I've been reading the recent bra threads and love it when people are shocked to discover they are actually a 32F and not a 40A.

So, if you have recently had a bra intervention by Sorrel, SC and others, can you answer the following please:

What size were you wearing?
Who fitted you? (Name and shame please)
What size are you now?

Oh yes, what's the trick to stop straps slipping? Mine drive me mad!

SorrelForbes · 27/02/2013 22:04

bedlegs Try a 32F. I'm amazed you managed to fit in to a 32D Shock. Have you got quadaboob?

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/02/2013 22:04

Murderofgoths - it's almost always a smaller back size!

bubbles1231 · 27/02/2013 22:05

I was told by M&S that I was a 36B. It was quite obvious that the bra didn't fit, but I was told that my body heat would help the fit (I kid you not).
There was a lovely independant lingerie shop near us (sadly now closed) where the ladies just looked at your size and shape and sort of knew what you were. I'm a 34D. And the bras, though expensive, have lasted far longer.

MurderOfGoths · 27/02/2013 22:08

Starting to wonder if stores tell us we're the smaller sizes because they don't stock the larger ones?

SorrelForbes · 27/02/2013 22:08

There's quite a good independent near me (Devon/Cornwall border) but she still tends to measure quite loosely in the back. She brings me 32 bands to try and then shakes her head, takes them all away and comes back with 30s!

Another fairly local shop (Tavistock) insists that adding 4/5" works! Bonkers.

SorrelForbes · 27/02/2013 22:10

MurderOfGoths I think you've hit the nail on the head. Much cheaper for them to stock a range of 20+ bras in sizes 32-38A-DD than 26B - 42L. The problem is, is that I only know one person in RL smaller than a DD cup and that's my 14 yr old size 8 niece and she's a 28D!

BestIsWest · 27/02/2013 22:10

I haven't read the whole thread so apologies if I'm asking something that's been asked before please point me back up the thread.

What if you have one significantly bigger than the other?

I'm 38,47 and usually wear a 38G or a 40F but my left breast is at least two to three sizes bigger than the right one and I'm getting double boob one side and loose material the other. Do I need to go up a cup size again?

SorrelForbes · 27/02/2013 22:13

BestIsWest You need to fit the larger boob first and then adjust the straps cunningly! marriednotdead is an expert on this and talks about it here

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/02/2013 22:14

Bestiswest, some advice below from MarriedNotDead on how to address this. If it is particularly noticeable then you may need to pad the smaller breast slightly, but a lot of asymmetry can be hidden without it:

"A few words about differing cup sizes and how to manage them

You do not necessarily have to pad the smaller cup to balance the bra out. I'm about a cup and a half different and never use fillets. The trick is to choose styles that can disguise it. The hardest style tends to be balconettes IME.

To balance the smaller side, hoick the smaller breast towards the top and centre of the cup, as if trying to pull it towards a pendant on your necklace. In many cases, the material at the bottom of the cup will gather/pucker allowing the breast to sit on it, thus filling the top of the cup like the fuller side. The empty part of the cup is now at the bottom and so will not show once you are dressed.

Cleo Juna and many half cup styles are often good for such disguise. They're also great for loss of volume post weight loss/breastfeeding.

Tshirt styles that work include Freya Deco (it gapes but lays flat once clothed) and the Panache Porcelain.

Fuller cup styles are good, particularly Panache Andorra and Melody full cup, and the Fantasie side support styles such as Elodie.

Nearly every woman I fit has an obvious size difference but in 5 years, I can count on one hand how many times I've needed to suggest adding a filler of any kind.!

openerofjars · 27/02/2013 22:14

I probably missed this, but is there anywhere on the high street that does okay nursing bras in smaller back sizes?

hatgirl · 27/02/2013 22:15

i was wearing a 34B but tried a 34F following advice. It fits much much better but today I developed skin tears/blisters under my arms from the underwire rubbing after a busy day at work :( not sure if that is because it is a cheap underwired bra that I bought just to see if it fit or if I've measured wrongly and I should be wearing something slightly different. Either way it is ouchy and I have had to resort to my dead comfy 34B sports bra again today.

AnyFucker · 27/02/2013 22:18

what are your actual measurements, hatgirl ?

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/02/2013 22:20

hatgirl that doesn't sound great. It could be cheap bra syndrome, but it also sounds like it's a bit too high under your arm. Try a few different styles and have a look at the post I put on around 4 o clock today describing a good bra and see how it compares. The cup size is always a guide so you may just need a tweak.

ErrorError · 27/02/2013 22:21

I thought I was a B for years, eventually got fitted at Debenhams and was told I was a D, so bought a shedload of D cup bras, and then realised at home that there was plenty of stuffing room in the D's (more fool me for not trying them on!), so concluded on my own that I was a C!

I've lost weight recently and sadly a lot seems to have dropped off my chest so I'm stuck wearing a really unflattering sports bra which makes me look like I have a uni-boob sort of shelf! Even though it is the most comfortable thing ever!

TheDoctrineOfSciAndNatureClub · 27/02/2013 22:21

Body heat, bubbles? Are you hot enough to soften metal Shock?

If so, you should see your doctor Wink.

hatgirl · 27/02/2013 22:23

33 under 41 over from memory from a few nights ago when I measured and then asked on the bra thread

the advice was for anything between a 32F to a 34FF. The only one I could find at ASDA was a 34F so tried that. In every other way apart from the the rubbing it fits perfectly.

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/02/2013 22:24

How did I miss the Body Heat comment?! That's hilarious!!!

BestIsWest · 27/02/2013 22:25

Thank you, I'll try a couple of those tricks out with my current bras and see how I get on.

hatgirl · 27/02/2013 22:25

wondered if it was like breaking in a new pair of shoes.....

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 27/02/2013 22:25

Warm enough to soften the metal?

Goodness, I'm surprised the rate of spontaneous human combustion isn't higher.

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/02/2013 22:26

I think you might need to try the 32. The rubbing is quite often a symptom of the bra being able to move too much. I would try getting to somewhere like Debenhams where there are a good range of sizes and brands to experiment with.

AnyFucker · 27/02/2013 22:26

hatgirl, I would keep trying with different styles (and maybe a higher price bracket ? sorry...)

Try a 32FF that doesn't cut high under the arms. It takes a lot of experimenting, I am finding Smile

RayofSun · 27/02/2013 22:27

So after 11 months of bf, I figured this week that I needed a new bra and lo and behold you fabulous ladies have read my mind.

Could you please enlighten me with my magic number, I am 31.5 underneath and 39 when bending over! Many thanks

hatgirl · 27/02/2013 22:28

TheDoctrineOfSciAndNatureClub my DP uses my feet instead of an electric blanket. I have 'heating' issues -grew up in a freezing farmhouse and toast anywhere remotely centrally heated. Maybe I am just a total hottie :D
