To be utterly pissed off about people of short stature being used in Peter Kay's thing

Yes yes they didn't have to do it. But they probably needed the money. As the mother of a boy with dwarfism it just makes me so cross.

Peter Kay isn't funny. His sketch was dismal.

SmiteYouWithThunderbolts · 15/03/2013 21:53

I couldn't see what was funny about his sketch at all and I'm more than a little Hmm about his "wife" character too.

OhDearieDearieMe · 15/03/2013 21:53

Peter Kay is an arse of award-winning stature. And Comic Relief is shite.

CloudsAndTrees · 15/03/2013 21:54

Yanbu, and I can understand that it does make you cross, I'm just not sure I know why. Why do you feel cross about it?

coatonarack · 15/03/2013 21:54

Did you see C4 seven dwarves? It was so enlightening. What did you think about the Ricky Gervais Warwick Davies series?

coatonarack · 15/03/2013 21:56

There was a thread on here a while ago about Peter Kay being a tightarse.

Verycold · 15/03/2013 22:04

I'm cross because it's just lazy. Just going, I know, we'll put dwarves in! They're just funny! They are just normal people, there is nothing inherently funny about them.

Hated the Warwick Davies/Ricky Gervais thing, too. Exploitation is not okay just because the exploited collaborates.

OP posts:
OhDearieDearieMe · 15/03/2013 22:08

Do you think they'd agree with you that they're being 'exploited' or do you think they'd tell you that they're old enough and wise enough to make their own decisions and that it's none if your business?

coatonarack · 15/03/2013 22:10

I though you'd gone to bed, dearie

Verycold · 15/03/2013 22:12

Well I don't know. What I do know is that a person with short stature will have less options in life available to them than somebody of average height. And what I do know is that I dread the idea of my son being thought of as funny just because of being small.

OP posts:
coatonarack · 15/03/2013 22:18

Oh bless, very how old is he?

AmandaPayneNeedsaHoliday · 15/03/2013 22:20

YANBU. I commented on that too. Not funny. Whole sketch wasn't funny.

Verycold · 15/03/2013 22:24

He's six.

coatonarack · 15/03/2013 22:30

I worked in the chemisty dept of a major uni and one young lad got his Msc. He had dwarism. Keep the hope, heh?

WhatsTheBuzz · 15/03/2013 22:30

agree with dearie - for the love of god, if you don't want to risk being offended, don't watch tv. Or have conversations.

NoelHeadbands · 15/03/2013 22:34

YANBU

KobayashiMaru · 15/03/2013 22:36

I didn't see it, but was the sketch referencing their stature in anyway? Was it making a joke of it?
If not, I don't see what difference it makes what size they were?

WhatsTheBuzz · 15/03/2013 22:39

comedians
take the piss out of pretty much everyone. If you can't handle it,
steer clear. They don't care because so many people love it.

ihavenonameonhere · 15/03/2013 22:40

I understand why you are sensitive to it but what these series are doing are showing that there is no difference in personality, you still think the same, you still laugh the same and you are still just as capable.

Verycold · 15/03/2013 22:40

If it doesn't make a difference why use them? No reference was made to their size, but they were obviously used for comic effect.

And yes I do take offence because I know that there will be idiots in my son's life who will disrespect him and mock him because of his size, and things like this sketch certainly don't help.

I know very well that people of short stature gain degrees etc. Unlikely in my son's case as he also has learning difficulties.

OP posts:
Verycold · 15/03/2013 22:42

Ihavenoname, do you really think I don't know that?? It's not the point though. The point is not treating them as if they are funny simply by virtue of their size.

OP posts:
AmandaPayneNeedsaHoliday · 15/03/2013 22:43

That's the thing. I didn't mind so much with the leprechauns at the start. Setting off in Belfast. Leprechauns, Irish, they have to be small, etc. It was later on that really annoyed me. Funny just because they are short? Would you have the couch pulled by all black people to be 'funny'?

I just don't get what the joke was.

SkinnybitchWannabe · 15/03/2013 22:46

If they didn't want to do it, they wouldn't have done it.
Lighten up fgs, if that was the thing that offended you and not the poor little babies dying of Aids etc then you shouldn't watch it.

KobayashiMaru · 15/03/2013 22:46

If it makes no difference why not use them? Are small people not allowed a career in the entertainment industry?
If it wasn't mentioned at all, and it was totally irrelevant to the sketch, why assume they were there to be laughed at? Thats rather offensive in itself.

DameSaggarmakersbottomknocker · 15/03/2013 22:47

YANBU

(and Shock that he's 6!)
