When asked in the future 'Where were you when you heard Margaret Thatcher had died' she will have to say 'defending Mumsnet on Radio 2 due to some furore regarding Amanda Holden and a year old thread'.

Sad

Aww thanks everyone for your kind comments. I was quite nervous as it happens because I felt quite strongly that we were being unjustly portrayed and was worried I'd get a bit ranty. Helped that Jane Garvey is so calming though.

Sparklingbrook · 09/04/2013 08:52

Well no nerves were audible. Smile I was one of the posters that got quoted in the DM so feel a bit responsible for you having to do that Justine. Sad

I'm now a Justine fangirl.

Christine Wankbag was awful. "Why are mothers so angry?!"

Oh fuck off, mate.

MarmaladeTwatkins · 09/04/2013 09:03

Oh and apparently, we should all be talking about how much Calpol to give our bubbahs, NOT having opinions.

Just so you know.

Sparklingbrook · 09/04/2013 09:12

Ooh yes. V important discussions re Calpol and Groclocks Confused

Love Jane Garvey Smile. Was sorry I had to go out and miss this yesterday so am going to catch up now.

I feel a bit sorry for Justine and for all of us actually - all this negative press is so tiresome and a leetel bit dull now, to boot.

ParsingFancy · 09/04/2013 09:18

So have I got this right?

Odone and others were criticising women for having strong opinions, personal and general, and not being afraid to disagree or displease?

And were cut short by news of the death of Margaret Thatcher. And then a torrent of tributes from across the world for a woman who, er...

Righto.

MarmaladeTwatkins · 09/04/2013 09:18

WTF is a Groclock anyway?!

Sparklingbrook · 09/04/2013 09:21

I have no idea Marmalade, I am just thankful it had an 'l' in it, Grin

Me too, me too. Could have been horrific.

BIWI · 09/04/2013 09:25

I love Jane Garvey. And I bet she is a MNetter.

AnyFucker · 09/04/2013 09:28

I want to be like Justine when I grow up

Pascha · 09/04/2013 09:29

But I already know how much calpol to give. I can read the bottle. What am I allowed to talk about now?

AvrilPoisson · 09/04/2013 09:45

i too have no idea what a groclock is, completely passed me by.

Although I adore Justine, I feel it should be pointed out that of course she's had media training- she was a journo, and she set up a social media site!

ppeatfruit · 09/04/2013 09:46

You know what MN is getting SO powerful that the journos like Odone are getting their knickers in a twist and trying to talk us down. Well it won't work JUSTINE FOR PRIME MINISTER YAY!!!!!!

flaminhoopsaloolah · 09/04/2013 09:51

Parsingfancy - nicely ironic really.

Never had media training but I have now done quite a lot of media thanks to you lot! My v brief journalistic career involved writing football match reports, mostly from God-forsaken places like Selhurst Park and Hull. (I want a glowcock when i grow up.)

IamtheZombie · 09/04/2013 10:30

Zombie nominates "I want a glowcock when I grow up." for Quote of the Day.

You did sound a little nervous at the beginning Justine. But where most of us would have fallen apart because of it, you came back with brilliant arguments for all her petty points in a clam manner.

Lueji · 09/04/2013 10:37

FGS, Justine, just point out the comments by the DM readers when the news came out at the time!
They are alienating their own readers then.
Sigh.

SlinkyB · 09/04/2013 11:08

I have a GroClock! It's like a clock for toddlers to help them with sleep training; it glows blue/stars at night, and you set the time when it changes to glow yellow/sun

Justine you rocked Smile

Have enjoyed this thread, and also get really pissed off when the media say "Mumsnetters think..." grr.

I certainly don't think the overriding "mood" of the site is anger; I'd say it was humour!

magimedi · 09/04/2013 11:09

MammaTJ · 09/04/2013 11:10

The other person talking about the women on MN.....There's two kinds of angry women, one is the kind who is really resentful of motherhood because she sees it as a demotion, she was probably quite high powered, and dammit, she's had the child and she's stuck at home. She vents her frustration on mumsnet. But then there's another kind of mother and she's the mother who adores being at home, feels blesed with children but she's angry because not only politicians but fellow mumsnetters keep telling her that motherhood is not enough'

I'll fuck off then as I clearly don't belong here. I work full time. If this is only for SAHMs a lot of us should leave.

Justine, you did brilliantly, even though she did her best to talk over you.
