Pole dancing parties for eight year olds - starting a bit young?

So, whilst trawling the internet for a suitable party venue for one of my children I was fairly surprised to see pole dancing parties listed under 'children's party venues in Manchester' on the local netmums page www.netmums.com/manchester/local/view/parties/venues/pole-dance-and-beauty-party

So, 'Caters for adults and children's parties from 8+' - pole dancing parties for eight year olds? Am I missing something??!! Or, am I being unreasonable in my assertions that this is a bit inappropriate and perhaps takes girl's make-over parties to a whole new level? Surprised to see it advertised as a children's party venue, even more surprised to it it on said website.

Over to you fellow mumsnetters...

At a red brick in the North of England x

Szeli · 14/03/2013 09:29

I found the research fascinating I must say x

seeker · 14/03/2013 09:29

Maybe pop back and do some reading?

catgirl1976 · 14/03/2013 09:31

and years of coming across sex workers

Well from what I saw on that Twitter feed, it happens a lot

Szeli · 14/03/2013 09:35

I was quite happy with my 2.1 seeker; although if I had the time to resist all these years later I'd look into it - or just crack on with the masters ha.

Cat ahahaha, lets hope for their sake it doesn't ruin their laptop screen or that's more money they're wasting x

catgirl1976 · 14/03/2013 09:39

Btw, I am not discriminating against anyones career choice

But I do think that pole dancing parties for children is a Bad Thing.

Especially when they are run by sex workers.

For me, children and sex don't go together. I think that's a fairly rational view to be honest Hmm

Szeli · 14/03/2013 09:42

And as I stated a number of times one i agree with!

it's the way people in these industries have been slagged off in the basis of opinion which doesn't sit right with me, that's all.

catgirl1976 · 14/03/2013 10:05

I haven't seen that

I have seen that woman in particular being called for presenting her set up as non-sexual whilst clearly being a sex worker and I have seen people "slagging off" the sex industry, but not the individuals involved

Szeli · 14/03/2013 10:10

Maybe I'm getting people's posts wrong, if I am then I apologise. Discrimination in all it's forms leaves a nasty taste in my mouth and having been off work for nearly three weeks now (hurry up foetus) I'm going crackers from the lack of discussion; perhaps I found an argument that wasn't there.

Lets all go hug a stripper, double check they dont feel exploited, but leave the kids with a babysitter whilst we do. Sorted x

catgirl1976 · 14/03/2013 10:15

When is the baby due :) ?

Szeli · 14/03/2013 10:23

Saturday. I stupidly finished work at just over 37 weeks convinced he was going to put in an appearance early. He wasn't. The beggar x

catgirl1976 · 14/03/2013 10:25

I did that too :) I was convinced he would be two weeks early

Little pest was 8 days late Grin

Hope he comes soon. Is he your first?

Szeli · 14/03/2013 10:34

Aye; they say boys are lazy. Feel we're hijacking this now with talk of squishy babies... Ah well; he'll be doing pole with his godfather when he's old enough (and if he wants to) as a precursor to ariel work. That way he won't have to run away to join the circus, he can join the circus and be home in time for tea x

nailak · 14/03/2013 11:05

I think people are misunderstanding me, I did not say the others are ok so pole dancing is ok too.

I am just exploring the general sexualisation within society.

Greythorne · 14/03/2013 12:34

Nailak

My children will not learn pole fitness or belly dancing.

SPBInDisguise · 14/03/2013 13:37

nailak, why did your mums force you to do dancing? Or do you just mean they made you go back to it when you got bored and could't be bothered (which I can understand!)

GreenEggsAndNichts · 14/03/2013 13:58

meh, my best friend back home was a dancer for a year or so, it wasn't very nice (sorry for those who think it's empowering or whatever. She didn't hate it but she was surrounded by drug addicts and a lot of pressure for other things) but it was good money and she accepted the tradeoff for that time period.

But 8 year olds? That's just lovely. So the girls can work the poles and you can give the boys Monopoly money and they can shove fake bills down the girls pants. They'll all have an important life lesson and a grand old time.

It's the picture of the one in pink fishnets that I deplore.

catgirl1976 · 14/03/2013 17:45

I think the lolita ones a bit further down are worse but it's a close call

MechanicalTheatre · 14/03/2013 18:02

I actually feel sick, wish I hadn't clicked the link.

What the actual fuck is wrong with people?

nailak · 14/03/2013 22:44
