To not want my child encouraged to sing about sexy ladies

School Easter party, which was a loud disco, for 4-7 year olds.

They played that god awful Gangnam style song and kept stopping it to encourage kids to shout 'ooo sexy lady'

I mean really?

It reminded me of the eighties, adults thinking they know what kids want.

Well all the kids at dds school do like it, I imagine that they do know the songs they like.

I agree but sadly i dont feel theres much i can do about it other than have a conversation with my own Dd about why i dont like the term.

At least it wasn't britney spears which a magician clown act played at one of the parties my dd went to last year. 20 5 yr old dancing around to "sex in the air, I love" the smell of it was unbelievably wrong and he was asked to trun it off tut suite

No. Adults market this crap at kids and make them think it is what they want. To make money.

(Ummm we were primary age when "Like A Virgin" came out. I remember singing VERY loudly to that at a birthday party!)

I honestly don't think it's that bad, especially some of the other stuff that's out there. (I draw the line at bloody Rihanna and her verbal foreplay). I remember screeching "Acieeeeeeeed" at the top of my voice when was in primary school. My mum hated it, just made me sing it all the more. I didn't have a clue what I was singing.

Sparklingbrook, in the future when they are older and thus more able to make informed choices, I won't mind so much.

I am not against sex, just the exploitation of minors and innocents to market something that is utterly shite to begin with.

oh get a grip! I grew up in the "do ya think I'm sexy" by Rod Stewart era, followed by "like a virgin"... I was never exploited or lost any innocence over a bloody song!

To be fair Gangam Style wasn't promoted or aimed at kids, it was a surprise hit from a Korean rapper. He'll be as surprised as you that 5 year old kids in the UK are singing it.

That said I agree that deliberately focusing on it at a disco for very young children is a bit off.

So out of interest what or where did some of you grow up?

I was a 70s era child and fondly remember 'my ding a ling' and ' get back inside me Romeo' etc. at children's parties and school discos.

Oh for goodness' sake - it's just a good dance song with a very effective ear-worm. When I was their age, it was "come on Barbie let's go party", "I wanna have sex on the beach", "boom boom boom boom, I want you in my room", "making love's forever, friendship never ends" and "tonight is the night when two become one" (along with plenty of others that I don't even remember) - we really enjoyed singing along to the songs, and absolutely no harm was done. I still sing them sometimes while I'm doing housework, along with a bit of Gangnam Style. I'm now a straight, well educated, totally monogamous feminist, so I can safely say that it did me no harm.

If you want to complain about the precious minds of the young being polluted by the evils of the music industry, I'd recommend directing your attention towards the real misogyny promoted by some rap and hip-hop music and videos, and the borderline pornographic content of many mainstream music videos. Hopefully your DS won't be singing along to those when he hits his teens, as then I think you'd have a point .

They make Gangnam Style sound like something sung by Mary Poppins.

You're reading far too much into it, really.

FWIW I was singing "some people call it a one night stand, but we can call it paradise" in the eighties. I am fine.

When DS1 was in Yr1/2 he was singing that Shaggy song about banging on the bathroom floor! He's fine, too! Mark you, I did tell him that Shaggy was probably after someone to bring him a new sponge, or some more shampoo!
