To think that TESCO should be held accountable for selling something like this?

I was shopping in Tesco tonight for a Birthday card for my brother. My DP was looking through the humour section and drew my attention to a disgusting card that was on display in the front row of the section. It read:

BEWARE

INSIDE IS A

FILTHY

LITTLE BITCH JUST

FOR YOU TO LOOK AT.

Inside is a picture of a dog. I assume that is meant to be the 'humorous' aspect of it.

Have I had a sense of humour failure? I don't find this at all funny. It gives the the creeps. That kind of language - ''filthy little bitch,'' is what I think most people would associate with hardcore pornography. The 'little,' to me, implies young, which just makes it even worse.

Who would give this as a Birthday card? And why do Tesco think this kind of thing is acceptable for a place where families shop?

Please tell me I'm not being unreasonable!

It isn't funny. It isn't funny at all. In the slightest.

Write to head office and complain. It is sexist and vile.

Truly vile, but sadly some people do actually find that sort of thing funny Sad

Xmasbaby11 · 16/03/2013 21:46

YANBU. that is vile. Complain.

HollyBerryBush · 16/03/2013 21:46

Bitch = female canine.

Don't see the problem with a pun on words.

As my dear old mum used to say, "it's not the mouth it comes out of, it's the mind it goes into"

Perhaps you should teach your children a bitch is a dog and not a whore?

YouTheCat · 16/03/2013 21:46

Was it a dirty, female canine on the inside?

I'd say that was perfectly fine if it was. If it was a picture of a provocatively posed young woman, then that would be bad.

YABU.

DrGoogleWillSeeYouNow · 16/03/2013 21:46

YANBU.

Who the actual fuck would even buy or want to receive a card like that?

Tortington · 16/03/2013 21:46

vile

YouTheCat · 16/03/2013 21:47

DrGoogle, a dog lover, I presume Confused

WorraLiberty · 16/03/2013 21:47

It's a bit pathetic.

But why does 'little' imply young to you?

RoseandVioletCreams · 16/03/2013 21:47

vile complain.

BubblegumPie · 16/03/2013 21:47

YANBU

DrGoogleWillSeeYouNow · 16/03/2013 21:48

Ok, well maybe being more of a cat person I'm completely missing the 'humour' Confused

Bunbaker · 16/03/2013 21:48

Did Frankie Boyle design it?

YouTheCat · 16/03/2013 21:49

Also a cat lover, though you'd never know it from my name. Grin

I think we spend way too much time being outraged at such small things when there are way bigger things to feel outrage about.

zwischenzug · 16/03/2013 21:50

I agree, it's inappropriate especially in a normal supermarket like Tesco. Plus it's a really obvious and unfunny joke.

AmandaPayneNeedsaHoliday · 16/03/2013 21:50

It's only a pun or a joke if you see both meanings of "filthy little bitch". And one of those meanings is vile and misogynistic. If the only association 'filthy little bitch' brought up in your head was a small muddy dog, you'd be scratching your head wondering what was funny.

It is fucking horrid. Please complain.

WorraLiberty I don't know. The word, to me, just has connotations of being young, and I've heard/read about, that phrase ''filthy little bitch'' used as a derogatory term to young women. I'm not easily offended, but I just think it such a horrible phrase.

HollyBerryBush I don't have children, but when I do, I'm hoping that 'whore' isn't going to be part of their vocabulary.

RoseandVioletCreams · 16/03/2013 21:54

No , the comparison of women to dogs doesn't sit well with me.
I think small things are quite important sometimes especially derogatory stuff like this agaisnt women or any group that is not treated equally in society.

DrGoogleWillSeeYouNow · 16/03/2013 21:55

If I got this card from anyone I'd think they were a hmmm

HollyBerryBush · 16/03/2013 21:56

That's a female to female card - I can think of a few GFs who would send and receive a card like that - if I did birthdays, I d probably send it to one or two choice mates. Ones with a sense of humour. Ditto the ones with an oiled up fireman with a six pack on the font clutching his hose Grin - oh yeah, that's probably modern art and appreciation of the male form of perfection, nowt sexually salacious in it at all

fallon8 · 16/03/2013 21:56

But opened the card!!!! Your nose must have got the better of you ,if it is that, why did you look at it.
