I've been reading the recent bra threads and love it when people are shocked to discover they are actually a 32F and not a 40A.

So, if you have recently had a bra intervention by Sorrel, SC and others, can you answer the following please:

What size were you wearing?
Who fitted you? (Name and shame please)
What size are you now?

Brastop are good too Grinalthough I've just bought some lovely debenhams ones

Miggsie · 28/02/2013 10:27

I am 32 and 40 - have not found a comfortable bra since finishing breastfeeding - 7 years ago!!!!!

Used to be able to fit 32c deep plunge by Marie Jo or Rigby and Peller always - now can't find anything. Last shop I went to didn't even have any deep plunges - are my boobs unfashionable?
I have a manky old Triumph 32DD now and I hate it - but it's hte only thing that doesn't make me look deformed. It isn't comfortable. Last bra shop I tried on 16 bras - not a single one fitted. I could just cry.

Please help !!!!!!!

sparklekitty · 28/02/2013 10:28

I'm currently loving breastfeeding, one of the main reasons being I have moved to a normal 32D and I can actually get lovely bras as apposed to my pre pregnancy 28DD (try finding on of those in a shop!!!)

I am slightly dreading when I stop although I'm sure the boobs will be a totally different size/shape after a year or so of bfing

Trazzletoes · 28/02/2013 10:29

Ok, I'm 35.5 and 40...

Surely someone from M&S lingerie should be sitting up and taking notice now? They're losing sales all over the place!

You'd think, but there's been well over a dozen, if not up to 30 or 40 threads like this over the last couple of years on MN, including one that did have someone on it who contact M&S and if I remember rightly got a pretty crap response.

They've got someone new in to over see design in the lingerie department in the last 6 months or so. I sadly think she's useless - her CV boast a couple of the other worst offenders for sizing (been at VS and Knickerbox if I remember correctly) and she was on some tv show, showing off new styles and half the models were clearly wearing the wrong size!

The mere fact they think its a design issue rather than a sizing issue speaks volumes to me. But then maybe they are happy with a core market of the over 80s and they are more resistant to changing the size of bra they wear than the under 80s...

EMUZ · 28/02/2013 10:33

Miggsie try a 32FF or 32G (if they don't do FF)

EMUZ · 28/02/2013 10:34

And a lovely plunge one is Bravissimo Satine but comes up a little big in back and small in cup

EMUZ · 28/02/2013 10:36

Trazzle try a 36D, 34DD

God, I've never had a bra fit me properly, no matter how I've tried to measure it.
I lived in 34B when i was younger and slimmer - and then decided to let M&S measure me - they came up with 36AA (absolutely SHIT fit!)

Now I'm older and much fatter/heavier - so have just done the measurements as suggested and have 36" under boobs, 46" hanging to the lowest point. Would I be right in thinking that your suggestion would be 36G for that?

BUT am bf'ing at the moment. Last bra I bought was 3m ago, measured by Bras'n'Things (Aussie company) as 38DD - I tried a 38E but the cup was starting to wrinkle. I can't wear the bloody thing though, because it's a t-shirt bra - fucking foam-cup that doesn't expand as my boobs do, with the milk - and is therefore bloody uncomfortable. PLUS folding that foam shaped cup under my boob is not easy or comfortable!
(Actually, I say it's a 38DD - I think that's right, it's actually measured in dress sizes here, so it's a 16DD.)

StatisticallyChallenged · 28/02/2013 10:38

Miggsie try a 32,ff

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 28/02/2013 10:38

Well then they deserve all they get then! Talk about arrogant. I fail to see what age has got to do with size, as well.

Unless it's harder to make the over 80s lean forward at 90 degrees and scoop? :)

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 28/02/2013 10:38

Sorry, should have proof read. I fail to see what it's got to do with AGE.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 28/02/2013 10:39

Oh ffs, just ignore me. One of THOSE days.

Birnamwood · 28/02/2013 10:40

Ok, tape measure is AWOL but with a bit of ribbon and a tape measure I'm 38 chest and 45 boobs...

Trazzletoes · 28/02/2013 10:40

Thanks!

diddl · 28/02/2013 10:40

Well, I've just tried on an 80D(!!) which seemed pretty near the mark, but I didn´t really like it so didn´t bother too much checking the fit.

There were some bras for sale with instructions on how to measure yourself.

Said to measure underneath & that's the band size, & then corresponding to band size were measurements for cup size.

Think I was just on the measurement for D.

BinarySolo · 28/02/2013 10:42

Thanks sorrel. I think I shy away from 36 due to being a chubster and not wanting the bra to give me the dreaded back boobies!

I do have bras in different sizes that seem to for quite well, so I'm guessing there's a bit of difference between brands?

HazleNutt · 28/02/2013 10:42

I remember someone sent a link to a similar thread to M&S and got a response in the lines of "All our bra fitters are highly trained and we know what' we're doing."

Miggsie · 28/02/2013 10:43

Thanks ladies - I've never been offered any more than a DD and that was just after breastfeeding - no wonder I look like a sack of shit tied up in the middle

I'm off to a bra site!

RedToothBrush · 28/02/2013 10:43

There is one retailer that does seem to get missed off these threads a lot is damaris.co.uk/ who do Damaris and Mini Holiday - their range is 28AA to GG up to 40AA - 40GG.

They are on the expensive side but if you look around you can get cheaper deals (Its generally about £50 for a bra at full price - which is comparable with R&P prices. Figleaves ebay shop isn't bad as it does up to 40% off RRP on some lines but that still works out more expensive that a lot of other brands at £20 - 30 after discount).

They do a lot of very nice stuff; not really day to day stuff. But if you want something 'special' it is worth a look as an alternative to Bravissimo, Brastop and Debenhams.

CambridgeBlue · 28/02/2013 10:43

Blimey, GG! Clearly I have some bra trying on/shopping to do - thanks very much ladies :)

HazleNutt · 28/02/2013 10:44

diddl as 32/39 you would really need about 32F, which is 70F in european sizes. Try, I bet it fits better than the 80D.

Chislemum · 28/02/2013 10:46

29 1/2 under bust and then 33 bust (or maybe a bit less for both) .... lost a lot of weight after having had DS in August. Had to stop BF after 8 weeks and everything shrunk and shrunk .... (sniff)

HazleNutt · 28/02/2013 10:46

And if we have any other ladies here bying bras in metric system countires - the advice that "your underbust measurement in cm is your bra size" is WRONG. It gives you exactly the same result as the "add 4 inces" measuring advice.
