To think that TESCO should be held accountable for selling something like this?

I was shopping in Tesco tonight for a Birthday card for my brother. My DP was looking through the humour section and drew my attention to a disgusting card that was on display in the front row of the section. It read:

BEWARE

INSIDE IS A

FILTHY

LITTLE BITCH JUST

FOR YOU TO LOOK AT.

Inside is a picture of a dog. I assume that is meant to be the 'humorous' aspect of it.

Have I had a sense of humour failure? I don't find this at all funny. It gives the the creeps. That kind of language - ''filthy little bitch,'' is what I think most people would associate with hardcore pornography. The 'little,' to me, implies young, which just makes it even worse.

Who would give this as a Birthday card? And why do Tesco think this kind of thing is acceptable for a place where families shop?

Please tell me I'm not being unreasonable!

Blech. Write in.

Children are allowed to be immature, it is not derogatory to them to call them childish.
Are you saying a free for all on greetings cards in tescos is fine? We can joke about women being bitches? How could that be funny anyway? Like you say, context is everything so saying to a friend that our boss is a dick is not the same thing at all.

pigletmania · 17/03/2013 16:39

well something aimed at the female market, like a crude joke about the male of the species. i have seen many cards of that nature in Clinton cards, its just crude adult humour

It's pretty much hate speech really: it's not just objectifying and crude like "hottie" or whatever, it is the kind of language used in violent and degrading pornography. It isn't something I expect to see in Tesco, anyway.

Buzzardbird · 17/03/2013 20:43

Please refer to my earlier post. I have worked 20 years for a greeting card publisher...I know what I am talking about. Tesco will be unaware. They will appreciate your contact regarding offensive (and it is) material

maddy68 · 17/03/2013 20:47

Why anyone would complain about that I do not know. If you don't like it don't buy it! I think it's a bit naff but not offensive.

BegoniaBampot · 17/03/2013 21:06

Think it is very offensive, especially in a family supermarket. I'm surprised some women think it's perfectly ok and actually funny.
