To be devastated about Rolf...

GiddyStars · 19/04/2013 10:42

So Rolf Harris joins the list of those who have been arrested as part of Operation Yewtree (I know this is old news elsewhere but I don't read the Australian press).

I am distraught. I love Rolf and have always thought that he was a genuinely sweet and kind man. In fact I have said in the past to DH (following other high profile arrests), that if it ever came out that Rolf was horrid I would be devastated. And now I am.

He maintains no wrong doing. I will be upset either way. If he is found guilty and I have been wrong all these years or if he is innocent and an old man is about to be dragged through the mud.

Anyone else feel all out of kilter on hearing this or AIBU and a silly nostalgic?

you are right pickled ginger but I think that is what makes it shocking even if you dont know or like these famous faces the fact that they could do something so shocking then smile and entertain us is really sinister imo

saffronwblue · 19/04/2013 11:04

First I'd heard of it. Awful if it is true and awful if it is not true. He went to school with my FiL.

gazzalw · 19/04/2013 11:04

It's beginning to seem that almost anyone famous in the 1970s/80s, who had access to children in a professional capacity, was in it for their own nefarious gains ;-(. Hope the Blue Peter brigade are all 'wholesome' and above board....

It's totally shocking but if you grew up in that era I'm sure just about all of you will have tales of either flashers', or 'pervy' practices by friends' dads, teachers, librarians etc..... I'm not necessarily talking full-scale abuse but 'dodgy' behaviour - SIL was encouraged to sit on the knee of her best friend's dad when she was about 15 (!!!), DW was touched up by the school librarian etc....

It is almost as if it was seen as 'normal' behaviour...Sad

MurderOfGoths · 19/04/2013 11:05

"I've heard he's not very nice in the flesh."

I've always heard the opposite

wonderingsoul · 19/04/2013 11:05

pick your right.. but it doesnt stop the fact they fooled MILLIONS of people into thinking they where decent humans. and that must stir up a lot of emotions.

Annoyed101 · 19/04/2013 11:06

Please dont mention othe people on these threads, that is how rumours start and damage can be done.

Squigglypig · 19/04/2013 11:08

him

livinginwonderland · 19/04/2013 11:08

i always felt there was something off about him. i never liked him (even as a kid) even though my dad loved him and watched all his shows. i have also heard that he's not very pleasant in real life.

I heard this a few weeks ago- I'm struggling to understand why channel 5 still have him narrating Olive the ostrich if the rumours had any truth in them, surely they'd not broadcast the programme?

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 19/04/2013 11:11

I hate the "I always knew there was something dodgy about him" and the "I've heard he's not very nice" posts. I am willing to accept innocent til proved guilty, and if guilty punished by the judicial system .

CambridgeBlue · 19/04/2013 11:12

I met him years ago through work and he was a bit quieter than on TV but perfectly pleasant and 'normal'. No telling whether it's true or not but I hope it isn't.

Not sure it's a good idea to name other names even in jest :(

ConferencePear · 19/04/2013 11:12

I think that we should remember that he hasn't been found guilty yet. I don't like the way everyone is assuming that he is guilty before he has even been charged.

Squigglypig · 19/04/2013 11:12

We were never proper friends so I've not seen her since either, but it wasn't because of her Rolf Revelations

StealthOfficialCrispTester · 19/04/2013 11:15

Ok ill let you name sooty :o he probably has been locked up in a cupboard somewhere :o
