing at other people behind your hand.

That is the only sort of person I mean. Everyone else with a posh pram I assume has it because they either were bought it as a gift, or they liked it, or they wanted the best one for their needs.

Really it doesn't have much to do with the pram at all, iyswim - if someone looks horrible, I'll judge them, it's kind of incidental that they have an icandy or whatever.

rainbowfeet · 10/05/2013 07:36

I don't judge people by their prams or push chairs but I do like looking at them online & in shops!! Shock I guess like a car mad person would be about cars!!! I take pride in looking after mine & keep it clean, I have my dream one if I won the lottery!!
Bugaboo does seem to have created this type of snobbery & a generation of small businesses on eBay & Facebook where women make & sell custom accessories for them & other prams such as liners & hood bows etc...??? Plus also I've heard recently of cheap fake Bugaboos coming in the country from China!!!!! I mean wtf??!! Shock

P.s my lottery pram would be a Bugaboo bee!!! (Hangs head in shame of joining the snobbery)!!!

mumofprincess · 10/05/2013 07:38

I dont give a shit about what people think in such matters. As long as it is the safest option I can afford for my child and QUINNY is that, I dont care.
My DH and I had an extensive research before purchasing a pushchair and desided Quinny buzz with a maxi cosi carseat that fits on the pusshchair will be the best option for our baby. The Bugaboo is an extremely overpiced option and quite frankly having seen it at many of my friends, is quite unfunctional. During the 0-9 months period I simply used the Quinny base and the maxi cosi car seat and were very confortable and safe for a small baby. Afterwards (my DD is now 3yo) we used the buzz seat, my DD took many naps there while strolling around and loved it. I checked with the paediatrician too, who said he finds the padding very good for small babies. We chose the 3wheel option and while it is indeed wide it gave me safety and stability when moving arround and believe me we move a lot! I purchased a cheep stroller later on in order to make things easier as i thought it will be lighter and portable, but have never used it because after using Quinny I just cant trust the stroller's thin padding and light wheels.

gazzalw · 10/05/2013 07:43

Believe it or not, around where we live, you often see young mums with Silvercross prams- totally ridiculous and out-of-place!

I think there's a whole tranche of society who likes to be a clone- we were discussing it on the A&F Thread and the status buggy is another example!

At the end of the day you want/need something that's robust and manageable and not too expensive. I actually think for our carless household, a Bugaboo might have been an excellent choice, had we had the money and large hallway in which to store it!

RooneyMara · 10/05/2013 07:55

Gazza, that'll be the travelling community I think. It's a tradition - we went to a dreadful fairground thing and every stall had a silver cross pram next to it!

gazzalw · 10/05/2013 07:56

Yes, you are right, RooneyMara!!!

PoppyAmex · 10/05/2013 08:54

So if you buy a cheap pram you're sensible and if you buy an expensive one, you're "flaunting it".

Have no idea why someone gives a shit about how I spend my money, but I can only think there might be some deep seated issues there.

I originally came on this thread to tell the OP not to worry, as surely no one would be shallow enough to judge someone on the pram they use, but she has been proved right.

Wuxiapian · 10/05/2013 09:31

I have a Quinny Buzz 3 - chose it because it's one of the few pushchairs that'll fit in our half boot - the dog owning the other half!

It folds down easily and quickly, is easy to steer and I have no complaints with it.

I am also not a chav, thank you.

PoppyAmex we're also denying our children money for the future. I mean what were we thinking?

nattnatt · 10/05/2013 09:50

Who are you talking to?!! I had a Quinny Buzz 3 for 3 years and only got rid this week to swap for a double (icandy pear) I want my Quinny back! No one every judged my choice of pram and its a totally personal thing. It does the job, the boys liked it, I could push it, fold it and do what I needed with it. Nuff said!

nancerama · 10/05/2013 09:54

I only judge filthy pushchairs smeared with crusted food.

Bit late to this party, but we had a Quinny zapp and we are vair vair posh.

flowery · 10/05/2013 10:21

Anyone who judges other people for their pram choice has waaaaay too much time on their hands imo.

And yes, can't imagine a situation where you'd discuss buggy plans with anyone in order for them to be in a position to give an opinion anyway.

chandellina · 10/05/2013 12:34

I hate the big tanks and bugaboos and feel smug that I've only ever had to have one buggy from birth for my children - a four seasons Maclaren. It isn't glamorous but it is great in buses, shops, and everywhere else.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 10/05/2013 12:43

I have a big tank of a single (I mean massive) and I have recently got the double of it from someone on a farm! (that is honestly how huge it is, I can keep a weeks shopping in the basket).

I'm sure I will get judged for the double as I already get it for the single but I adore it.

PoppyAmex · 10/05/2013 12:46

Hey Schro that's one hell of a pram, I'm mighty impressed! Even the name imposes respect Grin

PoppyAmex · 10/05/2013 12:48

"PoppyAmex we're also denying our children money for the future. I mean what were we thinking?"

*Pobble" I forgot that one, actually.

That was the weirdest attempt of guilt trip I've ever seen on MN, but it made laugh a little bit "You spent to much money on your Bugaboo instead of saving it for your children like me. Bad mother!" Grin

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 10/05/2013 12:51

Poppy It was the name that won me over in the first place, an ex friend was selling it and it turned out to be the most awesome thing ever invented. It even has a changing bag thing built into the hood and the hood covers the entire thing like a tent.

I don't care about the judgy looks I get, it's awesome. :o

PoppyAmex · 10/05/2013 12:56

I can't blame you, it looks amazing for outdoors.

I'm currently pregnant and because we're so happy with the Bugaboo Cam I had just assumed we'd get the Donkey (DD is only 1yo), but I had never heard of the Herqules before and am researching it as I type!

It looks seriously sturdy.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 10/05/2013 12:59

You would need to buy it off Ebay or Gumtree as it is discontinued. It was made by a company called Swiss Design who were taken over by EmmalJunga. It was apparently designed to withstand an avalanche!

It's not too big width wise and is very easy to fold. You can get the newborn inserts as well and big comfy cosy toes and stuff.

I would never look back from having a herqules!

I liked the Donkey but it seems very small in terms of comfort and fiddly.
