To not want my child encouraged to sing about sexy ladies

School Easter party, which was a loud disco, for 4-7 year olds.

They played that god awful Gangnam style song and kept stopping it to encourage kids to shout 'ooo sexy lady'

I mean really?

It reminded me of the eighties, adults thinking they know what kids want.

My just five yr old loves it and my 27mth old dd does the dance...

The lyrics are just that words that they don't understand, there is much worse and there has always been innuendo in music, my ds3 loves George formby, the innuendo in that is much worse!

5eggstremelychocaletymadeggs · 27/03/2013 21:16

I rememnber 'steam' by east 17 outside its raining a d inside its wet....

Gangnam Style was not marketed at children. It was a song popular in its native country, South Korea that only garnered worldwide fame because the funny dance routine in the video went viral on YouTube. I can see where you're coming from not wanting your child to sing about sexy ladies, but you sound hysterical and as though you have some sort of 'omg peedoez' agenda insisting that it was specifically created to be a song abut sex that is catchy for kids. I mean, how many songs, sexy or not, are marketed at kids in foreign languages? Kids are just singing the 'sexy ladies' bit because apart from 'Gangnam style', which means nothing to anyone who doesn't know what the song is about (it's a pisstake about how stupid bling/celeb culture is in the rich Gangnam district of Seoul, not sexy ladies, which is part of the mockery), they simply don't know any other words.

I mean, how many other South Korean pop songs do you know? Thought not.

PMSL at Shaggy needing some new shampoo, soapandglory Grin

Sparklingbrook · 27/03/2013 21:22

Anyway Ant and Dec's 'Let's get Ready to Rhumble' is far superior in terms of lyrics and dance moves. Wink

OxfordBags · 27/03/2013 21:22

Missing comma after South Korea at top, grrrrr.

scaevola · 27/03/2013 21:30

Well, about this time last year, the countering was about "I'm sexy and I know it".

There's always going to be one track or another gong around. I't'll be a short-lived fad, and probably best ignored. It was "My ding-a-ling" when I was small.

scaevola · 27/03/2013 21:30

"countering"? Sorry - 'chuntering'

RobbinyoureastereggsSparkles · 27/03/2013 21:31

Sparkling me and my friend did a dance to that in Primary school for the talent show!

I had their album and know all the words and everything.

Sparklingbrook · 27/03/2013 21:34

Can you remember the dance Robbin?

RobbinyoureastereggsSparkles · 27/03/2013 21:40

Just to add -

I was one of the most innocent and naive children that I know. However, at the age of five/six I was OBSESSED with the film Grease. I used to invite my friend round to play and I would make him dance and sing a long to the soundtrack with me. We would sing Greased Lightening but the only word he knew in the lyrics was "shit". So it would get to the "you know it ain't no shit we'll be gettin' lots o' tit in greased lightnin'..." And we would scream that part - I had no idea what "getting lots of tit" was.

I haven't seen him for years but he bumps into my mum often. He always mentions it "Robin always made me dance to Grease!"

RobbinyoureastereggsSparkles · 27/03/2013 21:41

Um... No! Blush

yes

VitoCorleone · 27/03/2013 21:44

I used to go to the under 11's disco when i was a kid and they used to play that Alice song, and yes there was a room full of kids singing "who the fuck is alice"

Im not even joking

Sparklingbrook · 27/03/2013 21:45

'Gordon is a moron' Grin

stretch · 27/03/2013 21:45

My 3 year old sings it to me as well, not sure about that!

I didn't like when all the kids were singing "suicidal" by Sean kingston though, that felt wrong.

Suzieismyname · 27/03/2013 21:48

DD1 thinks it's "ooooh, such a lady", and I'm not correcting her. She's 4.8. no harm done...

OddBoots · 27/03/2013 21:50

I'm showing my era when I say... 'Let's talk about sex baby, let's talk about you and me, let's talk about all the good things and the bad things that may be...'

and... 'I wanna sex you up, all night, you make me feel real good...'

Bluelightsandsirens · 27/03/2013 21:51

It happens through the years. I remember my 5 year old avidly singing "I wanna have sex on the beach"

It took me years to realise "what's she gonna look like with a chimney on her" actually meant a black eye and not a brick built chimney house on her head.

RobbinyoureastereggsSparkles · 27/03/2013 21:52

When my nephew was about 3 his nursery key worker was called Julie. Guess what he used to sing to her?
"Me Joolie, y'know me luvya trooly..."

He's a lovely 14 year old now. :o

cantdoalgebra · 27/03/2013 21:54

If you don't approve of the songs, don't let your children go to disco's.

Boomtastic · 27/03/2013 21:59

For fuck's sake, who had to mention Shaggy. I can't get that bloody song out of my head now. Angry

My era was (I'm horny horny horny horny) and (hit me baby one more time)

DC don't have the understanding to know what they are singing they just like singing whatever the words may be and if it's a slightly naughty word that they know mummy doesn't like them using they want to use it all the more!

discotequewreck · 27/03/2013 22:09

I'm not hysterical. Cynical yes.

Did the dj have to specifically stop the song in this place and encourage a bunch of 6 year olds to shout the words?

It's a little tacky if nothing else.
