To not want my child encouraged to sing about sexy ladies

School Easter party, which was a loud disco, for 4-7 year olds.

They played that god awful Gangnam style song and kept stopping it to encourage kids to shout 'ooo sexy lady'

I mean really?

It reminded me of the eighties, adults thinking they know what kids want.

My ds says i'm a sexy lady but sings gammon tart!!!

MavisSnapdragon · 28/03/2013 23:07

My DDs (5 and 7) sing "hey, saxon ladies!" I haven't corrected them!

Donnadoon · 28/03/2013 23:38

My kids sing "chips and gravy" instead of "sexy lady" this was the dance teachers idea:)

Still18atheart · 29/03/2013 00:03

Yes it is bad, but this has been happening with every generation of kids for years. At that age they don't fully understand what the song is about just that it's got a funny dance and has a catchy tune

When I was younger, it was the Barbie Girl song, google the words for that and you realise it's awful

DameDoom · 29/03/2013 00:27

There's always a slightly risque song - or downright rudeytudey tune that children will hook into - bit embarrassing if they burst into it Sainsbos at most.
Some folk get up in arms about this'exploitation' and thank their lucky stars that their child isn't like that ... maybe that's because their actual offspring spend their time quietly in their room playing 'Call of Duty' from a very early age?

MrsLion · 29/03/2013 00:29

Gangnam style marketed at kids to exploit them Grin

Ummm, no it's just a rather silly, yet catchy song with an utterly ridiculous dance.

The 'sexy lady' lyric is unfortunate but in general it's pretty harmless- and fun.

I was a teenager in the 90s- 'smack my bitch up' (prodigy) is springing to mind, now that was appalling and concerning.

AnitaKnightSavesTheWorld · 29/03/2013 00:36

All my dc (primary age) have been singing this for months now.

No YANBU! My 5 yr old girl singing hey sexy laaaayydddyyyy is just wrong

LovesBeingWokenEveryNight · 29/03/2013 05:55

Of course part of the problem is that is almost the only part in English, so yabu for not teaching your child korean so they could sing the rest of it.

pollywollydoodle · 29/03/2013 06:17

lovesbeing Grin

i remember kenny singing the bump....i thought it was brilliant that i could sing "come on and do the bum...."

JockTamsonsBairns · 29/03/2013 06:35

Ds (5) burst into a rendition of 'Oooooohh, sexy ladies' at his Granny's house a few weeks ago. Can't say I'm hugely comfortable about it, but I had to remind myself that he is completely oblivious to the meaning of the lyrics, and that these sorts of songs have been around for decades and probably cause no damage to anyone whatsoever.

AngryBeaver · 29/03/2013 06:53

Mine love it, but I have changed the words to "sassy" lady!

MackerelOfFact · 29/03/2013 07:32

I nearly get thrown out of Brownies for singing "I'm horny, horny horny horny, so horny, I'm horny horny horny tonight" repeatedly during camp.

I thought horns were great.

I find it hard to be bothered by Gangnam Style. The only reason that bit always gets sung along to is because the rest is in flaming Korean.

MackerelOfFact · 29/03/2013 07:33

Nearly 'got'. I don't still go and sing this song. Grin

AViewfromtheFridge · 29/03/2013 07:40

Bluelights Shock

That's what a chimney is? I, too, thought maybe she'd be staggering around carrying one. I'm deeply shocked.

crashdoll · 29/03/2013 08:51

Now Mackerel it's ok, if you like going to Brownies and singing your horny song, you don't need to feel ashamed. We are all here for you in your time of need. :)

imacowbaggetmeoutofhere · 29/03/2013 09:10

I used to think it was 'Oh honey, honey, honey, honey.'

Couldn't understand why my Mum told me stop singing it whilst walking around Woolworths.

MajorDivvy · 29/03/2013 09:18

drwitch I LOVE the 'Kinda lingers' song! Grin Not old enough to 'remember it per se but have a 'Not the Nine O Clock News' DVD which it's on! So funny! (Though my favourite sketch will always be the 'toilet' one - "No I think I'll have another toilet.." "How about a toilet in the shower, kill two birds with one stone!")

My DS is 4 and loves Gangnam - tbh I don't see the harm! When I was his age I knew all the words to Alice Cooper's 'Poison' and wasn't much older when I'd memorised the spoken track on Meatloaf's Bat out Of Hell 2 album! ( the one with such lines as 'I was only 17 and I once killed a guy with a fender guitar..')

I've turned out ok!
