I've been reading the recent bra threads and love it when people are shocked to discover they are actually a 32F and not a 40A.

So, if you have recently had a bra intervention by Sorrel, SC and others, can you answer the following please:

What size were you wearing?
Who fitted you? (Name and shame please)
What size are you now?

No wonder MurderofGoths - the cup is far too small so the wire is sitting on soft, tender breast tissue. You are between back sizes, and most people in between prefer to go down so I would suggest you start with a 34H, also try a 34GG, and 36GG/36G

goonyagoodthing, many women need to go down in the back below what their measurements suggest, I linked to a blog about an hour ago which explains why (have closed the link now lol!). Your measurements alone suggest 36GG, but I would suggest trying a 34H/HH to start with.

MurderOfGoths · 27/02/2013 21:27

Seriously?! Shall give it a go, where on earth stocks those sizes?

CelticPromise · 27/02/2013 21:27

There is an impressively terrible bra on One Born Every Minute tonight. I'm seeing them everywhere!

Murder I'd start with 34H.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 27/02/2013 21:27

Why yes I do! Thank you!

UniS · 27/02/2013 21:28

now your talking about wired bras... ouch. I've never liked them and don't buy them.
Does wired/ non make any difference in sizing?

SorrelForbes · 27/02/2013 21:29

permaquandry

A 28 or 30 band is currently too small for you because you're not trying them on with a big enough cup. If you're currently wearing a 32 D then you're going to need at least a DD or E cup in a smaller band.

CelticPromise · 27/02/2013 21:30

UniS if you have big boobs it's very hard to get enough support without wires. A well fitting wired bra doesn't hurt.

pol2012 · 27/02/2013 21:31

I need a bra intervention please. Have been struggling to find a comfortable good fitting bra. I bought one last week that caused 2 puncture marks on my chest where the bones sat.

I measured and am 42 inch under bust and 51 inch around the biggest part. What would you reccomend I wear?

goonyagoodthing · 27/02/2013 21:31

Rubber I can pull it quite a bit away. Maybe I am just buying bad bras.

34H! Holy Shit I don't even know where I'll get a bra that size. Thanks very much for this info it will save a lot of discomfort and back ache for some of us.

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/02/2013 21:31

unis the reason most people hate wired bras is because they haven't worn one which fits properly. Bad bras are less painful if they're softcups!

murder try Bravissimo, Debenhams, John Lewis on the high street, or if being brave and ordering online check out Figleaves, Leia, MyCurvesAndMe,Brastop,Amazon....

RubberBullets · 27/02/2013 21:32

UniS I've always avoided wired bras due to them being uncomfortable. I have decided that when I finish bf I will try them again but make sure I have the right size. At the moment I'm stuck in nursing bras

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/02/2013 21:33

pol2012 on raw measurements, a 42G. However, it's quite common for slightly larger ladies to have to go down in the back below their measurements, so have a read of the post titled "how to recognize a good bra" and this blog post as you may need a smaller back than that, and therefore a bigger cup

RubberBullets · 27/02/2013 21:34

Goony that proves the back is too big, you should only be able to get 2 fingers in there :) You need to get the back right before you can get the cup right

BertieBotts · 27/02/2013 21:34

I remember obsessing over the inch-adding method which I read in a teenage magazine when I was about 14. I just couldn't work out the logic of it, because my boobs were far less than 4 inches bigger than my actual chest, so I ended up a negative bra size! Used to really bug me and I ended up making it up as I went along.

It was only when someone told me years later that when you go down a back size you always go up a cup size that I started to wonder if it was wrong.

I don't have a tape measure, though. Woe :(

BertieBotts · 27/02/2013 21:35

And I barely ever wear a bra, but I do like how my boobs look in one.

pol2012 · 27/02/2013 21:36

Thank you StatisticallyChallenged. I will try some on on my next day off.

StatisticallyChallenged · 27/02/2013 21:39

What size are you wearing (sometimes!) BertieBotts? pop it on and compare it to the "Recognizing a GOOD BRA" post at 16:11. Even without a tape we can probably point you in the right direction

AnyFucker · 27/02/2013 21:40

Answering the OP of this long thread...

me

I was a saggy, sloppy 34B for the last 30 years (apart from pg and bf, of course)

I am actually a 32D. I always thought of myself as flat chested and having boobs best kept invisible. Have lost a little weight since xmas, and suspect I was heading for a DD, but a few pounds off means back to a D.

What a difference a D cup makes ! I am in proportion and like my boobs again (at least when they are encased in a well fitting bra...)

The bra ladies deserve massive praise and thank you's Smile

lilibet · 27/02/2013 21:44

I need a tape measure, but I am considering using string and a ruler.

Aren't you all super brill?

goonyagoodthing · 27/02/2013 21:44

Thanks for giving up your day and night to educate us saggy boobed women. The streets will be awash with new perky boobs taking eyes out.

LadyLech · 27/02/2013 21:46

I'm another one!

I was wearing a 36C. Had been fitted in M&S mostly.

Went to Bravissimo (back in the days when I had to travel up to London to go there) and they measured me as a 30F.

Instantly, I got my waist back and everyone thought I had lost weight.

This was over 10 years ago now, so I've put a lot weight on since then. I'm now a 32G/GG.

codswallopandchips · 27/02/2013 21:47

Oh dear... what would you kind bra ladies suggest about this:

38" round body
49" boobage
wearing 36GG

I have't really been fitted lately - just grabbed a bunch of enormous bras in Debenhams and tried them on until there was one that held the girls without making me look like a wench from a carry-on film.

thanks for the advice!

SorrelForbes · 27/02/2013 21:48

Many of you will find that your cup size continues to increase if you really commit to regular (multiple times a day) scooping.

SorrelForbes · 27/02/2013 21:50

codswallopandchips try a 38H or a 36HH. You're not actually off. Have a read of some of the info upthread about sizing down in the back if you're a bit squishy of build. I'm a size 12 but can squish down when I measure and wear a 30.

mumzy · 27/02/2013 21:51

Hi My measurements 30 and 36. measured for my first bra by M&S 30 years ago as 34A and apart from pregnancy and BF have always bought same size bra. Would welcome advice on what you ladies think my actual bra size is
