to wear a red dress to a wedding?

Will I look like a harlet?
Dress is pillarbox red, knee length, thick shoulder straps and all wrinkly (I don't know the proper word!) at the stomach so very flattering.

Wedding isn't really a wedding. Is a reception do in the city centre at a bar to celebrate my best friends wedding which she had last week just her and her husband in South Africa. Very informal. But it is still kind of a wedding and she will be in her wedding dress.

linky

i will tell thee whether harlotness

Shelly32 · 23/03/2013 17:42

My wedding dress was red. Does that make me a harlot... Grin

Binkybix · 23/03/2013 17:43

Add a link, but I've seen plenty of red dresses at weddings and never thought 'harlot'. I thought the only thing you avoided was white. Oh and possibly black.

Salmotrutta · 23/03/2013 17:43

It sounds like a lovely dress!

I didn't know there was a No Red rule for weddings? Confused

Salmotrutta · 23/03/2013 17:45

I prefer the word "floozy" by the way Grin

lurkedtoolong · 23/03/2013 17:45

Sounds lovely. Didn't know there was a problem with red.

Oh god, is this something else we have to avoid - white, black, red, what next?

mrsjay · 23/03/2013 17:46

Grin harlot my nana would have called you a strumpet for wearing red anywhere she had a 'thing' about red dresses not sure what a strumpet is though, I have wore a red jacket over a black dress years ago to an autumn wedding are you not supposed too ?

LandofTute · 23/03/2013 17:47

Ooh. One thing you haven't mentioned is how low cut it is. Will there be a lot of boobage on display? [Gives OP stern look]

If no boobage then i don't think anyone will point at the harlot. Wink (I don't think they will anyway!) Grin It sounds fine!

mrsjay · 23/03/2013 17:47

VBisme · 23/03/2013 17:47

No problem with red, it sounds lovely.

Jestrin · 23/03/2013 17:47

It sounds lovely!

Salmotrutta · 23/03/2013 17:48

I've changed my mind - strumpet is even better than floozy!

WhereYouLeftIt · 23/03/2013 17:49

Why do you think red is not wedding-wearable? Confused

mrsjay · 23/03/2013 17:49

talking about boobage and weddings I was at a reception and a rather big boobed bridesmaid fell out of her floaty summer dress on the dancefloor and kept on dancing Shock I think a lot of wine had flowed during the day they were all pissed at night

scaevola · 23/03/2013 17:51

Bride isn't Chinese, is she?

If not, then lovely.

mrsjay · 23/03/2013 17:52

Jacksterbear · 23/03/2013 17:54

I think the "scarlet harlot" thing is bollox only applies to the bride?

Shelly32 · 23/03/2013 17:55

O.. well a definite harlot then.... Looked lovely though!!

MrsCampbellBlack · 23/03/2013 17:55

Sounds nice and I think you mean ruching over the tummy area.

I'd wear it with leopard print heels.

As long as you're not in white with a tiara you're fine.

TWinklyLittleStar · 23/03/2013 17:56

My bridesmaids were in red dresses... Did I make them into harlots/strumpets? :)

mrsjay · 23/03/2013 17:57

MY bridesmaid was in red too nobody told me Wink

DoingTheSwanThing · 23/03/2013 17:58

My bridesmaid dress for next weekend is red. As are the men's cravats. Never heard of red being an issue before!

ppeatfruit · 23/03/2013 18:01

DD2 was a bridesmaid and all 6 of them wore BLACK and held RED flowers !!!

EmmelineGoulden · 23/03/2013 18:01

I love weddings like that mrsjay so long as I'm not the bridesmaid.

Red is fine OP.

ppeatfruit · 23/03/2013 18:02
