...to not reply to texts asking if I've had the baby yet?

I feel harassed. Official due date isn't even until tomorrow. Getting extremely pissed off - don't people realise it is RUDE to keep asking?

Yes, I know you are all going to say it's only because people care. But don't they think if there was any news, we would tell them?

Omg I got so fed up with that. Dd decided to hang on a long time, so spent weeks reassuring the world and her husband that they'd be the first to know...

PrettyFlyForAWifi · 01/04/2013 11:17

I know - I had the same and the temptation to reply 'oh yes, we had the baby a few weeks ago, did I not mention it?' was huge! So annoying but I know before I had dc I did the same thing to pregnant friends. YADNBU!

CruCru · 01/04/2013 11:17

If it's making you ratty, reply with "Are you being funny?". Perhaps a bit too arsey.

Hawkmoth · 01/04/2013 11:17

Reply with, "yes but I didn't have you on the list to let you know." No further texts... Grin

RaisingGirls · 01/04/2013 11:17

Send them this link in response:
Have you had that baby yet?

My DD was 15 days late!!! I felt like I'd be pregnant for all eternity! Was SO grumpy!
What I wish I'd done is for both DH and I to send group texts on due date saying 'thanks for all your kind wishes, we won't be replying to any messages now until after baby arrives when of course we will let you know'
Probably a bit selfish but I was ready to kill the next person who asked 'any news yet?' Angry
Go for it! Grin

gallicgirl · 01/04/2013 11:19

I did sarcastically tell my mom baby was born 3 days previously which gave me a bit of respite. Another time, I will lie about my due date and push it back a week or two.

dadofnone · 01/04/2013 11:20

It didn't bother me when this happened to me. I just replied ' he's still hanging in there!' And forwarded that message to any one that texted!
Not a big deal tbh.

ElliesWellies · 01/04/2013 11:21

Haha, thank you all.

jinxdragon - In some ways, I am enjoying the thought that they are probably getting their hopes up (because I'm not replying) as it serves them right for keeping on asking. I know this makes me a bad person!

I am tempted by a group text, which politely points out that the baby is not even late, and it could be another two weeks.

gallicgirl - Yes you are right, should have lied about the due date. I realised too late that DH had told a few people the right date early on.

Yanbu.

Tolly81 · 01/04/2013 11:26

YANBU. Thank goodness I delivered at T+3 and didn't have weeks of it. PILs were the worst. Agree just send blanket text round. Have to admit, facebook was quite useful for keeping the majority of people away as I'd just put on a status about still being pg. Sadly didn't work for the PILs though!

elQuintoConyo · 01/04/2013 11:28

It's when you are stopped by friends/aquaintances in the street and asked 'have you had it yet?' when your belly arrives in a room 5 minutes before you do!!

Just ignore the texts, they'll soon get bored.

Fwiw, once DS popped out, I designated two people to control the news: DSil for the family and best friend for our group of friends, just so everyone knew what room we were in and when we were going home (we were in for 4 days). If anyone wanted news, they contacted those two people. I answered texts from UK as I'm abroad.

ElliesWellies · 01/04/2013 11:31

Oh gosh, have just realised it is April Fools' Day. Perhaps I should tell everyone we have just had surprise twins or something.

GlaikitHasHerFizzBack · 01/04/2013 11:33

I started replying yes, they(triplets) arrived yesterday, all vaginally. Bernard, bernadette and bernice all well, weight over 10 pounds each. Surprise!!! I love being a mummy

Excellent for today too! Do it I dare ya!

GlaikitHasHerFizzBack · 01/04/2013 11:33

Xposts! Do it, seriously! At
LEast you'll get a giggle!

HorryIsUpduffed · 01/04/2013 11:36

I got pissed off. I posted on FB "yes it's my due date; no he isn't here yet; stop asking; you'll hear quickly".

I promptly went into labour and had him within eight hours of the status.

Worth a try? Grin

I agree that being vague about EDD is a Very Good Idea.

HorryIsUpduffed · 01/04/2013 11:37

or yy to triplets with remarkable names.

Helpexcel · 01/04/2013 11:38

Do not reply!!

I got so fed up with people asking me if I "had that baby yet" with dc1 and 2 that I lied to everyone except my mum about the actual due date of dc3.
Dc3 was day over but everyone thought she was early.

I am 4 days overdue and just about ready to go into total meltdown so am pretty much ignoring all texts/ calls/ Facebook messages!

Dillydollydaydream · 01/04/2013 11:48

I've added a week onto my real edd so hopefully that will keep the texts at bay a bit longer :)

GlaikitHasHerFizzBack · 01/04/2013 11:51

I was 14 days late with ds. I passed all communication to him. My poor best friend called th night before I went into hospital to be induced and dh had to tell her I didn't want to talk to anyone. He was like Kofi Annan keeping the peace because I was in such a foul mood!

Good luck op! :o
