I need to vent. Why does it seem the world and his wife has an opinion on your flippin buggy!!
I am looking to buy (from Gps as a present) 7 month old Dd a new buggy. I love the bugaboos but i just dont think i can afford a decent one so ive been looking at different styles for her.
No matter what i pick it seems to come under fire. So i thought sod it, im going with what WE like!!

WE like a Quinny Buzz 3, in black for £100. I think unpon research this is good?
Now ive just heard i will look chavvy, they are cheap and naff, common and nasty.
WELL im buying it arent i? Cant people just be nice and non judgey???

Please dont flame me for this because i do know peoples opinions get to me too much. Could you suggest a suitable response please? Also what you think of the Quinny!

AIBU to still even look at the Quinny?
or AIBU to give a shit on thoughts?

Jacks that really bugs me too. Or the people who try to get in front by pushing by the side of me.

I don't always use a chair, sometimes I'm on sticks, and occasionally (!) I walk unaided. I've been knocked to the ground 3 times this year (my balance is very compromised due to disability) and 2 of those times it was a monster buggy barging past me into the lift.

You can get my wheelchair and 2 umbrella type buggies into a lift at our local shopping centre. You can't even get one of the monster ones in beside me!

pleasestoptalking · 09/05/2013 09:29

Stop caring what people think. I certainly couldn't care less what other buggies people use.

Although saying that, I've got a double buggy which I'm a bit too attached to and do an excited wave at people when I see they have the same buggy and gush about how brilliant it is. I think I may still hold onto it when my kids have left home to push the cats about in.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 09/05/2013 09:44

So no one cares about pushchairs on this thread, unless you spend a lot of money on your pram, in which case it's ok to be all judgey. Hypocritical much?

We got a Bugaboo Bee because it suits our needs perfectly, not because of the name. Oh, and on eBay they are selling for £300+ second hand so they hold their value.

pictish · 09/05/2013 09:50

I'm not interested in how much a pram cost...I'm just saying they all look the same, apart from the Bugaboos which I think look naff...(sorry).
You're paying for the looks.

Actually I didn't pay for it at all, my ILs did.

pictish · 09/05/2013 09:54

God...I had a shudder of horror the other day when I remembered our double buggy. Like pushing a rhino around it was.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 09/05/2013 09:55

I don't know what I'll choose as a double buggy, I hate those Phil and Ted monsters. People block an entire bus with them.

PoppyAmex · 09/05/2013 09:58

I love this thought process where people claim it's nuts to judge someone by their possessions and then enter thrifty competitions (my buggy was 2 pounds! Ha but I carry my baby in an asda bag for life)

And then proceed to JUDGE people who have expensive prams! The irony Grin

I have an all black limited edition bugaboo because I love it, it suits our needs and fits comfortably in my car.

On the other hand I couldn't tell you what prams other people are using if you pointed a gun to my head, because I don't care.

MrsHelsBels74 · 09/05/2013 09:59

We have a Quinny Buzz 3 & I've never considered if they look chavvy or not, a buggy's a buggy surely?

pictish · 09/05/2013 09:59

I had a MacLaren twin techno. A side by side one that fitted through standard doorways...so much easier on the bus and shops than the Phil and Teds type or the convoy style with one in front of the other.

pictish · 09/05/2013 10:04

It was this one

Not particularly exciting, but it was small and light (compared...all doublers are cumbersome bastards) and I only paid £200 for it at the Glasgow Pram Centre.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 09/05/2013 10:07

PoppyAmex my point exactly! Does it matter if people want to spend a lot on a pram? If you can afford it, who cares?

We played with a lot of prams before deciding on our Bug Bee. It's a great city pram, I walk everywhere. And I love that it's rear and parent facing, lightweight and if I want to put it in the car it just folds down. None of this taking half of it apart to get it in the boot like with so many other prams.

We liked the all black version too but it would have been cheeky asking the ILs to splash out even more!

I have a Maclaren Quest too, for holidays and the like. It's great but my Bug is so much easier to push.

Pobble and poppy I think you are right actually, which means I do in fact judge when it comes to pushchairs!

I can add it to my long (although considerably shorter than before I had kids!) list of things that I get judgy about Grin

Bogeyface · 09/05/2013 10:49

worth having another baby for!

This isnt actually mine, but the closest picture I could find. Its my pride and joy :)

Fakebook · 09/05/2013 10:58

Interesting thread. I have an old scruffy Graco Quattro tour deluxe travel system from 2007 when dd was born. They were all the rage then. It's dirty and doesn't clean well and I'm always conscious about people judging me for putting my 1 year old in such an old pushchair.

I need to buy a double buggy for ds and the new baby and am looking at O baby or phil and teds ones. I don't give a shit if they're classed as chavvy or whatever, I choose things for practicality. If the Quinny is practical for you then just buy it.

YourMaNoBraBackOfMyCar · 09/05/2013 11:02

Do people really care? Honestly?! I have never given it a second thought. My eyes see a pink buggy and my brains going "Shall I make fajitas as they are easier but really I prefer enchilladas and lets be honest its fajitas bunged in the oven but with sauce and cheese..."

jacks365 · 09/05/2013 11:07

Bogey i have a similar one sat in the corner of my dining room. I can fit a weeks shopping for 5 in the basket even had a great big sack of potatoes once. It pushes a dream and cope with our hills brilliantly. Parting with it now she's too big is going to be hard.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 09/05/2013 11:12

I'm selling a Quinny Buzz 3 in Iron for £60, I think you should shop around and look at FB selling pages.

I'm a bit of an addict so I don't judge (but am probably judged!).

I am keeping mine Jack and fully intend to be that PITA grandma who insists on using it when I babysit instead of the "new fangled" pushchair my DD's will have spent a fortune on :o

RooneyMara · 09/05/2013 12:08

'You're paying for the looks.' In some cases yes.

In others you're paying for a product that makes your day to day life less difficult. Some pushchairs are seriously badly designed - rubbish weight distribution, fabrics that stain and aren't washable, and fade - wheels that come off and so on.

When I had my cosatto I spent the first few months trying to sell it as I felt so guilty at pending just over £200. Then as no one bought it, I started using it properly - and it was amazing.

The stuff I could carry in it, honestly - the fact ds1 was seriously wild and would climb up on it, regularly, and it never tipped - he could even stand on the back bit of the basket instead of sitting in it - and it was just super. It lasted about 4 years and in the end went to the tip as the roof fabric had gone in the middle.

I've got another one like it now, which is 10 years old but wasn't used as much as mine - I still love it.

PoppyAmex · 09/05/2013 12:30

"You're paying for the looks."
"Bugabbos are naff"
"Bugaboos are wanky"

Dude, it never cesses to amaze me how much people seem to care how I spend my hard earned money.

I wouldn't dream of making a value judgement based on anyone's home or car let alone a bloody pushchair (mostly because I don't give a shit). Why do you? Is there something missing in these people's lives?

So it's acceptable to mock an expensive purchase? It would be funny, if it wasn't so hypocritical.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 09/05/2013 12:34

Precisely. We aren't judgemental, unless your pushchair is expensive.

I bought my Bee as it suited us, nothing to do with the name or how it l
