AIBU?

to wear a red dress to a wedding?

Will I look like a harlet?
Dress is pillarbox red, knee length, thick shoulder straps and all wrinkly (I don't know the proper word!) at the stomach so very flattering.

Wedding isn't really a wedding. Is a reception do in the city centre at a bar to celebrate my best friends wedding which she had last week just her and her husband in South Africa. Very informal. But it is still kind of a wedding and she will be in her wedding dress.

I think red is fine for guests in non Chinese/Indian weddings. Only rules I'd stick by are not all white/black and not slutty and not the same as the bridesmaids.

My DSis wore a red Karen Millen dress to my wedding. I helped her choose it and it looked fab.

Go for it!

That's interesting scaevola yes didn't la Dame aux Camellias (a courtesan BTW) wear a red one when she had her period?

I wore a red dress to a wedding evening do last night. To be fair I am 7 andta half months pregnant and it was the only thing that fit me but I would never have thought it to be inappropriate? Always think it's worse to show up as a wedding guest all clad in white TBH

I wore a red suit to my sister's wedding. What's more, she lent it to me.

Can't imagine it's a problem.

red shows that you've made an effort to look good/radiant for her wedding. it's a fantastic colour. wear it with pride. white is the colour to avoid at a wedding. the bride will just be pleased you look nearly as good as her! :)

I thought wearing red was a secret code for menstruation. Or is that only corsages?

Its fine, unless you are wearing it as secret code that you the ow. That is my only association. However, marry in red, better off dead is also a cheery saying my mum used to witter. Along with, no the only vegetarian option at the hotel is mushroom.

As long as it's not mrsjay's nan's wedding you should be fine.

We couldn't afford hats or fur coats when I was a lass, so it was red socks, no knicks! (from north too originally).
My friend got married in red, looked stunning.

Unless you are the bride I think you will be fine!

Wedding dresses are always red in China, and usually in India too. Very bad form to wear white for weddings there.

Ah, it's "fur coat, nae knickers" in Scotland. But I think that's more about outward appearances than harlotry! Grin

Definitely "Red hat, no knickers" as my mum in Yorkshire still says.

That was a post from DS...

My wedding dress was red and several people turned up to my wedding in red - makes the photos nice when not everyone is in black/pastel colours!

So fur coats were worn by southern prostitutes then? Grin my mil told me that she was a real East Ender!

No ppeatfruite I know that one too - I just used the power of google and its a northern thing 'red hat no drawers' as red hats used to be worn by prostitutes apparently.

I wore a red dress to a wedding a few months ago and never gave it a second thought. I love that dress.

Go ahead, OP
