I am considering purchasing this:

www.thewhitecompany.com/the-little-white-company/new-arrivals/british-sports-bed-linen/

or this:

www.lauraashley.com/bedlinen/football-applique-bedset/invt/3553424/

(D)H says "Noone in their right mind would spend that on children's bedding".

AIBU - mumsnet jury do I need to look for cheaper?!

I'm quite keen on the seriously heavy 1000 count personally but its a very acquired taste one of my kids also likes it but the others all have 600

ironhorse · 22/02/2013 22:01

£40 doesnt seem expensive for that, i would buy either or, you wont regret it. TWC bedding is worth it, we have some sheets and two duvets from them and they are worth every penny, just thinking about them amkes me want to go liein bed just to roll about in them :)

smugmumofboys · 22/02/2013 22:11

I don't think it's too bad. I have bought a TWC set for DS2 and it's as good as new. Also, some polycotton sets from Next aren't much less.

I bought a TWC pure linen set for my bed a couple of years ago. It was in the sale but was still eyewateringly dear. DH was Shock Shock when I told him how much it cost. I told him to STFU as I'd bought it with my hard-earned cash. I have to say that sleeping in that set gives me inordinate amounts of pleasure. The more it's washed, the softer it gets.

I had to get 4 duvet covers when my boys first got bunk beds and was a bit broke. So I went on ebay and got them all sorts of super space duvets etc for a fraction of new price. Huge range.

I might however spend £40 on a duvet cover for myself :-)

pigletmania · 23/02/2013 14:16

Forever because they ruin it and would not treat it how we treat ours, its even expensive for an adult one I would not pay tat price.

IfNotNowThenWhen · 23/02/2013 14:21

One day, sock, one day.

I must be getting old. I fantasise about good quality lines and storage space.

IfNotNowThenWhen · 23/02/2013 14:22

linens not lines!
That was when I was young!Grin

ifancyashandy · 23/02/2013 14:27

For those of you who think £40 is expensive for adult bed linen, where do you buy yours? I'd love to be able to buy 100% cotton / decent thread count at a reasonable price. TIA!

ladymariner · 23/02/2013 14:31

Don't know if somebody else has already posted this, but Laura Ashley have got a 25% off event on now if that helps.

www.duvetandpillowwarehouse.co.uk/product/Bed%20Linen/Range/Supreme-1000TC/Type/Duvet-Cover/Size/King/Colour/Cream/Depth/30-cm

With the discount they have( they tend to have a new code most months) you can get high thread counts quite affordably.and they last for years, my mother still has a set from the chap before he was an online company many moons ago.

They also have a large 600 TC range that's so much better and long lasting than you can get in most places,I get loads of bedding there as well as a couple of wholesale places.

And I'm with you on the linen thing its my one extravagance.

melika · 23/02/2013 14:39

YANBU, It probably would wash lovely and hardly need ironing. Go for it.

Bogeyface · 23/02/2013 15:17

Inspired by this thread I went to TKMaxx earlier and for £45 I got 8 pillow cases, double fitted sheet and duvet set (cover and 2 pillow cases) in white cotton, 300 count.

Pretty happy with that!

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/02/2013 17:26

I can only tell you what happened to us, our shite company sheets went threadbare in under 3 years. They literally went to rags.

The shite company say any defects after 6 months are normal wear and tear. The sheets were 300 tc, £70 down the drain.

I buy bedding in tk Maxx now.

If you go on their facebook page it's one complaint after another and poor customer service.

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 23/02/2013 17:31

I have never bought WC bed linen - I do have a lovely throw on the bed from there though. Its fine.

TK Maxx are brilliant for bedding. Glad you found some good stuff bogey

IneedAsockamnesty · 23/02/2013 18:28

Fluffy that's exactly why I won't buy bedding there.

Its badly made tat that people perceive as good quality solely due to the corporate image and who the target customer is. It gives an illusion of quality where there is really none.

Bogeyface · 23/02/2013 19:15

Good point Sock

I think too that the price implies quality. If its expensive then it can only be bought by those with money and they wont buy tat will they? So therefore it must be good quality. Rather like Boden imo.
