To be devastated about Rolf...

So Rolf Harris joins the list of those who have been arrested as part of Operation Yewtree (I know this is old news elsewhere but I don't read the Australian press).

I am distraught. I love Rolf and have always thought that he was a genuinely sweet and kind man. In fact I have said in the past to DH (following other high profile arrests), that if it ever came out that Rolf was horrid I would be devastated. And now I am.

He maintains no wrong doing. I will be upset either way. If he is found guilty and I have been wrong all these years or if he is innocent and an old man is about to be dragged through the mud.

Anyone else feel all out of kilter on hearing this or AIBU and a silly nostalgic?

I can't bear the man, he's always made me feel stabby, in the same way as Amanda Holden does.
So I don't feel sad or shocked, but I do hope that he is given a fair trial rather than a trial by media.

You don't think it's terrifying that JS carried in the way he did, and was allowed to mores the point fanjo? I think it is.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 19/04/2013 17:08

no, I don't think it is "terrifying".

Wrong, yes. "Terrifying" no.

PipkinsPal · 19/04/2013 17:10

Gutted, I too love Rolf Harris have done since I was 6. FFS I've got Waltzing Matilda, 6 White Boomers and Jake the Peg on 45's.

valiumredhead · 19/04/2013 17:10

I suppose it depends if you were on the receiving end of it,I imagine the victims found it terrifying.

PipkinsPal · 19/04/2013 17:11

And I even named my rabbit after him. Sad

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 19/04/2013 17:11

Well, I am sure they did.

I have complete sympathy with them, as much as anyone else.

Doesn't mean I personally find it "terrifying".

valiumredhead · 19/04/2013 17:15

Never been able to understand his popularity at all, have always thought him weird and irritating, all those stupid faces and that panty, blowy, wobbly board music.

Can't say though I always thought he'd be perverse in the way he would be if he is guilty though, I just never liked him or could grasp what people thought was great about him.

MooneyRara · 19/04/2013 17:27

Compos, I already explained that it is simply a feeling. Are you assuming that were I called to serve on a jury I'd base my verdict on my feelings alone?

Hmm
fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 19/04/2013 17:29

I'm not just being pedantic, I generally think it is an overreaction to talk about it being "terrifying".

Each to their own, I just can't understand people thinking that, can't get head round it I suppose.

Yes..

Terrorists wanting to blow us all up could be construed as "terrifying".

Rolf Harris being allegedly a sex offender 30 years ago, not so much.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 19/04/2013 17:52

Totally separate to the fact I think it was very wrong and must be awful for the victims btw.

RebeccaMumsnet · 19/04/2013 17:54

Hi all,

Please be aware that, as far as we are aware, Rolf Harris has been arrested but not charged.

Any posts that speculate that he is guilty of any offence could be deleted.

PipkinsPal · 19/04/2013 18:18

valium - Rolf the rabbit has been dead for 10 years now. He was a wonderful, lovely little thing but my late cat would have disputed that fact after he was bitten and chased by him in a jealous rage Grin

Patchouli · 19/04/2013 18:40

I can believe it.
I know in later years he's been coming across as a national treasure, but he was creepier when he was younger. Remember those 'teach your kids to swim' ads in the 70s?

I have just watched it ever to remind myself, and nope, it's just a bearded man telling everyone to teach their kids to swim. Confused

He looks alarmingly young in it. Grin

Patchouli · 19/04/2013 19:09

No not particularly that ad - just him at that time, during those years on tv. I'm in the 'he was a bit weird' camp rather than the 'he was sweet and kind'.
