to ask the sales assistant to wash her hands

I don't think i was tbh
It was Boots. I bought a yoghurt, wrapped sandwich (thank god!)

As I went to the counter the sales assistant was sniffing then wiped her nose with the back of her hand then picked up my items saying do you want a bag....

I actually said... I would like to put those back please and change them..and really you should have washed your hands before touching them because you've just wiped your nose with the back of your hand.

She went a bit red and washed her hands with some anti bac on the counter so I wondered if someone had mentioned something earlier

But I felt very awkward like I was being difficult..but really I'm not am I?

You've not made it clear whether she wiped snot on the back of her hand or it was more a general rubbing of her nose because it was itchy. If the former YANBU, but otherwise you seem to be a bit of a clean freak. You do realise that everybody has "germy paws"? There is not a person in the country who does not have germs on their hands (except for those who currently have their submerged in an antibacterial liquid).

The exterior of a persons nose is probably no worse than other areas of their skin, or even inside their pockets where their hands may well have been.

so back to your OP did she change the yogurt and sandwich like you demanded?

For heaven's sake she is not your child. She is a random adult. Do you walk up to people in the street whose manners you don't like to berate them too?

"no issue with germs. Issue with bad manners ...."

Sorry, I didn't realise that she was serving the Queen.

YANBU.

Not that I have a runny nose, it was itchy.

I promise I haven't contaminated your thread OP Grin

We are working on hand washing with DS at the moment, he's almost four and doesn't like the taps at school, so this subject is something that's on our minds right now, how to encourage him more.

If that is actually the way you spoke to the assistant then you were very U, rude and rather nasty. What she didn't wasn't hygienic but she didn't wipe her backside with your sandwich or lick it all over did she?
I hope you used that antibac before you handed over the payment...

If she used the back of her hand, they (the germs) wouldn't easily have come into contact with your wrapped food anyway?

However, I don't think somebody should be wiping noses with hands, whatever they are handling, but especially off-putting serving food you're intending to eat shortly.

You do sound a tiny bit like the sort of person who gets the food gobbed in in restaurants.

YABU for asking a question on AIBU when you have clearly decided YANBU.

You're also contradicting yourself saying assistant need more hygiene training, then saying its feck all to do with germs, it's about bad manners.

I bet there are more germs in your house than the sales assistant put on your sandwich and yogurt
