When asked in the future 'Where were you when you heard Margaret Thatcher had died' she will have to say 'defending Mumsnet on Radio 2 due to some furore regarding Amanda Holden and a year old thread'.

Sad

I understood Glowcock, and was amazed that they allowed that on Radio 2.

Justine
you were great. Very calm and collected in the face of angry Christina.

'There is a single mood, and that is anger'.

There isn't even a agreement on our favourite biscuit. We don't have a single mood.

'offer a support system for mothers.. how much calpol, where is best Sure Start'

That made me laugh too. They have been plenty of threads on saving Sure Start anyway.

You definitely can hear Jane and Justine sniggering.

Am I understanding this right... that Justine Mumsnet slipped in a glowcock? On Radio 4 with the sainted Jane Garvey (I love Jane Garvey) what used to be married to Adrian Chiles just so you know? Shock Shock Shock

No, a caller that was anti MN said she asked about said item and got told off about manners or something.

It was on Radio 2 K8 and Jane Garvey is standing in for Jeremy Vine ATM. The caller was a bit unclear I couldn't work out WHAT she said actually it did sound a bit Hmm !!

Coming to this a bit late but just adding my support, I thought Justine did a fantastic job of remaining calm and putting her point across in the face of uninformed nastiness from the other woman.

I finally got to listen to it and, as has been said, well done Justine.

The groclock woman: all I can say is: gasp not swearing?!?!?! I am fucking shocked to hear that.

Here's the thing. Yes, we're women. But you know what? That doesn't mean we have to sit down and shut up. Deal with it or go away.

Everyone would have been debating AH at the time, daily mail users, all sorts because what she did was unusual. Even without the baby if she had gone back to work so quickly after being at deaths door people would be thinking wow.
But who could have been failed to be moved by the story of the lady in hospital?

Sheesh. jesus in a cabbage van 'why are mothers so angry'.

Smellie MN is a good place to learn odd expletives like "jesus in a cabbage van" Grin never heard that one beforeGrin

I've only just managed to listen to this. My dad drew my attention to it, he's now not a fan of Christina Odene to say the least!

Anyway, good points well-articulated by Justine. And why on earth is CO so determined to limit mothers to a few subjects? I think she just doesn't understand forums - the last time I looked Petrolheads wasn't limited to cars, and DigitalSpy wasn't limited to TV. But as mothers we should stick to stuff out little brains can process, apparently. Ignoring the fact that there are dads, grandparents and oh, people with no children on this site.

Way to put women down, Christina Hmm

Another request for a transcript for the Irish MNetters?

Report
SmellieWellies · 10/04/2013 14:35

ppeatfruit I confess I got that from a MN thread about ocado deliveries... now my rpeferred expletive of choice. Grin

What i found a bit strange about CO's stance is that she was basically arguing about 'feminism being this or that' but then trying to prescribe what women talk about, and how women behave in public spaces. i.e. an internet forum. Deciding that only a few topics are suitable for 'mothers' is about as anti-feminist as I can think.

And oh, just have to say. i LURVE Jane Garvey. I also reckon she is a MNetter. [waves]

smellie I reckon C.O. is a bit on the dim side (she says diplomatically) Grin most journos are so blinkered and only going for the sensational soundbite. What does annoy me is that the Beeb spouts similar un thought out nonsense in their news.

'offer a support system for mothers.. how much calpol, where is best Sure Start'

Once upon a time I found a website doing that. It was called Netmums. It was as dull as fuck.

It put me off parenting sites for years, until I found a bunch of irreverent, funny, intelligent women with diverse and interesting opinions instead.

I still hold a grudge against NM. I missed out on at least five classic years.

When she said "no they weren't my friends but they are now."

Why can't our Irish MNers like BabyMakes and PigOfHappiness and access I-Player on the interwebs? Not very world-wide-webby, is it?
