Am going to be working away during the week, returning at weekends for a short period (5 weeks.) Original plan was to stay in a premier inn and work are paying for this (I am going to be going to a new workplace just to bridge a gap on a temporary basis.)

DP tells me I should, on my first day, announce in the meeting that I need somewhere to stay during the week.

I can't think of anything worse. I don't want to stay in a stranger's house, I'd feel really embarrassed at asking and after a day at work I want to chill out, watch bad TV and eat takeaways, but DP thinks I should save the money.

I can see his point but I really don't fancy it. AIBU?

He sounds utterly ghastly.

Thing is though, when you are earning your own money and he refusing to pay for parking or heating, why do you not say 'I am NOT walking 2 miles in the rain into town' or 'I am NOT sitting here in the freezing cold'. Why would you put up with such strange behaviour?

Oh dear, OP. While I don't think your DH is a shit, he's hard work, and I'd have stabbed him by now. With a stabby thing.

I can't get the underpants out of my mind.

I must admit there seem to be bigger issues here, bit on this occassion given thaht he has a different awareness of what is appropriate, and really doesnt get it, I think the nodding dog approach with lots of "yes dears" thrown in might be the way to smooth it over.

Say of course you will look at all the options, but then convienently forget to send the email. If he asks say nothing came of it. A small white lie which I know some wont agree with.

On a related note though, I do think that you need to decide what you can live with in terms of his "petty quirks" and tackle those that really annoy you.
