AIBU?

to ask the sales assistant to wash her hands

I don't think i was tbh
It was Boots. I bought a yoghurt, wrapped sandwich (thank god!)

As I went to the counter the sales assistant was sniffing then wiped her nose with the back of her hand then picked up my items saying do you want a bag....

I actually said... I would like to put those back please and change them..and really you should have washed your hands before touching them because you've just wiped your nose with the back of your hand.

She went a bit red and washed her hands with some anti bac on the counter so I wondered if someone had mentioned something earlier

But I felt very awkward like I was being difficult..but really I'm not am I?

Hmm, whilst she shouldn't have done that, I imagine it picked her right up that you commented on her behaviour.

FWIW my manager won't allow a box of tissues near the till. At work with hay fever I've had to touch my nose. Its horrendously embarrassing And I'd have been made to feel so much better by a caring attitude like your own.

I gave you a reasoned argument up there^, your majesty.

Then you turned into a one sentence spambot.

HTH.

The buttons on the card machine will be far worse than that sandwich wrapper.

i dont get why people think shes rude.. and so what if theres more germs on the money or door knobs.

its very british to hold back on maybe offending someone whos done something rude/gross just incase your hurt their feelings.

i would have done the same..

Without knowing your tone it does seem a bit rude but in principle I think you were right. Was in Sainsburys once and the boy on the checkout wiped his nose while holding a loose kiwi. I really didn't care if it was a scratch of an itch or wiping snot. I took the offending item to customer services and complained there rather than scolding the checkout assistant.

I got my kiwi replaced and then a few days later a £10 voucher. I actually didn't care about the voucher (although thank you) but wanted to highlight to someone that this was an area that perhaps need more training in store.

Did she wipe the back of her hand all over the wrapped sandwich then?

Also loving that you were happy to have them put back - hilarious.

The sandwich thing, I don't think YWBU. That's just bad manners, germs aside. My nephew came round this morning and wiped his nose on one of my sofa cushions. Yep, he probably had more germs on his shoes but u don't particularly want anyone's bodily fluids visible on my stuff. So so precious? I really don't think so.
But the hair at the meat counter bit, ywb a bit crazy bringing it up.

If its not germs but bad manners you're worried about, then why didn't you want the food??!

If it is the germs, then stop being RUDE and make practical suggestions like "you should really be using a tissue" & offer her one from the packet I assume you must carry everywhere...

The latest example is different - that is a HYGIENE issue, raw, unpackaged food & head/hair dirt. That isn't BU unless you did actually tell another adult 'off' rather than just make a suggestion/remind them.

You sound v rude & bossy. YABU.

LOL at the loose kiwi. Do you know how many people sneezed and coughed over the loose kiwi display before Cyril on the till touched it with his diseased mitt?!

Do you not wash loose fruit before you eat it anyway? Shame on you.

Pointless to use antibac gel on hands with dirty matter on them. Antibac gel is NOT a cleanser, it's a disinfectant, it kills germs on hands with no dirty matter on them. So if she had snot on her hands, even a trace, then soap and water would be the only thing that would do, antibac gel literally would not make a shred of difference.

Having said that, i wouldn't have cared. Germs are good for us.

Are you telling us that the checkout people in Boots have to take a Food Hygiene certificate to scan sarnies through the till? I did not know that.

I'm disturbed too, by your rudeness, wanton wastefulness, but mostly your Lack Of Capitals.

So sorry, ma'am. Why don't you go and ring Kim and Aggie and see if they fancy a day wiping loo seats or summat
