I don't think i was tbh
It was Boots. I bought a yoghurt, wrapped sandwich (thank god!)

As I went to the counter the sales assistant was sniffing then wiped her nose with the back of her hand then picked up my items saying do you want a bag....

I actually said... I would like to put those back please and change them..and really you should have washed your hands before touching them because you've just wiped your nose with the back of your hand.

She went a bit red and washed her hands with some anti bac on the counter so I wondered if someone had mentioned something earlier

But I felt very awkward like I was being difficult..but really I'm not am I?

YABU and uptight. Yes, it's not a pretty thing to have to look at - an assistant doing this - but it's not the end of the world and germs are everywhere.

In the future, you need to prepare your own food at home so that you know it's clean and to your standards.

But have you never ever jad 'that moment' where you are caught short without a tissue? Jeez, I've had colds where I can't even feel my nose running, let alone stop it. I really think this washer only split second option, other than walking off. Oh, or using till roll as a tissue Confused

Nothing to do with germs but manners - read before post

Of course it's to do with germs and not just manners. If she'd burped loudly would you have had the same reaction?

Yes it is bad manners

But what stands out for me more is your haughty attitude OP

Imo it's actually less pleasant than seeing someone momentarily caught without a tissue.

You come across a bit like someone 'lording it up over a lowly sales assistant'...

A bit rude of you IMHO.
disagree. i've often asked shop assistants to wash their hands. her behaviour was gross.

You do get that she can't wander around the store stealing stuff for her personal use don't you?

"works in Boots - tissues everywhere?"

I don't think she can just go and help herself to the stock. If she's got a cough does that mean she can go and open the Tixylix?

Yes it is bad manners but it doesn't really sound like yours were much better.

Would you prefer she effectively stole tissues fom her employer? She wouldn't have been allowed her bag or purse behind the counter to buy any and I would imagine the management would take a very dim view of her helping herself.
Bad hygiene yes but you were rude and arrogant.

i took replacements but binned them back at work.

For this ridiculous waste of perfectly good food alone YABU.

Fair enough, I wouldn't want snot covered hands over anything I bought but since you were already buying pre-packaged food, the sales assistant's germs weren't anywhere near it. But to take the replacement products and then throw them away is absolutely bonkers.

"can she not buy them like the rest of us???"

Yes. Then she'd have to leave her till, go to her locker, sign out as staff, walk round and buy tissues, go back and sign in as staff, go and put her purse in her locker...

Tell her manager? They will LAUGH at you. Unless they are suffering the same train of mental as you are.
