I need to vent. Why does it seem the world and his wife has an opinion on your flippin buggy!!
I am looking to buy (from Gps as a present) 7 month old Dd a new buggy. I love the bugaboos but i just dont think i can afford a decent one so ive been looking at different styles for her.
No matter what i pick it seems to come under fire. So i thought sod it, im going with what WE like!!

WE like a Quinny Buzz 3, in black for £100. I think unpon research this is good?
Now ive just heard i will look chavvy, they are cheap and naff, common and nasty.
WELL im buying it arent i? Cant people just be nice and non judgey???

Please dont flame me for this because i do know peoples opinions get to me too much. Could you suggest a suitable response please? Also what you think of the Quinny!

AIBU to still even look at the Quinny?
or AIBU to give a shit on thoughts?

I like buying pushchairs but now being on baby number 5 i am sick of them!ive always used mine every day so its made sense to go for one the better quality ones, which arent always the most expensive.

but no,i dont care what pushchair others use, dont think i even notice unless its particularly nice,i might say oh i like your pushchair wheres that from or something.

sweetestcup · 09/05/2013 15:16

ssp good god, thats like the Pauls Boutique of the pram world!

EasilyBored · 09/05/2013 15:34

I know people talk about them being a lot of money, but if you have the money to spend, I don't think it's that much to spend £500 or £600 on a pram - I mean you could potentially be using it every day for the next 3 years (or more if you have more than one child). That's quite good value in terms of price-per-push. If you have to use something every day, you might as well like it!

EasilyBored · 09/05/2013 15:34

twitchy I would put money on the new royal baby being pushed in one of those at some point!

SquirrelNuts · 09/05/2013 15:34

I've got a quinny buzz is it really considered chavvy? Sad it cost what I consider a lot of money! I love my buzz its so easy to push with 1 hand and put up and down

TalkUsernameYoudLike · 09/05/2013 15:43

I don't give a toss about pushchairs/prams/whatever. I really don't understand some peoples need of having the most expensive, fashionable one.

I have an old model of a Silver Cross and it was free, used just once and DS loves it so it's perfect.

Sure, it's a boring dark grey/blue colour and is REALLY bulky, but it does the job and saved us a ton of money Smile

DangerousBeanz · 09/05/2013 15:43

I also have a quinny buzz 3 and I'm dead middle class me, my dd eats hummus and olives and feta and everything. It cost what I thought was a lot of money but as DD is now 3.4 and it's the only buggy we had I think it was great value. It turns like a London taxi too. And she slept in the carry cot when he was tiny too. I couldn't give a monkeys if people think its chavvy- just show the chavs have sense. Grin

chillinwithmyyonis · 09/05/2013 15:45

I've got a Bugaboo Gecko which they don't make anymore, buts its far from impractical, I've used it through 2 children and practically everyday for the last 5 years. The only thing I've had to do is replace a punctured wheel at zero cost to myself. But going to the OP's point, no I don't care about other peoples pushchair, if its comfortable for you and your dc, go for it.

MakeItUpAsYouGoAlong · 09/05/2013 15:49

Update- dd is sleeping in our new red quinny in the hallway.
It's practical, light, the only handle bar I could find tall enough for me, the accesories are great! I can walk the dog and one handed push!

Makes my Zezu look like a tank.
Sleeping dd looks soooo cosy too Grin

"twitchy I would put money on the new royal baby being pushed in one of those at some point!"

Apparently they bought a light blue Bugaboo Cam, or so she told some Officer's Wives in an event.

Tutak · 09/05/2013 17:16

Overwhelmed by the insane costs and snobbery of push chair purchasing, I once fantasised about making a tv show called 'Pimp my Pushchair', in which people turned their prams into customised baby monster trucks....imagine the joys of adding high end paint finishes, massive bumpers, big bass speakers, espresso machines, vibrating mattresses, what else???...

You know what pram I want, and hoping almond on here will becabke to identify for me

They were around in the mid 80s. They had a seat that you could flip over and turn inside our to face you / face out. It folded flat. Was very light and had a plastic tray like shopping bit you could pile bags in

I think they were 80stastic colours like lemon and grey stripes

To get something that faces both ways and folds small these days you have to pay £100s. Crazy world Confused

SmellsLikeWeenSpirits · 09/05/2013 17:47

tutak I saw one in the JL catalogue the other day that had headlights and folded itself up with the touch of a button

Seriously. A babies buggy with lights and electrical bits

MoominsYonisAreScary · 09/05/2013 17:47

Tutak a pimp my pushchair page keeps coming ip on my fb

IneedAyoniNickname · 09/05/2013 18:01

There are lots of fb selling pages selling 'customised' buggy accessories. N other words someone with a sewing machine and a load of fabric is making handle covers, bumper covers, liners etc.and then selling them.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 09/05/2013 18:17

I've never heard of a Quinny being chavvy. We looked at the Zapp as a holiday buggy but it wasn't much smaller than our Bugaboo Bee and the basket is tiny.

PoppyAmex · 09/05/2013 18:35

smells this is the one you mean, it even has an ipod charger:

www.4moms.com/origami

ananikifo · 09/05/2013 19:13

I think the average person on the street wouldn't think a Quinny looks that different from an icandy or a bugaboo pushchair. Before I got pregnant I would have called them all "modern" looking and assumed they were all expensive and posh. They are all expensive to me.

That origami one looks link something DH would choose if he was in charge of choosing the pushchair. He would choose it for the iPhone charger.

Er... I dunno. I got given one. It was big and blue. Fitted lots of shopping in it. The i got a McClaren one. Fitted less shopping in it but it was lighter.
I don't care!
Should I?
Get whatever you want. I don't get it??!!

MoanyYoni · 09/05/2013 21:56

I read a lot of weird stuff on MN about the Bugaboo. Apparently, if you have one you've obviously only bought it because of the name, so you can show off, because you're a snob, because you're insecure..the list goes on.

I bought mine because it's as light as a bloody feather and can manage most terrains.

MsJupiterJones · 09/05/2013 22:31

I do think buggies should have indicators. I keep going to hit mine when turning a corner.

lol Leonie - maybe thats why I have an Origami on order because I have just traded in my convertible for a family car so my children can at last have some leg room in the backlol! Its cheaper than a new bigger convertible anyway!

There are several misconceptions here too. There are a good number of pushchairs with carrycots which are suitable for overnight sleeping but you need to check.

The Donkey is FAR from the only side by side which goes through a standard door. There is a big choice of pushchairs which will fit through a standard door way.

To the OP I am glad you got your Buzz - you were clearly happy with it to buy it. I dont think a Buzz is chavy at all, but I do agree with Frigg and others who say its one of the heaviest most cumbersome pushchairs there is - especially to carry or put into the car boot. But the air tyres make it nice to walk with. Your Zezu must be huge!! Use it and enjoy it. I have had a Buzz too - it got sold when it kept popping open in the boot of my car whenever I went over a bump!

To be honest, if you can find a pushchair which works for you, then you need never look at another pushchair again. There is usually a combination lightness, userability, good seat size, good basket size, right height handle etc. which makes the right pushchair. If its not working, then there is a HUGE choice out there to find something better. Its easier to buy a single pushchair. It is finding a double pushchair which works AND importantly that you can push, that is where the nightmare begins!

As for spending a lot of money - you buy what you want and what you can afford like anything in life. I buy and sell pushchairs all the time, and I buy wisely and sell well and the game is to try not to lose any money on them on resale. I would rather buy a better brand pushchair and resell it for similar again, than buy a cheap brand which simply gets taken to the dump. I have to say you do get what you pay for a lot of the time. There are exceptions like the Baby Joggers which are packed with features but at a reasonable price.

Chavy really describes the fabric, frame colour etc and any pushchair can be accessorised badly to produce something eye watering. I have seen some sights in my time! I am not entirely sure the new pink Buzz with bronze chassis works but theres a lot lot worse out there! I think the red and black Buzz's look quite smart TBH.
