To think i must be a miserable old cow with regards to all the hilarity on the recent threads

I mean, people are ROARing with laughter - literally wetting themselves, crying with the hilarity of it all. Hmm

There must be something wrong with me because, yes, i think its funny mildly amusing and i enjoy reading the threads but can't be arsed to wade through the yoni stuff and will post that i think its funny or try and contribute but im a miserable cow so never find anything funny to say

Also the threads would be much shorter an easier to read if folk were to refrain from posting their reaction "oh i have just wet myself" type posts. Then everyone else thinks that they hve to keep up "oh, ive just popped a hernia i've laughed so much"

I love the funny threads, really i do, but i can't seem to muster more than a wry smile. Is it just me???

I think Morecambe and Wise was of it's time, I loved it back in the day when it was required weekend viewing but if I watch it now I hardly raise a smile.
Though I still laugh at other old timers, I only have to look at Tommy Cooper and it start's me off.

Lucyellensmum95 · 12/04/2013 15:49

I loathe frankie boyle with a vengance - oh dear, its not looking good for me is it!

I don't get Mrs Browns boys either - my mum, without fail, phones me to tell me its on, even though i tell her i think its shite.

I followed Greg Wallace around tesco once he had ready meals in his basket

Yeah, I'm in the grumpy camp too, especially when the dodgy puns get wheeled out.

Or when somebody expects a belly laugh for referencing Greggs and Fruit Shoots.

Gerrof · 12/04/2013 15:52

That's one thing that makes me laugh - Gregg Wallace's skull shape.

Feminine · 12/04/2013 15:52

Catchphrase is very funny!

Lucyellensmum95 · 12/04/2013 15:52

LBE i used to cry at Tommy Cooper when he kept getting things wrong and get cross with people for laughing Blush

Ohhh yes.... like a baked bean! Shock

NoelHeadbands · 12/04/2013 15:55

I very rarely find threads funny. Not even the obvious ones that everyone trots out in discussions like this.

That makes me sound like a right miserable bastard. Grin

I just love the pithy, one liners that crop up on odd threads here and there. There's a lot of funny posters on MN

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 12/04/2013 15:59

That was to Gerrof's Gregg Wallace post. Blush

NotTreadingGrapes · 12/04/2013 16:03

Gregg Wallace, the only human with a 4 dimensional head.

Pandemoniaa · 12/04/2013 16:06

I'm not routinely nearly wetting myself with laughter over threads and some of the more arcane threads leave me utterly clueless - nobdies, wolefs and the like.

But sometimes there is genuine comedy genius on here and it's been a pretty good week for it. Some of the one-liners have been uproariously funny but like the best comedy, they've popped up when you least expect them.

ThreeWheelsGood · 12/04/2013 16:06

YANBU - the original Yoni thread was hilarious and rightly belongs in Classics, but all the ffollow up threads were unnecessary. Spontaneous humour is best.

Pandemoniaa · 12/04/2013 16:11

Spontaneous humour is best.

Absolutely. The secret of good comedy is not just timing. It's also knowing when to stop.

Viviennemary · 12/04/2013 16:11

I wouldn't know what the yoni stuff even meant. I don't mind a bit of humour but all these in jokes is boring to outsiders.

Pandemoniaa · 12/04/2013 16:21

...but all these in jokes is boring to outsiders.

It's an internet forum. Not a dinner party. Sure, there are threads which are full of in-jokes. But that doesn't mean you are compelled to join them. Equally, there are plenty of threads on a forum this size that aren't full of in-jokes. That's why you exercise personal choice over what you do or don't want to read/participate in.

However, if you label yourself as an outsider then that's likely to become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

usualsuspect · 12/04/2013 16:24

Anyone can join in on any thread. No one has to be an outsider.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 12/04/2013 16:27

i really dont like threads like these where people are made to feel silly or embarrassed about having a laugh.

I had a laugh on yoni thread at start then went back to it again at end, it's just a thread, you are free to post on it or read it or not, noone is forcing you, in the end.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 12/04/2013 16:30

IMO the yoni thread is just a written record of people having a good laugh together at the time.

YoniLovesChachi · 12/04/2013 16:30

I truly am a miserable cynical cow, but I genuinely laugh to the point of tears over things I read on here sometimes.

I suppose enough people are in the right mood at the same time to make these threads run and run and keep entertaining. Some of them will catch you, some of them will totally pass you by. Doesn't mean people are laughing at things that aren't funny just to be in with that moment's in crowd.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 12/04/2013 16:33

" Secondly, some jokes that might have been funny to start with get completely overdone with people not wanting to let it go because it gets a reaction or others jumping on the bandwagon and it becomes a 'them and us' - either you're in the 'club' or you're not in which case you are a joyless, dried up, haridan."

I don't believe anyone is thinking like this when they post on these threads, they are just having a laugh at the time.

That sort of comment smacks of the usual "Royalty" and "clique" crap to me.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 12/04/2013 16:34

Exactly, YoniLovesChachi, people are just having a laugh at the time then afterwards are made to feel crap by being called "in crowd wannabees" and other such nonsense, I hate it.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 12/04/2013 16:38

Yy to that Fanjo

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 12/04/2013 16:38

Maybe, Fanjo, but you could take it the other way also - that those 'in the know' about the 'in jokes' are part of the Royalty/Clique, couldn't you? I don't believe that royalty/clique exists but some threads can be a bit divisive and then become 'them and us' due to the opinion-split.

Agree with you that nobody is thinking of that though when they post. Everybody has things that make them laugh and things that don't. I have laughed loud at some threads that I read, but not many. If I met people in person I'd probably be laughing for the whole time.

LadyBeagleEyes · 12/04/2013 16:38

I agree Fanjo.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 12/04/2013 16:40

How, just HOW can somebody make you feel crap by saying that they don't find something funny that you do? I'm absolutely amazed by that... Shock

You can like a thread/comment for 101 reasons and other people can dislike it or be indifferent to it for 101 reasons... anybody has the right to comment though. Liking/not liking something is NOT a personal attack, really it isn't.
