AIBU?

to wear a red dress to a wedding?

Will I look like a harlet?
Dress is pillarbox red, knee length, thick shoulder straps and all wrinkly (I don't know the proper word!) at the stomach so very flattering.

Wedding isn't really a wedding. Is a reception do in the city centre at a bar to celebrate my best friends wedding which she had last week just her and her husband in South Africa. Very informal. But it is still kind of a wedding and she will be in her wedding dress.

I think that's an out of date notion. Unless your the ex perhaps in which case demur is kinder!

Actually want my wedding dress to be red Grin but want to make sure I'm not breaking any weird red wedding rule. Shoes are also red and apparant in this area red shoes = no knickers.
I will be wearing pants. Big ones. As I fall over a lot.

No pinky I'm afraid but will post pic when I'm dressed for your judgement info

Thinking about this some more I think its red hats that are the no no. Sure my mother used to say something along the lines of 'red hat no knickers'

Nah MrsCampbell It's "Fur coat no knickers" Grin

Sounds lovely Horcrux. And yes I think it's an obsolete notion. The kind of thing my nan (who would be in her 100s now) would have thought.

I wore a red dress to a wedding a few months ago and never gave it a second thought. I love that dress.

Go ahead, OP

No ppeatfruite I know that one too - I just used the power of google and its a northern thing 'red hat no drawers' as red hats used to be worn by prostitutes apparently.

So fur coats were worn by southern prostitutes then? Grin my mil told me that she was a real East Ender!

furcoats no knickers is also a scottish saying it is chilly up here though Grin

We say fur coat no knickers pop north too. Never heard if the red hat version.

Last time I wore red to a wedding I was massively pg. I looked sweaty rather trollopey tho.

That was a post from DS...

My wedding dress was red and several people turned up to my wedding in red - makes the photos nice when not everyone is in black/pastel colours!

Definitely "Red hat, no knickers" as my mum in Yorkshire still says.

Ah, it's "fur coat, nae knickers" in Scotland. But I think that's more about outward appearances than harlotry! Grin

Wedding dresses are always red in China, and usually in India too. Very bad form to wear white for weddings there.

Unless you are the bride I think you will be fine!

We couldn't afford hats or fur coats when I was a lass, so it was red socks, no knicks! (from north too originally).
My friend got married in red, looked stunning.

As long as it's not mrsjay's nan's wedding you should be fine.
